The score is being kept in multiples of humidity divided by the square root of toe jam, less troll hair, on the Dark Side of the Moon on Wednesday's every other Leap Year. All sung to the tune of ABBA's greatest hits. Who has an abacus calculator ???
You, of course, meant an ABBA-cus, correct? By the way, Q wants to know what you did with the porcelain astrolabe.

Yeees I've been broken hearted
blue since the day we parted
why why, did I ever let you go?
Mama Mia now I really know
Why why, I could never let you go.

Name an ABBA song, and I probably know it. And not because I have the Mama Mia soundrack! Feel better now?

Only if I can hitch a ride with Rhonda. Its not a short drive for me (approx 4 hours, depending on what part of SA you want to meet at!)

Just how fast do you drive?

Has anyone missed me? Leave it to Rhonda to get me back in the game!

Of course we've missed you!

By the way, Morgan isn't feeling too well, so if you have a little :pixie:, pass it along to her please!

Eye Dr. went well, all things considered. We're watching for signs of a detached retina that may or may not happen. I've got some of the warning signs, but everything's stable so far and odds are that it will work out all right. [sighs again] I refuse to say "What next?" because if I do, I'll find out what's next. Can that quoted part count as my question?

Glad to hear that you're "stable". And, since it was your own question, we'll let the quoted part count. ;)

Ken glad it went well. I think (but am not sure) that the rule against quotes is if you quote someone on the thread. Not a "quote" that you type yourself. However Rhonda will likely let us know.

That would be correct.

Oh my! I need to come up with a question...hmmm... if I type a bunch of mumbo jumbo and put a question mark after the words do you think anyone would notice it's not really a question?

Yes.

dc sdcfso sdkisdfjnsido wsefiwej weifjwepcn ghwe seiwefwe fwe?

:nono:

Are repeat questions allowed to be asked?

Well, people do it all the time, but I don't like to encourage it...

1. Rhonda says an emphatic no. (Can you tell I tried?)

2. Usually, you don't know until it's too late.

3. Of course we're keeping score. It's just that the scores are on a 'need to know' basis only. Frankie will understand. If someone ever wins, it wll be the end of JQ as we know it. Do you really want to be the cause of that? Do you?

Thanks for filling in for me. You did an excellent job. :high5:

Carol, I know you are getting excited about your trip! (and your birthday)

When and where you guys decide to meet next, just let me know. Amy would probably let me drive to Gatlinbug by myself. :D

Pogo, where you and Patti thinking of WDW in April 09? That is about the time we are thinking about takking DGS Gage down for his first trip, but it will probably be later that year maybe fall...

Ellen, When do you think NYC will meet this summer? I might be able to swing it, if I can save enough between now and then.....(just talking to myself again)

Have a great day all....

Hi everyone! How's everyone's mornings going? Mine's going pretty well.

I once saw a Moose spray -- It was a Bull and lets just say -- GROSS!

Goodness. Do you mean Di wanted me to put a moose in my purse! Talk about your oversize handbag. Perhaps a smaller soloution?

What - you don't carry one of them huge handbags? The kind that you can fit your kitchen sink into? And hey - if you can't get the moose to spray your attacker you could always then swing your handbag at the person and knock him into next week with said moose in your handbag!

Di, I haven't been able to look at a mechanical pencil all day without giggling.

BTW, the soup is okay and not terribly salty at all. It's just that I've been on almost no salt so the initial taste was a shock. It's good... really. Want to try?

I'm really glad I was able to put a smile on your face. Hopefully that manager will see the humor in it and hire me!

I'll try your soup! Anything's better then the little Lean Cuisine meal I brought for today's lunch!

Okay - from another stock "buyer" - birds? Skin?? Bones??? Gunk???? (should that even be capitalized?) You guys really don't make it sound very appetizing -- easy, yes -- edible? Not so much.... The bay leaves sound good, though...

I couldn't have said it better myself! :D

Just had to share..I received my travel documents today!!!!! Can I go now?

Only if all your homework is done and you cleaned your plate. :D

Did I mention it did look a little like one of my :spy: identities ???

The score is being kept in multiples of humidity divided by the square root of toe jam, less troll hair, on the Dark Side of the Moon on Wednesday's every other Leap Year. All sung to the tune of ABBA's greatest hits. Who has an abacus calculator ???

If it looked like one of your spy identities, then do you think whomever is selling it is one of your spy foes who is trying to blow your cover?

And I thought there was something about belly button lint in the way the score was being kept? Did you overlook that or has the scoring process been changed?

Screen cleaner, please!!! :funny: So - who can even sing one of ABBA's greatest hits???

Um, I couldn't even TELL you what one of their greatest hits was, let alone sing it... are you guys REALLY that much older than me?

You, of course, meant an ABBA-cus, correct? By the way, Q wants to know what you did with the porcelain astrolabe.

Um, what else would you do with a porcelain astrolabe then give it to the porcelain god...

Why do toasters have a setting that burns your toast to a horrible crisp, that no human in his right mind would eat?

Didn't you know.. this is the setting you ONLY use when you have houseguests that have overstayed their welcome. It coincides with the 'cold water only' setting on your water heater...

When and where you guys decide to meet next, just let me know. Amy would probably let me drive to Gatlinbug by myself.

Anyone else willing to come to Gatlinburg? Dh and I could leave at like 3 in the morning on a Saturday (in May probably) and get there in time for breakfast.. we'd stay that night and come home on Sunday...

How come the time is going so slow?

Hmmm.. maybe Pogo or Alex poured some molasses on it?

Mine's going great so far, but then I haven't gone to work yet!!!:D I've got bills paid and laundry done. Now I'm heading to the studio to work on Quinn's quilt.

I cleaned my plate, homeworks done, but the sewing isn't...can I still go now?

Ahhhhhh, now I know what to do if the MIL comes to visit when we move. Can I do it the first morning?

That does sound like something those two would do!!!

The only problem is that the sewing is things I need to get done, like Quinn's quilt(I just have the binding left), pj bottoms to wear at WDW, and a belly dance outfit I need to wear the Thursday night before I leave. I'm trying to get an arranged sick day off next week.

the MIL comment...:rotfl: Gilles would say the same thing about his mother!!!

Hey Everyone! Just a quick zoop before I head off again....

Natalie -- you described gunk very well...and it is something I prefer to be in control of (the same reason I don't like hot dogs if you get my drift....)

I could probably do most of the ABBA hits -- My parents LOVED ABBA, the Bee Gees, Neil Diamond, ELO -- I know 'em all. :sing: Super Trooper, Lights are going to find me, but I don't feel blue....Like I always do...'cause somewhere in the crowd there's you! :sing: .. I actually considered naming Euan "Caroline" if he had been a girl after Neil Diamond's song "Sweet Caroline" Gotta love the 70's!

Di -- Do they play Country Music in Gatlinburg?

Carol -- You can't even start packing until you finish your sewing...do you hear me???

:pixie: for Morgan and a big Hey Howdy Hey to everyone else! Peace to you all! Live long and prosper! :mickey:

Di -- Do they play Country Music in Gatlinburg?

Some places do, some don't. There's places that play "old timey" music, places that play Gospel, places that play your current pop music.. just depends where you go! There's even a show that is a tribute to Elvis there! Do I need to try harder to sell Gatlinburg as a meeting place? Hmmmm.... "Hey one and all! Come on down to Gatlinburg, a place of beauty! A place of nature! A place where if you decide your friend has gone beyond annoying you can always push him over a mountain top! Yes, Gatlinburg... a place for everyone!" How's that? :D

Busy, busy day... went into the office for a training course and arrived to find the firetrucks there and a huge crowd outside our building (there was a fire on the 8th floor that the sprinklers took care of but whenever the sprinklers activate the elevators shut down... so there I was outside until NY's finest gave the  and reset all the alarms). Training course went well and I'm home again, thank you very much. I even brought back cookies for you all.

Here's a link (http://online.wsj.com/article/SB119500037195592058.html) to a Wall Street Journal I was interviewed for, earlier this week (or was it late last week?). This isn't the NY Times article though... that's coming out on Sunday (I don't know if I'm more worried about the article or the photo).

Anyway, I have interviews of my own to do today, so I'll catch you all later tonight! Enjoy the cookies!

Um, I couldn't even TELL you what one of their greatest hits was, let alone sing it... are you guys REALLY that much older than me?

