Can anybody offer any info about Theme Park View rooms at the Grand Floridian? What buildings these rooms may be in and what the rooms are like???

I believe the book "The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World" has a map of the best rooms to get for whatever you want.

Plus, it has tons of other info!:mickey:

Standard theme park view rooms can be found in Sago Cay, Conch Key and Boca Chica. Big Pine Key may have a few coded that way as well. If you want to see the castle, I would request a room in Sago Cay or Conch Key. Boca Chica will most likely offer a view of Space Mountain instead and any castle view will be through the trees. Big Pine Key faces towards Epcot and you'll see Spaceship Earth in the distance.

The GF is in the final stages of a renovation. All the rooms have new furniture, bedding and carpets. Most come with 2 queen beds, a day bed and full size balcony with privacy panels in between. The rooms located on the top floor are referred to as dormer rooms. They're slightly smaller, but have high cathederal ceilings. The balconies are also smaller, with a solid wood railing. This can make it difficult to see over for small children.

We had an amazing theme park view from our room in Boca Chica, a dormer room, 8507.

We could see the Castle (http://inlinethumb20.webshots.com/14931/2167000850102098585S600x600Q85.jpg), the train station (http://inlinethumb41.webshots.com/13928/2855132550102098585S600x600Q85.jpg), entry, Astro Orbiter, Space Mountain (http://inlinethumb45.webshots.com/13484/2376476400102098585S600x600Q85.jpg), the lagoon, Contemporary (http://inlinethumb23.webshots.com/14166/2767551310102098585S600x600Q85.jpg), Wilderness Lodge (http://inlinethumb27.webshots.com/12826/2199824270102098585S600x600Q85.jpg), Polynesian (http://inlinethumb49.webshots.com/14384/2182126200102098585S600x600Q85.jpg), even Spaceship Earth (and fireworks from Illuminations at night). (http://inlinethumb22.webshots.com/13525/2731920210102098585S600x600Q85.jpg). It made for a truly special experience and plenty of time relaxing on the balcony.

I have heard that Conch Key has good views, too, but when I was there years ago, our view was of Thunder Mountain and we couldn't really see the castle well. Our Boca Chica view was unobstructed and panoramic, just gorgeous.

Tammi's right that some of the views in that building may be obstructed, so keep that in mind, but I think there are more good views in Boca Chica than most people realize. We were certainly very pleasantly surprised. We didn't get a full view of fireworks over the castle from there, believe it or not- we could see about half, so we went elsewhere for fireworks viewing. But we did have a great view of the Electric Water Pageant (http://inlinethumb29.webshots.com/15580/2026565090102098585S600x600Q85.jpg) at night.

I hope you get a great view, too, and enjoy!

Since we are on the discussion of the GF, when are they expected to be done with the renovations? Does anybody have any photo's of a newly renovated room? Just curious.

To the best of my knowledge, it's nearly complete. They still have Sago Cay to work on and it should be all done within the next 6 to 8 weeks.

We had reserved an MK view in Jan '07, which is what they were called then. The first room we were given was 8513, but the MK & castle could only be seen by cranning your neck from a corner of the balcony. A tree obscured the castle. Essentially, it was a logoon view room with a corner of Tommorowland visible. We tired and stayed the first night hoping the view of Wishes would still be OK. It wasn't - we could hear the fireworks but could only see them from the reflections off the CR. So we requested a better room and got 5439 (in Sago Cay I think). It was larger, had a perfect view of the castle and two balconies. The electronics (tiny TV, coffee maker, internet, lack of DVD) were pathetic for the supposed level of hotel.

From 5439 we were able to see the water pagent and had a dead-on view of the fireworks and castle every night from our balcony. We were also parallel to the monorail, which we enjoyed, although I could see some people may not like it. It is a quiet location.