Must be... that, and I also grew up w/ a brother who was 8 years older than me, so my musical experiences consisted of ABBA, Captain & Tenille, the Carpenters, Helen Reddy... and thank God, Billy Joel eventually!! I think that saved me... (I confess to liking ABBA, though, and I have to listen to the Carpenter's Christmas Album every year... that girl could sing...)

Natalie -- you described gunk very well...and it is something I prefer to be in control of (the same reason I don't like hot dogs if you get my drift....)

I'll be up working... need to get some stuff out in draft TONIGHT. Help!!!

Oooh...exciting morning....the ONE day you actually physically go into work and this happens. Is the 8th floor part of your company? What floor did you go to?
I went to our conference center on 23. We actually have the whole building (37 floors) except for one and two (well, we have the lobby, of course) and one other floor that used to be the offices of Giuliani & Partners (yes, that Giuliani) and now is rented out. My office (soon to be ex-office as I'm in the process of setting up a formal Flexible Work Arrangment) is on 7. Oh, and Nat, I didn't wear Crocs today. Nothing fancy though... only Dansko closed clogs. And I put on make-up (and wasn't even seeing you-know-who ).

Wow! What an exciting start to your day! Anytime you get to see your city's FINEST is a good day! :D (did any of them have their shirts off like they do in the calenders? :D)

Great article! Can't wait to see the NY Times one! Will you be able to link that one too?

and I did like hot dogs...

Well... I had a chili cheese coney for lunch yesterday and even with all the 'gunk' in it .. it still tasted pretty darn good!

You're getting pretty good.... Can it be a place to take your co-workers for a "retreat" and do the same thing?????

Oooohhh... THAT's a good idea! I'll add that to my campaign! Think of all the corporate business I could drum up! Wanna join my campaign team?

Had to be Alex....... I haven't been around in a while.

Actually I think you've been around a bit more than Alex has been... hmmm.. did you perhaps pour molasses on him in an effort to keep him from the boards?

Lean Cuisine meals are a banquet compared to my Jenny Craig ones. They're really good... just small portions.

WOW! If those Jenny Craig ones are smaller than the Lean Cuisine ones I have I gotta wonder how those on the JC diet stay alive! Too me those Lean Cuisine meals are tiny! I usually add a salad or something to them just to feel full.

I got another day off to get it all done, my arranged sick day!!!

16 more days!!!! I'll ooh and aah for everyone too!! I promise I'll take a picture of the castle for you to see or as Gilles would say, I'll take a dozen pictures of the castle, from every angle, think "Alice's Restaurant"

So, did you tell your company you would have the flu that day? A cold? Strep throat? What sickness did you arrange to arrive on that exact day?

Those 16 days will fly by for you and your trip will be here before you know it! You are planning to ride Stitch's ride for me and tell him I said hello - right?

What's all the ABBA talk ??? Who knew you guys were familiar with the Altuna Boys Banjo Aces band ???

OH! Is that the ABBA they were talking about? Well.... I do know them! Didn't they have a #1 hit in 1977? I think it was called "Banjo Mia" or something like that.

Mapquest says Gatlinburg is 13 1/2 hours away from me.

And your point is? :D That's still less than a day's drive... and it's MUCH closer than NY or Canada!

Well, seeing as this is the first free moment I've had to check in, I thinnk you get the idea. It was a madhouse when I arrived - every bed full, folks in the waiting room w/o a bed for them. We often have 5 or 6 - maybe even 7 deliveries from 3-11pm... we had 15!!
It's better now, but still busy.

So, how many deliveries occured in the waiting room? Glad you survived the night! Sounds like it was a crazy one!

I'll be happy to make the 40 minute drive for a pancake meet.

The Smoky Mountain Festival of Lights is awfully pretty. It's like Osborne Lights light.

I've been to see the Lights 3 different times and they are beautiful! But I was thinking maybe we could do this in May? That would give my dh and I some time to put some money aside.. plus that's when the bears come out! This past May when we went we saw several mama bears with their cubs - was AWESOME! Also in May the Park Vista offers $49 rooms. And they have an AWESOME indoor pool! Who else is on board for this? Ken? Think your RV could make the trip to the Smokies? Scott? You and your family could come to me and dh's house the night before and you could travel with us if you'd like?

All little Sisters are pests. Why would she be any different ?

And yet another good reason to drive the 14 plus hours to Gatlinburg !

MY little sister is NOT a pest! In fact, she's one of my best friends!

Um, the ONLY reason you need to focus on in deciding to make the 14 plus hour trip to Gatlinburg is that it would be to meet several of you JQ friends! The Smokies may not have Niagara Falls, but they do have some really beautiful ones of their own!

Zooping (I can't believe I just used that word) in to say hi.

Spent the entire day yesterday in 3 airports (Newark, Toronto, Cleveland) before landing in O'Hare at 11:00 PM. Ah, the joys of travel.

What's all this about pouring molasses? ;)

Hi Alex! Glad to see you aren't covered in and stuck in a molasses trap! Did you have any Gold Star Chili while you were in Cleveland? Glad you made it home finally and safely!

Howdy!

Been reading for a little while lately. I had to see what happened at the Falls meet and check out those great photos. Hopefully next time I can make the meet.

Can anyone join this gathering?

Yup. All you need are questions and cookies. Welcome.

Hello all! After two weeks of family in town, soccer games, birthday parties, etc, etc, etc, I think I am about to slow down a bit.
Welcome back. We've missed you.

Actually I think you've been around a bit more than Alex has been... hmmm.. did you perhaps pour molasses on him in an effort to keep him from the boards? :shake: Not me. I like Alex....... er.... sort of !:D

MY little sister is NOT a pest! In fact, she's one of my best friends!
But.... is she a pain in the neck like my virtual Little Sister is ? :D

The reason the Falls were picked was for the central location for everyone that said they wanted to come.

The reason the Falls were picked was for the central location for everyone that said they wanted to come.

Are you saying I give you headaches ? Not me.... I'd never do that to you. :fingers: :D

Nope, my little sister is NOT a pain in the neck at all! She's funny, she's bright, she's great to be around! If you would come to Gatlinburg in the Spring I'm sure you would get to meet her and judge for yourself! And I BET you would want to adopt her as a little sister!

I know....all you upper state people are able to get together like that... but I know of MANY of us lower staters that wanted to meet all of you also and Niagara Falls wasn't quite a central location for us...

Actually I considered the Falls as a place for DH and I to go to celebrate our 15 year anniversary next November... BUT... the cold, the fact that the Maid doesn't run and now our finanaces will keep us from doing that. I do want to go there someday and when I do I hope some of you can meet me there for a meal!

No, re-read what I wrote.. no where did I say you give ME headaches.. I said you might give the NEW people headaches! :D

Yes you may ! Did you bring cookies ? :D

Sorry, me bad but I don't like cookie. I know I know who in this world doesn't like cookies.

Oh..... we also forgot to tell you that you have to host a "new comer" party at your house on the second Saturday that you are a member. You furnish all the drinks and food and we come trash your house. ;)

Still want to join ? :D

Sure, but it's my parents house, I can always just sent you outside with all those duck hunters.

Well... I had a chili cheese coney for lunch yesterday and even with all the 'gunk' in it .. it still tasted pretty darn good!

THAT's a good one Ken! Have you ever thought about being a job counselor? You could help people prepare for job interviews and such! How about "Hey! What shoes will you be wearing for the stomping? We need to be sure we are talking about the right thing here.

Wow! What an exciting start to your day! Anytime you get to see your city's FINEST is a good day! :D (did any of them have their shirts off like they do in the calenders?
It was way too cold out. I actually felt bad for those who had snuck out for a smoke and then ended up stranded out in the cold with no jackets.

We're ready for the weekend! It's Ben's 12 birthday on Saturday. I can't believe how fast he's growing up (I've been very emotional this week... lots of November memories: good and bad).

Oh no... I wouldn't wanna be a stomper in a southern Cracker Barrel.. those ones in the south are big enough to stomp me! Nope, I'll stick to the ones in this area.. much smaller, less messy and unlikely to be able to carry me away.

Yep! I like Dilbert! And you are right.. that sounds like something Dogbert would instruct someone to say!

I believe the proper stomping shoes would be something thick and heavy, and easy to clean. Wouldn't you agree?

Sultana cake is raisin cake -- really easy.

8 oz (1 cup or 1/2 lb) of unsalted butter
1 cup white sugar
4 eggs, added one at a time
1 c flour
1 c self-raising flour
1 cup of Sultana raisins

Anybody seen my car ??? While on a :spy: mission in Moscow I stopped for a bite and look what happened !!!

Thieves steal $777,000 car as owner dines.

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Thieves have stolen a Maybach luxury limousine worth 530,000 euro ($777,000) while the car's owner had dinner in a Moscow restaurant, Russian media reported Wednesday.

Thieves bundled the owner's chauffeur into the back seat and threatened to kill him, the Kommersant newspaper reported. The driver was later abandoned outside Moscow's ring road.

Police said they suspected the car was stolen to order by a special gang for sale in Kazakhstan or Ukraine.

The Maybach has been adopted as the ultimate status symbol by Russia's super-rich. There are only a few dozen in Russia and this was the first case of one being stolen, the daily said.

Luckily, none... but we did have one lady have her baby 6 minutes after she got off the elevator. A little too close for comfort, if you ask me!!Actually that is a little longer than I was at the hospital when I had Euan. 10 minutes between leaving home and holding him. :whew:

:hi: Christine! I hope you enjoyed your time with your family!

:hi: Alex -- happy layovering!

Hey Carol -- we're nearly out of dog chow....and need to know how to get some more!

Di -- self raising flour has baking soda and baking powder already blended in (and I just checked the bag for proportions, but there weren't any) -- you couldn't do a straight exchange, but I imagine you could do 2 cups of flour and then 1 tsp of each soda and powder......

and.... HAPPY BIRTHDAY BEN! :darth: :yoda: May the force be with you!! Ellen are you getting them from a fancy cupcake shop? My BinL got 2 dozen for my sister's 40th birthday in September and it cost $125! He just about croaked! They were really good, however..... You gotta let me know about the movie. I really really really love Dustin Hoffman

How about some lasagna? I've got a slow cooker going right now, should be done around 3pm. Now that's the way to come into the thread, with lasagna. Aloha Mary!

Anybody seen my car ??? While on a :spy: mission in Moscow I stopped for a bite and look what happened !!!

Thieves steal $777,000 car as owner dines.
I couldn't even get half that for it. You can buy it back for $500k, comrade.

My parents made me go to a Neil Diamond concert. Is that abuse? Abuse is the record $150 million divorce settlement he had to pay in 1969. Adjusted for inflation, that would be $839,766,036 today. Feel better?

Howdy!

Been reading for a little while lately. I had to see what happened at the Falls meet and check out those great photos. Hopefully next time I can make the meet.

Can anyone join this gathering?

:hi: Mary! Welcome to the wacky world of Just Questions!

Hey! I see a weekend coming! Everyone ready for it?!

Absolutely! Can we start it now? I'm primarily ready for it because it begins the 10 days that I'll be off work! :yay:

And your point is? :D That's still less than a day's drive... and it's MUCH closer than NY or Canada!

Very, very true. And, it's even closer than where I'll be driving for Thanksgiving.

You can make lasagna in a crockpot? Is it in layers? You really do need to post that one over in the recipes thread in the Water Cooler.

Hope everyone has a good Friday!

Is it finally Friday?

So last night was parent-teacher conferences at daughter's high school. Terrible report, just terrible. Her LOWEST average in a class is 97%. All her teachers love her and wish they had 40 more like her. Even teachers she doesn't have like her and want her in their class. Yep, terrible report. ;)

Coffee's on and hot for anyone who needs. Got some hot chocolate for those of us so inclined also.

Have a great day gang! Miss you guys.

Mama Cook-Off is where you choose a recipe and prepare all the ingredients (and the bonus is that you get to look like a moron in the process!)
You use the Wii-mote to chop, slice, stir, etc. and have a certain time to do it in. The "host" is some freaky anime girl and the whole thing is terribly stressful to me. It's just WRONG that I can't even cook in the virtual world!

William loved it so if you have a recipe to share that would be lovely.

Here's your recipe, Natalie

Puppy Chow

2 c. semi-sweet chocolate chips
1c. peanut butter
1/2 c. margarine(I use butter, I hate margarine)
1 (17 oz or 350 g)box of Crispix(The last boxes I bought it's now called Crispex Krispies)
4 c. icing(powdered) sugar

Melt chocolate chips, peanut butter and margarine until smooth. Stir often. Combine cereal and chocolate mixture in large bowl until cereal is well coated with the chocolate. Sprinkle icing sugar over cereal mix; stir until well coated.(I usually do a small amount at a time, or I take a large tupperware container with a lid, put all the icing sugar in and shake it..this way is a lot quicker)

Since the US Thanksgiving will be here on Thursday and things are really going to be hectic for me that day, I want to wish all of you a Happy Thanksgiving. I also wanted to add, that since I met a few of you, I'm really thankful that I got a pleasure of meeting you and calling you my friends. I'm really glad I have come across this thread. Ok everyone - let's put those smiles on our faces and perk up - it's FINALLY FRIDAY! The weekend is here!

Well.. I did not get the job at the bookstore - I failed the personality test  Just don't make sense as I've been in customer service jobs since the day I turned 16! The manager said the same and he did tell me he would be making a fuss to the corporate office to try to get it overturned.. but my thoughts are - they won't overturn it cause if they do it for one they'll have to do it for others... so back to the applying/interviewing board for me...

Good catch, Ellen. I am currently sitting in O'Hare waiting to get back to Newark. Can anybody say D-E-L-A-Y?

Did you make it home yet? Or are you camped out on a bench in O'Hare?

Anybody seen my car ??? While on a :spy: mission in Moscow I stopped for a bite and look what happened !!!

Hmmm.. I just bought one of those yesterday for only $500 from a man in a black trench coat on a street corner. He said it was the hottest car in the European market... think I misunderstood what he meant by hottest? :D

Sorry, Di, I don't like SGE, but if I see him I'll say hello for you!!!

:faint: You don't like SGE???? Well.. just make sure you give him a great big hug from me also - ok?

and woke up with a raging toothache!! I have no idea where it came from, but it took 800mg Motrin and 1000 mg Tylenol to get it better - and I can still sort-of feel it!!
Hey now!! My DH took me as a gift for Mother's Day years & years ago -- and I really wanted to go!! Poor guy... I'm not sure he's gotten over it yet!! (Another side effect of growing up with a brother 8 yrs older... I still love Barry...)

Hope your toothache goes away quickly. :pixie:

My mom LOVES Barry also...we tease her about it too. When she and my sister went out to CA to visit my uncle he took them on a tour and they passed Barry's house. My mom wanted to stop and take pictures so she and my sis went up to his gate. She ended up breaking off a branch of a tree that started on his property but overhung out onto the public area. She and my sis ran to my uncle's car yelling at him to pull away as quickly as possible...

You really don't mean that, do you? (Di just might faint if she reads that.)

Too late! (see above response to Carol)

I think I need one of those birthday cupcakes to help me recover!

Di -- self raising flour has baking soda and baking powder already blended in (and I just checked the bag for proportions, but there weren't any) -- you couldn't do a straight exchange, but I imagine you could do 2 cups of flour and then 1 tsp of each soda and powder......

Ok, now you are making this seemingly easy recipe complicated... maybe one of our local bakeries has a cake I can buy.

Very, very true. And, it's even closer than where I'll be driving for Thanksgiving.

I hope you have a safe trip to whereever you are going!

:yay: Yeah Lauren! I TOLD you that you had one VERY SPECIAL young lady for a daughter! Brains, talent, beauty, polite, sweet, yep.. she definitly takes after her mother! :D (hey buddy - I said it just to make sure I beat Pogo and Alex to it!)

I brought snow balls this morning! Flurries are all around!

The ONLY snow balls I want to see are the marshmallow ones - you know - the 'cookie' where you have a giant marshmallow puff sitting on a chocolate cookie base and usually covered with coconut! So if that is not the snow ball you are referring to then you can just take your snow balls back home with you! :D

Where are you driving to??? We're off to Buffalo for the holiday -- but only after I work Wed night into Thursday morning. Yawn...
But -- I can't complain, really... double time and a half for 12 hours, go home & sleep while DH packs the car, kids and animals... get up, get chauffered to my holiday dinner... arrive, eat and go back to bed. And all I've got to do is make a couple pies the day before... not too bad, eh? :D

Sorry to hear that, Di... they're missing out!! Good luck on your hunt...

Well, the toothache is mostly gone this morning... still a little sore, but hopefully it'll just quit and go away for good.

I posted this over in the WC, but I just had to share - today, we got to have breakfast over at Julia's school to honor kids that had received an Outstanding Citizenship award... and Julia was one of them! We were so thrilled when the letter came home - as you guys know, this is her first year at this school, and we were nervous how she'd adjust - so this is such good news for us! We are so proud of her and how she's doing... it was definitely a day brightener!! (Even though I had to have real clothes on, and not my robe and jammies... :ack:)

So, now I'm home and all dressed... so I guess I'll have to go run some errands!!

Have a great Friday, everyone!! :snowball:

I don't really like shopping for myself especially at Christmas time - I HATE the crowds and such.. so another GREAT and AWESOME idea, but it just won't fit for me.

I called our local temp service this AM and they have me marked to call for any weekend jobs that come in...

You are welcome... I re-read it also and had to stop myself from laughing out loud several times.... (still at work, that would be a dead give away that I'm playing on the net! Dontcha think?)

I agree - Christine should become a Personal Shopper! She'd make a fortune!

Hmmm.. Alex, Pogo, Ken, Jenn and others seem to be missing...funny you should mention a black hole.. on Lilo and Stich this AM the 'cousin' that was released was one that became a black hole... maybe that cousin has made his way from Hawaii and is now making his way across the USA and Canada?

I'm here sort of. I'm printing and distributing the village newsletter (that's having written it all in the first place). Actually the most difficult thing is getting info out of folks but I've had past experience at that sort of thing so hopefully the villagers like the changes I have been making since I took over. Do you think all that editorial power has gone to my head?

I can't come up with any ideas for a weekend job half as good as those already suggested. Hmm, could you become a member of the clergy? Any crafts you could make and sell? I take it writing a best selling novel is a little too long term for you? Title: Everything I need to know in life I learned from JQ :D

Why yes, I did just have a nice long break in October. Somehow, my vacation always tends to settle into the last few months of the year. I've got a few more days off at Christmas as well.

As far as the trip, we're going to Colorado to see 2 of my sisters. First, we'll be heading to the south west corner of the state (near Durango), and after a couple of days there, we'll head over to the south east corner of the state, but we'll just stay a couple of hours there. We're not leaving until Tuesday after Robert gets off work, so I've got a few more days here.

So, what's up this weekend?

I know my car is in that cave !!! Who wants to go on a road trip to bring it back ???

Russia sect holes up in cave to await end of world
MOSCOW (Reuters) - At least 30 members of a Russian doomsday cult have barricaded themselves in a remote cave to await the end of the world and are threatening to commit suicide if police intervene, officials and media said on Thursday.

"They have covered the entrance and refuse to come out and are threatening to blow themselves up," an official in the local prosecutor's office told Reuters by telephone. "They threaten to detonate a gas tank and blow themselves up."

The cult members, who include 29 adults and four children, are hidden inside a snow-covered hillside in the Penza region of central Russia. A Penza police spokeswoman said they had moved into the dug-out on November 7.

"No one wants to take on the responsibility of provoking them ... because our information is that there are children among them," said the official.

They are thought to have taken food and fuel supplies in with them and Russian television pictures from the scene showed smoke or steam coming out of a hole in the snow-covered ravine where it was built.

A police patrol was guarding the area to prevent anyone provoking them.

Media reports said the cult members believed the world would end sometime in May next year. Police expected them to emerge when their supplies ran out.

After decades of state-enforced atheism under Soviet rule, many Russians and other ex-Soviet nationals have come under the influence of home-grown and foreign sects.

Many Russians have refused new passports and taxpayers' personal identification numbers, saying the figures contained "satanic" combinations of numbers.

Izvestia newspaper said the leader of the cult, Pyotr Kuznetsov, had been detained by police. It said he was a 43-year-old who had been diagnosed with schizophrenia and that in the last few months he had been sleeping in a coffin.

Police took Kuznetsov to the cave to persuade his followers to come out but without success, said the newspaper.

What, no recalls?

Yes, I did get the cupcakes at a little bakery called The Little Cupcake. They're in the neighborhood and Ben likes it there (I took him once before). I ordered 30 of them and they were just over $50. It would have been cheaper to make them myself, but it was a very busy week. I'm hoping he doesn't want a cake tomorrow. Maybe I can convince him to have another cupcake... a la CRT and Chef Mickey's. Or I'll just take him to Outback for dinner. I'm hoping to keep extra sweets out of the house from now until our cruise next February.

I'm pretty tired today but pushed myself to get the cupcakes, get them over to school. I went to BestBuy in the morning to buy him his gifts and forgot to use the coupons I had received in the mail. I went back later and got back $15, so the trip was worth it.

I may just skip going to my mom's on Sunday and go on Friday instead (I have off from work).

Carol, thanks for the Thanksgiving wishes. That was so sweet of you! I really hope to meet you and Gilles in the Spring.

Christine, Ben liked Cooking Mama. Does Olivia like it? Have fun with winter soccer! Do they play indoors? (or did you say that already?)

Frankie, good luck finding your car! The guy sleeps in a coffin???

Did anyone notice how quiet its been without Ken, Pogo and Alex? I really miss them.:( Do you think they'll come back here soon and give us a hard time?
Are you trying to say that you can't live with or without your men? :D

Ok, I am back. Who's turn is it for me to give a hard time to? :D

You can pick on me, because in 14 days I'll be gone for a week!!

I decided not to make the new bellydance outfit, since I'll be at WDW for the last class, so now I'm ready to start packing!!!

I take it writing a best selling novel is a little too long term for you? Title: Everything I need to know in life I learned from JQ :D
Now, that's a good idea!! I may just have to tuck that title away, for future reference...

So, what's up this weekend?
Not too much here... just ballet for the girls and E's got a b'day party to go to... some errands and I'm off to work for 3 nights. :( Hoping I feel better before I go in...

I forgot to mention earlier that I am finally involved in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. One of my co-workers gave me a copy of it on tape, so I'm listening to it in my spare time. I listened to three chapters at work today.

Yeah!! Are you enjoying it?? I just finished a great 3-part series by Nora Roberts, and I'm so sad it's over... I really enjoyed the characters. Now to find something new again...

Alex, I'm glad you're back... it's not been the same without you! :D Now, to just get the rest of the guys around more...

Well crew, I'm off to bed... I'm still not feeling too great, and I'm tired. I hope you are all having a good Friday night... we watched "Ratatouille" with the girls (Dan hadn't seen it, so I bought it for a surprise for everyone... :) ... I really like it....) and now it's time for sleep. I'll catch up with you all tomorrow...

Hello all...

What a lightweight I am. We went to dinner tonight and I noticed it was Happy Hour ($2 :marg:). I finished the whole thing, and my face went numb! :faint: What a wimp! 20 years ago I wouldn't have blinked an eye at that!

Yep, Ellen, winter soccer (LOVE that term when it's 80 degrees here still!) is indoor. We have two games tomorrow.

Di, the Wii actually has a training mode where it will make you work hard enough to do an actual work out! The boxing will kick your tail! :whew:

Are we SARCASTICALLY liking Neil Diamond? I hope not...I secretly love him, Barry Manilow, and most of all- the Bee Gees! :secret:

Hey, I've been lurking and keeping up, but had a lot going on today. DD1 had her 'lady surgery' today and came through fine. Her DH has been with her at the hospital and they're coming home tomorrow. My step-father had cataract surgery on one eye yesterday and my mother tells me he's doing very well also. (Gives me a good preview of what I've got coming in the spring.)

I've been working on a kind of spooky short story this evening that I plan to submit to the NC Bar Journal's '08-09 fiction competition. I'm about halfway through it. The one that took third place for '07-08 should come out about December or January. I hope people will be able to see it on the state bar web site as well as in the magazine.

First, we'll be heading to the south west corner of the state (near Durango), and after a couple of days there, we'll head over to the south east corner of the state, but we'll just stay a couple of hours there.Durango is a kind of fruity beer here in these parts.... I hope you have a fabulous holiday!

What was the best thing BEFORE sliced bread?I have asked this question in the past...and I did not get any appropriate answers...

Now, that's a good idea!! I may just have to tuck that title away, for future reference... :thumbsup:I have often tossed around the idea of writing something....I used to write when I was at University, but I got out of it. When would I have time to read if I spent my free time writing? I have never read Nora Roberts, but my MiL likes her and Maeve Binchley (sp?).

Are we SARCASTICALLY liking Neil Diamond? I hope not...I secretly love him, Barry Manilow, and most of all- the Bee Gees! :secret:Nope...no sarcasm here. I LOVE all three, and can Copa Cabana with the best of 'em. My parents took me to see each of them when I was a kid. I distinctly remember going to see the Bee Gees when I was in Grade 2 on a Tuesday night -- and being exhausted the next day at school.

I'll be having the lens removed and a new artificial one put in. Step-dad had the same. They can shape the lens to fit your prescription now so you won't necessarily need glasses for that eye.

Listen, when we do plays, I can't even have anybody go near my eyes to put makeup on--they tear up something awful. Good thing I have long lashes anyway.. I got a sliver of steel stuck in one eye years ago when I was a park ranger and it was all I could do to hold it open for the Dr. to remove the sliver.

:sing: They long to be....Close to you! :sing:
This one predates the Carpenters by quite a bit. Why say no, it's the end of the world? It ended when you said good bye. 60s song but I can't remember who sang it.

:pixie: for all your peeps, Ken! I hope they are all right as rain soon! How does one get her hands on your short fiction?
Thanks for the pixie dust. DW called the hospital and talked to DD1 this morning and she's doing very well. She should be back home this evening. I think we'll be taking over some bean soup. My mother days my step-father was still a little loopy from the anesthetic when he got home and gave her a few laughs.

I'll have to see if I can get permission (since they now own the copyright) to put the story on the net, or see if the magazine can be read on the net, or get some reprints to send to whoever wants them.

So, that's a very philosophical question you posted there, Frankie! Without the sea (or a lake), would there be a shore?

I haven't had much time - but tried to check in a few times! I have next week off (Yay!!), so I can't wait!

Crazy and exhausting week - and I'm glad its over! My Step-dad is doing OK - thanks for all the well wishes - and hoping the next doctors appointment is as positive.

Snow? Did someone say Snow?? Send some here!! All we get is the liquid version! Course 4 inches would shut down our city in no time. :D If it was still around the next day, they would probably declare a state of emergency! :D Now, rain?? We know how to handle. Yup -- we've got about 4 inches! But it's not going to last, much to the girl's dismay... it's supposed to be 50 degrees out by Tuesday. Of course, being Upstate NY, it'll be 30 again by Saturday... :freeze:

Blythe, you need to move to the right side of the lake...no snow up here!!!
Don't get me wrong - I do enjoy the snow - it makes it seem very Christmas-like around here!! It was so beautiful out early this morning... where we live is surrounded by hills and the main road in and out is called "Gorge Road", for good reason... it's carved right into the hills, so when the trees are filled with snow, it's amazing!!

That being said - I'm just not ready for the cold yet. :(

So - since you have all next week off... does that mean you'll be around here more? Not that I've been around that much...
Umbrellas? Hmmm... maybe 4... plus a golf umbrella, so I guess 5. Snow coats?? Lets see... family of 4... I think we've got about 16. Don't even ASK about mittens, hats and boots... :winter:

So - I'm here at work... lovin' life... wishing I was home, snug in my cozy bed. I feel pretty much like :ill: hit by a :bus: ... but I'm trying to tough it out. Not the wisest choice... I'll just sleep extra tomorrow!

So the question of the night is....How do you put eye drops in the eyes of a cat???

Zoey has an eye infection, and we are supposed to put drops in twice a day....Yah right! We've tried everything. We've wrapped her in a towel, had six hands holding her, and no such luck. Maybe it would be easier to give her oral meds???

Hi! Are the eye drops an antibiotic? If so, maybe they could prescribe the ointment... it's much easier. Both our cats needed antibiotics after the little guy came home... Calvin (the older, big guy) was easier, as we'd just trap him up against our legs, put a strip of it on our finger and quickly wipe it in the corner of his eye. Quincy?? Not so easy... but probably easier than drops. I'd pick him up, put him on the counter and hold him against me w/ my left hand. (My right hand would already have a strip of ointment on one finger) Then, I'd hold one eye open w/ my left hand while I quickly wiped the ointment in w/ my right. Wasn't too bad - although he quickly associated the counters w/ the ointment treatment, and has never jumped up there on his own since!! So - not such a bad outcome, either!! Good luck....

Hey - have you ever read this one about giving a cat a pill??? It's hilarious!!

It's raining here today but we got all our village newsletters delivered yesterday before the rain started. I also had a tennis match yesterday - a veterans! Makes me feel old until I realise that they count over 40 as a veteran. It did remind me why I think playing tennis outside in the winter is a bad idea - it was very cold and windy! This time of year indoor courts make for a much more pleasant game!

I don't think we will be having Turkey on Thursday but I'm sure we will raise a glass to you all. We just re-watched the wonderful West Wing episode where CJ has the Turkey's in her office and to save the life of the second Turkey gets the President to draft it into the army! :D

What is the penalty -5 minutes for high sticking? or a 5 yd. pentalty for holding?

If you printed the picture of pictures, then you would have a picture of a picture of pictures!!!

What a great article! Oh Ken, just in case you were not sure, and despite Figaro's absence, that one IS a picture of Ellen. ;)

Why don't you email round your short story to a group of JQ volunteers? I am sure they would tear it apart, whoops, give constructive criticism or even praise where praise was due. On second thoughts you may want to pick your volunteers with care! :thedolls:

Good morning all....... we are still very sick today and it is the first time Patti and I have skipped going to church on Sunday since we have been together. And yes Ellen, I've washed my hands and used an anti bacterial cream before I typed this so as not to spread the germs.

I hope you all have a wonderful day.

Shh. We try not to call Pogo old more than once or twice a week.

Almost forgot a question... um, how about that? And you call me old ? I never forget a question !:D

Jym! A man after my own heart :D Do you have any idea how hard I had to control myself not to make a crack like that?
Oh Dutchess..... please don't hold back. I can handle it..... I was trained by the best ! Right Alex ? :D

You need to ask Pogo, the wise old possom. Oops, I think we reached his quota for being called old for the week!!!

I do! Every year I say I'm going to order one, but have yet to do so... with just the two of us, it seems silly to have more animals on the platter than people around the table. ;)

Snow? Did someone say Snow?? Send some here!! All we get is the liquid version! Course 4 inches would shut down our city in no time. :D If it was still around the next day, they would probably declare a state of emergency! :D Now, rain?? We know how to handle. We are the umbrella and windshield wiper Capital!! (or we should be). How many umbrellas do you own?
So it was a good week at work? Glad to hear it wasn't as exhausting as the previous week.

If you're tiring of the rain, send some down to Atlanta. They sure could use it. I have quite a few umbrellas and Thursday morning I discovered the reason why my purse seemed so heavy. A black umbrella was playing stowaway in the bottom of my black purse. Why is it that black purses turn into black holes?

I really do work at a great firm. (Who knew that accountants could be cool?) Like anywhere else, there are always some sour apples, but on the whole, we have a great corporate culture. :D And lucky me, I get to work in the HR department with the folks who capture the sentiments and turn them into real programs (like our AccessAbilties group).

As for Ben, :faint: Oh, and he thanks everyone for the birthday greetings!

Okay... imagine Howard Cosell narrating this: "And the JQ pasta battle is on. In one corner, there's ravioli in Brooklyn. Plain cheese in marinara teams up with spinach in cheese pesto sauce. And in the other corner, hailing from the great North, there's pad thai in tandem with peanuts and sprouts. Who will win the rumble in the wheat fields?"

Bethany,
Thank you so much for posting this. I was wondering how I could get my hands on the article.

Ellen,
You are an inspiration to so many. Thank you. You are indeed a hero.

Blythe,
I'm sure Kenny Chesney's song enterred my mind as I posted that. I just think what he says in that song is so true. I was feeling sappy and sentimental, realizing my oldest is turning 21 and is a mother herself now.

I know what you mean about when they turn 21. Mine isn't a mother yet, but watching her go from a tomboy to a young woman is a difficult job. Watching her growing older is hard. Mine is 22 now and completely on her own.

Why is it when you get older it seems like you have less time to do things?

And yes, I'd love a glass of wine... too bad I'd also get fired!! :( Can I save it for Tuesday night?? (I've got to come back here tomorrow, too... )

Your kitties must be so much fun to watch... there's not a lot of rough & tumbling here -- just growling, hissing and terrorizing as Quincy slowly tries to drive Calvin out of his old, senile mind. Being 23 lbs, you'd think one swat would do it -- but Quincy just keeps going back for more... :boxing:

There was alot of hissing and growling the first day - obviously they did not remember they were brother and sister? :D But very quickly became buds. Although he is much bigger, they really take turns chasing each other. Its exhausting watching them!

I have a busy week lined up working three days and doing five days worth of work, with today being the easiest.

Thanksgiving dinner will be quiet here with just Patti, my brother and me ! My Mom and Dad ends up at my sisters house with about 40 to 50 people total. My son will be at his MIL and my daughter is having her in laws there. In case you are wondering, they all live about 150 miles from here. :(

We will all be together for Christmas and we are looking forward to that. :cloud9:

Blythe, it gets worse. My days got much shorter after the DD left. I'm not sure if its the empty nest needed to be filled and I found more things to do or if things just got busier. I've always worked 40 hour weeks and did crafty stuff, so I have no idea.

I had thought about getting another kitten to keep Mittens company, but I could see Mittens not being too friendly, especially if he had to share me. It took him a very long time to warm up to Gilles, and he only does that when I'm not around. I can see hissing, biting and fighting. Not a good thing!!

No fear.. I don't think Alex would ever wear one of those pointed cone shape bras - remember - he likes to play tennis.. and I could just picture the tennis ball hitting his chest and sticking on one of those cones... :D would definitly hurt his already hurting game!

I'm lucky, I guess. With the company I work for, the manager and assistant manager get 6 paid sick days a year. There's no reward if you don't take them and you lose them at the end of the year. I lose a lot because I'm seldom sick and I have trouble getting time off. I'm taking Wednesday off as a sick day, but it was hard finding someone to work my hours for me. The past few years they have also given the one of us who goes to seminar a mental health day. With the regular staff, they get nothing, but at least they aren't pentalized for it.

Screen cleaner, please!!!! That image of Alex standing there in a cone shaped bra with 2 tennis balls stuck to it. :funny::haha: Maybe those cones is where he's hiding his pink golf balls.

Did I tell anyone that it's 11 more days until I go to WDW?

Is everyone getting geared up for turducken day?
:turkey: :donald: :chicken:

Who's looking forward to Black Friday? :shop: :spend:
I can't WAIT for Thanksgiving, it's my all time favorite holiday! I talked with my dad about our menu the other day and he's going to make cornish game hen. I've never had it, has anyone? We're forgoing turkey because my sister is now a vegitarian and we don't want to waste so much of a big turkey between two of us.

I will be up early and at the mall doors on Friday! Bring it on!

Did I tell anyone that it's 11 more days until I go to WDW?

YAYAYAYAYA! The waiting game is the worst part, but the time will go by quickly!

So, how was everyone's weekend? I've been pretty busy but in a good way. My sister is here visiting and we went to a concert on Saturday. I have to work until noon on Wednesday and then I have 4 glorious days off!

Good morning all...... cough, cough, hack, hack. We are still not well but we're better than yesterday and work won't wait for us.
:pixie::pixie: Here's another dose of pixie dust for a speedy recovery!!

Good morning!

Off to a full day of errands (with the trip to the DMV being the cherry on top! .

Errands and shopping for me today, too! Gotta get some of that holiday stuff done! I'm usually almost done by Thanksgiving, and I've got a ways to go this year.

I had thought about getting another kitten to keep Mittens company, but I could see Mittens not being too friendly, especially if he had to share me. It took him a very long time to warm up to Gilles, and he only does that when I'm not around. I can see hissing, biting and fighting. Not a good thing!!
You can borrow Ziggy sometime. This cat has more energy!! But he is not always the most graceful! He gets going to fast sometimes, he can't stop when he gets to the door! :funny:

11 more days!!!:mjump::goofy::donald::tigger: Do I look excited?
I'm excited for you!!! Please, soak it all in for me!

I will be up early and at the mall doors on Friday! Bring it on!
Yep - I'm a friday shopper! Not the malls - I avoid them - but local stuff. My DH even likes to go with me! :jaw:

I'm off! Anyone have any coffee to go? It's pouring here (still) and I don't want to stop for coffee!

Thanks !

Thanks Buddy ! Are you sure you don't want my cold ? :D

The Waltons: Where are they now?

“The Waltons” premiered in the fall of 1972, and the television drama about a rural family living in the mountains of Virginia in the 1930s was such a hit that it endured until 1981. TODAY’s Lester Holt recently sat down with most of “The Waltons” cast to talk about their experiences filming the show, and to find out what the actors are doing now. Here’s an update on each member of this beloved television family.

Olivia “Livie” Walton (Mom)
Michael Learned recently wrapped up a national tour of the stage version of “On Golden Pond,” co-starring Tom Bosley of “Happy Days” fame. Learned says her husband, three sons and five grandchildren are currently keeping her busy. You might have spotted her on the small screen last year when she guest-starred in a recurring role as Mrs. Wilk on the hit show “Scrubs.”

John Walton Sr. (Dad)
Ralph Waite just finished filming “Ace Ventura 3,” a prequel, in which he plays a 12-year old Ventura’s grandfather. He also guest-starred in a recent episode of “Cold Case.” Waite says he waited all his life to play King Lear on the stage, and thought he should be in his mid-70s to do so. He’s now played the role three times. In the 1990s you might have seen Waite on the big screen in “The Bodyguard” with Kevin Costner and “Cliffhanger” with Sylvester Stallone. Waite also ran for Congress in the 1990s — he lost that bid, and says he “learned his lesson” and doesn’t plan to run for office again.

John “John Boy” Walton Jr.
Richard Thomas is currently touring the country in the Roundabout Theatre’s stage production of “Twelve Angry Men.” Caution: The following information will make you feel old — Thomas now has not only children, but grandchildren. Since leaving “The Waltons,” Thomas has made more than 40 television movies and played numerous stage roles, including Hamlet and Richard II.

Jason Walton
Jon Walmsley says music has always been his first love, an interest that was actually written into the show for his character. He now spends most of his time as a guitarist, performing live and making recordings. He was actually playing a gig the day we filmed the interview with his cast mates. His band is called The Ravers — they play British rock music from the 1960s.

Mary Ellen Walton Willard
Judy Norton spent eight years writing and directing more than 40 shows for two theater companies in Canada. Norton is now raising an 11-year-old son and recently started her own stage show called “Judy Norton and Friends.” Norton says she’s rediscovered her love of singing, and recently recorded a demo.

Ben Walton
Eric Scott left acting behind not long after “The Waltons” ended to pursue a career in business. He’s now the vice president of a messenger service in Los Angeles, and the proud father of two daughters and a son.

Erin Walton
Mary McDonough can be seen in a recurring role as Mrs. Wilhoite in “The New Adventures of Old Christine,” and in the upcoming Hallmark Channel movie “Cadillac Jacks,” which will air December 23. Through the years she’s appeared on “ER,” “Will and Grace” and “Boston Legal,” and has been a special correspondent for “Entertainment Tonight.” She’s currently working on a book about her life. McDonough struggled with complications from silicone breast implants in her 20s, and has since started a nonprofit organization called In the Know, which is dedicated to educating women about their own health.

Elizabeth Walton
Kami Cotler, the youngest of the clan, decided acting was fine as a kid, but wanted to pursue a different career as an adult. She became a teacher, and in a twist of fate, found a teaching job in Nelson County, Va. — the area in which “Waltons” creator Earl Hamner grew up, and based the series on. She’s since become a mother of two, and moved back to the Los Angeles area, where she spent the last four years running a charter elementary school.

Gosh... today was a slow day around here, eh? I was busy busy at work fielding e-mails and IMs from colleagues from all over the country, some of whom I know and others who reached out with words of encouragement and questions re: their own situation. All in all a good day except for having to go into the City for a certain yearly exam to which women over 40, are subjected (ouch).

Well, tomorrow is now today, Carol. I'll have coffee ready for everyone in the morning.

Ben's not feeling well at all (I think he caught everyone's cold and seems to have a stomach ache too). I'm assuming he's going to school tomorrow but I'll just have to wait to see how he's feeling at 7:30. He does want to go to school though. I'm going to "see Jenny" and then will be back home to work, work, work.

Emeril suggested zinfandel for Thanksgiving dinner. What do our JQ wine experts recommend?
Zinfandel is good...or Riesling....or whatever your happen to have!

A really good day off...followed by a really rough evening. DD13 is struggling in school, and we are at our wits end. Although I get very frustrated with her at times, I realize that most of it is not her fault. Her special needs go beyond just strictly hearing, and really affect the way she processes information - including homework assignments, projects and due dates, etc. I swear getting this one through school is going to kill me. We've been fighting the battle since she was one, and many times feel it is us against the world. Sorry to vent...its just been a rough evening.

On a brighter note, at least I don't have the added pressure of work this week! I got my holiday shopping under way, and its supposed to stop raining tomorrow!

Oh - and the cat learned how to open the bathroom door - so now I don't know how we will keep them from roaming around the house at night. Any suggestions?

I was sleeping... then, believe it or not, I was playing my violin!!! I played until I was 18... haven't really played since. But Julia is interested in playing, so it made me get my violin out and start trying -- and I discovered I actually can still play! (Not that I don't need a lot of practice, mind you....) I've fallen in love with the musical score to PoC : At World's End, particularly the 12th and 13th songs... so I'm trying to play them by ear, until I can find the music.

Now, I'm at work... just playing for the moment...

As far as your kitties... we had a similar problem, and we ended up propping a brick against the door so they couldn't push it open. (It's one of those "pretty" ones they paint to look like a house, etc... but I imagine anything large and heavy would work! Good luck!!)

Well, I'm off to surf the boards a little... I feel totally out of touch around here lately, as it's just been too busy to get on here much!! I hope you all have a good day today -- I'll see you later after I'm up!!

Yet another thing we have in common. A lot of my family plays the violin. My Dad, daughter, and my grandson.... and I even have one that I can play a couple of tunes on. Dad is a member of the "Old Time Fiddlers Association and he hangs out at the Fiddlers Hall of Fame all the time. He practices every day for hours.

I just read Ellen's article. Her sense of humour came through. Ellen you are a true inspiration!

It's good!

. What do our JQ wine experts recommend?.
Personally I'm fond of a lighter pinot noir (but then don't do a lot of "sweet" side with a turkey). If your doing something with more sugar try a resiling or guertzwimmer. (I'm not a huge fan of rose's to be honest unless one counts the odd spanish one with tapas type foods).

But a true zin (not the pink stuff) is always a hit in my world.

As far as your kitties... we had a similar problem, and we ended up propping a brick against the door so they couldn't push it open. (It's one of those "pretty" ones they paint to look like a house, etc... but I imagine anything large and heavy would work! Good luck!!)

The problem is, the door opens inward. So just how is he getting it open??

 It's so hard to watch our children struggle and it doesn't help that she's getting to that difficult age. It'll get better, Mom.
Promise?

:
:secret: I'm trying to get a reaction from him. He just hasn't been the same since he met most of you.
Yah, now he can put faces with those that are poking at him......(oops - probably not the best wording after thermometer was mentioned....)

I think that homework will be the end of parents. Language processing is the biggest stress for sure...for both the child and the parent. Some nights I think that I just can't face it -- but we muddle through with a ton of patience and :pixie: . I am thinking of you!

Thanks Jenn. I know you understand the struggles better than most. Its tough when you know they have overcome so much - and still struggle. I think the problem is that she speaks so well, that everyone tends to forget that she is profoundly deaf, and therefore assumes she can function at the same rate as everyone else - and assumes she is "slacking" if she doesn't. Sometimes its a not win situation.
By the way, I emailed the picture to you from the meet. Sorry it was so late - I had major camera issues!!

Today is another day off from work! Yay!! Got errands to do, and cleaning to do. :ack:
Anyone have any grand ideas for dinner tonight?

Anyone have any grand ideas for dinner tonight? Sorry to read about your struggles with the education system. No great ideas for dinner. Aside of course from the much repeated soup idea. Perhaps it should be turkey soup?

And Jenn did you know that Loblaws sells frozen turducken? Just seems weird to me frankly. (I hope you enjoy it though Jenn)

Hey! Look what I found out on the net! Did any of our JQ Diamond fans know this?

Neil Diamond reveals inspiration behind "Sweet Caroline"

LOS ANGELES — Neil Diamond held onto the secret for decades, but he has finally revealed that President Kennedy's daughter was the inspiration for his smash hit "Sweet Caroline."

"I've never discussed it with anybody before — intentionally," the 66-year-old singer-songwriter told The Associated Press on Monday during a break from recording. "I thought maybe I would tell it to Caroline when I met her someday."

He got his chance last week when he performed the song via satellite at Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg's 50th birthday party.

Diamond was a "young, broke songwriter" when a photo of the president's daughter in a news magazine caught his eye.

"It was a picture of a little girl dressed to the nines in her riding gear, next to her pony," Diamond recalled. "It was such an innocent, wonderful picture, I immediately felt there was a song in there."

Years later, holed up in a hotel in Memphis, he would write the words and music in less an hour.

"It was a No. 1 record and probably is the biggest, most important song of my career, and I have to thank her for the inspiration," he said. "I'm happy to have gotten it off my chest and to have expressed it to Caroline. I thought she might be embarrassed, but she seemed to be struck by it and really, really happy."

The enduring hit recently reappeared on the singles chart, thanks in part to the Boston Red Sox. "Sweet Caroline" is played at every home game.

"I think they consider it good luck," Diamond said, adding that the Red Sox have become his favorite baseball team.

The tune's return to the charts leaves Diamond "speechless," he said: "That song was written 40 years ago, so I am just overwhelmed by the fact that it has returned and that, more importantly, people have taken it into their hearts for so many years."

Diamond is currently at work on a new album, his second collaboration with producer Rick Rubin.

"We're both very excited about it," Diamond said. "I think it's going to be one of my best ever."

Yep! My sis and I were big fans when they first came out about ten years ago (makes me feel old!) but I've never seen them. Steven Jenkins is an amazing performer, we were way in the back bleachers and could still feel the energy! Have you ever seen them?

Does Ken know?

I know a lot of things, but by the time I got this ready to answer, I forgot what it was I'm supposd to know in this instance. I think a good answer would be "maybe".

How cool is that!! I'm hoping I can hook up with someone as I find a teacher for Julia, so I can play again and not just in my house... I'd love to be a part of something again! We'll see...

I'm trying to get a reaction from him. He just hasn't been the same since he met most of you.

That's just because we're all so sweet... :D

That's cool what you're doing w/ the Silhouette -- the page you did for the frame from Jenn is awesome!!

Who knows, with enough wine......:D
 ... and who said Alex wasn't a sweet-talker???

Who was responsible for keeping this thread disinfected? Well, you failed miserably! I feel absolutely horrible (though better than I did last night).
Jenn, I hope you're feeling better this evening!!

The problem is, the door opens inward. So just how is he getting it open??

Anyone have any grand ideas for dinner tonight?
What kind of door handles do you have?? When we had "swing" handles, our Calvin was able to open any door he wanted -- he just reached up and pulled the handle down. Crazy how they watch us and figure that stuff out.... Other than that, I have no idea how he'd do it... gotta be some of that "kitty magic" that we all love so much....

As far as dinner... if "grand" translates into "pasta again", then that's our plans....

Di I just got it out of my head and now you put it back. Does that seem fair to you?
Nope -- not at all!! Torture through suggestion, more likely!! Now it's stuck back in my head, too...

I think I mentioned that our band has been rehearsing Christmas music since August. I've been listening to TransSiberian Orchestra in the car.
:cloud9: Don't you love them??? We went to see them last year, and it was amazing... and hearing the electric violin -- now, I've got to get me one of those!!!

How's everyone's day ending today?? I was up early to go run errands and now I've got a fair amount of baking to do... I'm bringing two pumpkin chiffon pies and some cherry eggnog bread to my MIL's on Thursday.

See you all in a few hours maybe...

What about mushroom flavored ???

Enjoy A Refreshing Ham Soda

Company offers holiday beverages with bizarre flavors

Flavors include ham, Christmas tree, latkes, jelly doughnut

Past offerings have included turkey, green pea, perspiration, dirt

Coming soon next to the Coke and Pepsi in a store near you: ham-and latke-flavored soda to make your holiday feast complete.

Jones Soda's Christmas Pack flavors are Sugar Plum, Egg Nog, Christmas Tree and Christmas Ham.

It even will be kosher, the company making it says -- including the ham.

Jones Soda Co., the Seattle-based purveyor of offbeat fizzy water, is selling holiday-themed limited-edition packs of flavored sodas.

The Christmas pack will feature such flavors as Sugar Plum, Christmas Tree, Egg Nog and Christmas Ham. The Hanukkah pack will have Jelly Doughnut, Apple Sauce, Chocolate Coins and Latkes sodas.

"As always, both packs are kosher and contain zero caffeine," Jones said in a statement.

The packs will go on sale Sunday, with a portion of the proceeds to be given to charity, the company said.

Jones' products feature original label art and frequently odd flavors. Last year's seasonal pack was Thanksgiving-themed, with Green Pea, Sweet Potato, Dinner Roll, Turkey and Gravy, and Antacid sodas.

For its contract to supply soda to Qwest Field, home of the Seattle Seahawks, Jones came up with Perspiration, Dirt, Sports Cream and Natural Field Turf. The company -- fortunately or unfortunately -- prides itself on the accuracy of the taste.

Jones also makes more traditional flavors, including root beer, cherry and strawberry sodas.

I've really learned a lot today.. thanks for all the info on boxing day! Here in America I guess you could call the 26th Boxing Day also as it's the usual day that all the 'unwanted' and 'unliked' Christmas gifts get thrown back into their boxes and then stuffed into a closet to await the 'joy' of being used as a 'regift' the following year! :D

You've been doing a lot of zooping in and out lately.. do you not like us anymore? LIfe is too short for all that zooping.. you need to take more time and stop and smell the roses and talk to your friends here at JQ... we miss you when you are not around!

This is WedFriday for me. Anybody else? I'm excited about seeing the grandyounguns but not about the drive.

Nope.. this is just Wednesday for me... I have tomorrow off, but have to work on Friday. DH gets a 4 day weekend... he better not even THINK about sleeping in Friday when I get up to go to work!

Hope you have a safe trip to see the grandyoungun Ken!

Sorry Nat - no shoes on sale :( And that's a sale? We (and I have to admit only for the last few years) do beef tenderloin for Christmas (it's faster then a turkey but I'll tell you buying the one for 9 people this year was a bit $$)

OK, so educate us non-Canadians. What is Boxing Day eh??
There are also lots of boxing day sales as well. (but they don't start at 4am)

So here's my question for Thursday: sweet potatoes or mashed? Have you ever mixed them about half/half and treated them like regular mash? (ie just butter/milk/cream no sugary stuff) Very yummy!

Everybody got their huge amounts of comestibles on stock for Thursday? DW really shines on Thanksgiving--she brings out all my favorite recipes.
Like what exactly? I'm making turkey Sunday and was looking for some sides..

For those of you who can't make it to our Christmas Fair pm with your address and I'll send you one of our special Christmas Cards and our yearly newsletter with pictures of what Andrew and I have been up to. Apart from Disney there will be a spitfire, Sir Isaac newton and a canadian included :D Does that sound confusing yet? that sounds neat I may take you up on this!!

Since Mikki mentioned Christmas cards, who's got their's done?
Mine are one third done (weirdly I don't do them for family) I have over 100 to do (clients and business assoicates). It take a while to sign your name that often. (plus my signature only uses my first initial so I have to spell my first name out which I never do so I really have to pay attention or I just sign like normal)

Have you ever had one of those moments in real life when you are reminded of JQ?. Often...it's weird isn't it?

I can not WAIT for tomorrow!!!! Who's excited? My favorite part of the day is getting up early and watching the parade. All three glorious hours! Then the dog show, and then dinner!

Whoot for all the Christmas music going on, I've got my Christmas With the Rat Pack CD in right now.

Hope you all have a great day!

Good morning all.... just zooping in for a moment, as I've got to finish my baking and laundry and packing and cleaning and... okay, I really shouldn't even be on here....

So, what's everyone up to today?
See above...

This is WedFriday for me. Anybody else? I'm excited about seeing the grandyounguns but not about the drive.
Nope... I've still got to work tonight... and I agree about the drive!! I can't wait to get together with Dan's family - I just wish it was only "down the road apiece"!

So, if your pie crusts are done - then when will your PIEs themselves be done?

They'll be done later today... as they're a chiffon pumpkin pie, I don't like to do them any earlier than I have to so they don't "fall". But, I'm sleeping tomorrow and then driving 2 hrs to our dinner, so they'll have to get finished up today! :D

I wish I was seeing the parade tomorrow... I'm afraid I'll sleep through it. :( But, I'll make sure Dan has it on for the girls - they love to see the balloons, and of course, Santa at the end!! I'd love to see it in person some day...

I hope you all have a good day today - I'm sure I'll zoop in later, once some of my work gets done. I slept in a little to catch up on my sleep - now, I've got to catch up on everything else!! Bye all!

Yeah, I hope to catch some of the dog show also.. but since my nieces will be up I have this feeling it'll be non stop High School Musical playing.... (maybe I'll take up drinking tomorrow? :D)

Hope you have a great day also!

That sounds yummy! I knew cakes could fall.. but I've never heard of a pie falling... can't you outfit it with a parachute? :D

Is pie a critical component? Oh my! YES YES a hundred times YES! The most popular pie is Pumpkin.. then I would say comes Pecan, then probably a Sweet Potato Pie... but you HAVE to have some type of pie.. it's a law! ;)

Boy has this been a busy day!!!! Did the laundry, then headed out to return something I bought Sunday, I finally found some sneakers and mary jane crocs for the trip, I hemmed my jeans that I had pinned up for the meet, and so far I've finished 1 page of Quinn's pictures. I love days like this!!!! Scary thing is..I did all this with no caffeine.

Blythe, have a great time with Dan's family and have a safe trip!!!

You're right, Natalie...I'd hate to see what Alex would pack!!! I'll help you eat, Blythe!! Beats working and a members sale going on!!

Happy Thanksgiving to all my friends in the US. I have a feeling it'll be really quiet here tomorrow, since it's us Canucks that'll be working!! Enjoy your turkey dinner and that nap after the meal!!!

Everybody got their huge amounts of comestibles on stock for Thursday? DW really shines on Thanksgiving--she brings out all my favorite recipes.
She brings them out... but does she cook them? ;)

We do mashed... my mom always did both, as she loved the sweet ones, but us kids - not so much. What are you having??
The jury is still out... if it gets to be too much, it will be yams. I got fingerling yams this year... is it weird to love mini-veggies? If I still have energy once the turkey is in the oven, and the dressing is done, I'll make mashed. I'm making pumpkin pie tonight... first time I've done it by myself without the help of Sara Lee.

I believe I see his ship on the horizon... definitely full of rum, too! He's been off pirating, again... :pirate: Now for the big question - how long will the rum last around here?? :eyes: :trio: :faint:
Why is the rum always gone? Anyway, I think it will last longer now than in a few weeks when it will be put to use in the egg nog. (Egg nog has rum, right?)

This is WedFriday for me. Anybody else? I'm excited about seeing the grandyounguns but not about the drive.
It's so WedFriday today that I went to the Water Cooler to post on the TGIF thread and it wasn't there!

They'll be done later today... as they're a chiffon pumpkin pie, I don't like to do them any earlier than I have to so they don't "fall".
Recipe, please!

I was going to make salmon tonight using a recipe that Mikki sent me but Ben is in the mood for more pedestrian eats and wants :pizza:

I'll be on later tonight. Oh, and no Christmas music or decorations in our house until Santa has been sighted in the Macy's Parade! (I hope to get all my cards done over the weekend.)

See you later, everyone!

I don't know if egg nog has rum in it always, but in my house?? You betcha!! :D

I will get you the recipe, but it'll have to wait 'til Friday - is that okay? Sometimes I can remember them, but it's a little too detailed for me to come up with while I'm here. But I'll remember to bring it to my MIL's, and I'll post it from there! :)

We're the same w/ our decorations... they all come out after the turkey's gone. This year, it'll have to wait 'til Sunday after we get home... but then -- bring it on!! :tree: :ornament: :gift: :candy:

I'm trying to get unwired so I can sleep tonight. I have to go to work the morning and the way it looks right now, I'm going to be fighting snow on the way there. We have a members sale starting tomorrow and I'm afraid it'll be dead if we get this snow.

Not near as much as we are all wishing we could be there with you!! We will miss you - and expect full reports when you return.

Another rare sunny day here. Course that means only one thing - gusty bitter cold east wind. So its a trade off - but today I welcomed the sunny skies - and yes, the cold.
I got more Christmas shopping done today (and some shopping for myself!).

Sounds like a good schedule. Mine is: get up, put turkey in oven (has anyone else seen that hysterical Shady Brook Farms ad where the turkey goes flying out the kitchen window :rotfl: ), make dressing, relax and watch parade, make side dishes, eat, nap :D It's going to be a grand day!

Just wanted to say that you all are on my "people/things I'm thankful for" list. Love you all!

Okay, here's a question for Jenn (and I bet she knows the answer)... what is the pattern of the china they use at the Gardenview Room at the Grand Flo? I downsized my idea for my Christmas present for myself (no laptop for me this year as much as I want it) and decided that I want to get some nice tea cups/saucers. I already ordered my tea strainer and two cool tea pots: one glass and one LiveStrong yellow with the LS logo on it (how cool is that?).
