Day 2 - October 2nd

Cast:
Ria (me!) - 26 (going on 27)
Chris - DBF, 26

This morning I woke up at 7:50, threw back the curtains and saw lots and lots of rain.....The initial plan had been to go to Typhoon Lagoon today, but after watching the weather report, the rain wasn't about to go anywhere. We decided to go to the AK instead. We showered, dressed, grabbed some ponchos and headed out the door. We had a quick breakfast at Mara and hopped on the bus. By the time we got off the bus, the rain was already starting to let up...figures.

This was Chris's first trip to the AK. He has been to WDW several times, but never went there because a bus driver once told him that the park is very open and gets unbearably hot. His first thoughts when he started to walk through the Oasis is that this place was beautiful. There was tons of shade and so many things to look at. We walked on to ITTBAB, which is always one of my favorites. Chris really enjoyed it as well. We then headed up to Harambe to grab some FPs to KS, but it said there was only a 20 minute wait, so we got into the stand-by line. We probably waited less than 2 minutes...which was great! This was by far the best time I've ever had on the Safari. I'm not sure if it was because it had just finished raining, but I think every animal (http://good-times.webshots.com/photo/2141355360099791469cMFyIQ) was out and about. We saw ankole cattle, gazelles, giraffes (http://good-times.webshots.com/photo/2994060730099791469mZWJDB), elephants (http://good-times.webshots.com/photo/2989326310099791469lMHWTp), the elusive monkey (http://good-times.webshots.com/photo/2861631890099791469gWFAfQ) (I forget the proper name), warthogs (http://good-times.webshots.com/photo/2022038490099791469rwXEbV), the cheetah (http://good-times.webshots.com/photo/2327159680099791469GEJWeO) (or maybe it was a leopard), the lioness (http://good-times.webshots.com/photo/2791119840099791469aqRyEU) and lion (http://good-times.webshots.com/photo/2215766010099791469XPpOJS), and that's just to name a few. We had a great driver who kept pointing out different animals, and I guess because things were so slow stopped several times for us to take pics. It was a great time!

We then headed over to FOW, which is another great show. I'm always amazed by the birds. We grabbed a quick lunch at Mr. Kamals-turkey sandwiches for both of us. We ate at a table right next to the railing with a great view of the Tree of Life and the river. Then we headed down to the FOTLK, which is another favorite. I guess I have a lot of those! After the show we went on Dinosaur, which I find to be way too loud, but Chris wanted to try it. Then we went on PW, which I find to be fun, but Chris wasn't feeling too well after it.

We headed back to the hotel around 2 to shower and rest. We had dinner ADRs at O'hana at 5:30, so we got on a bus to the MK at 4:30, which was only a 15 minute ride from the AKL. We got on the monorail to the Poly and were there by 5. We looked around the lobby a bit and then checked in at 5:20. We both ordered drinks while we waited...I got raspberry champagne and Chris got a champagne Mojito...I should have known that anything with champagne in it would be expensive, but I almost croaked when the drink bill was well over $30! Enough champagne for me for the trip!

We were seated by 5:30 in the main dining area. This was Chris's first time here, and he really liked the peanut sauce, potatoes, and turkey. He actually proceeded to dip everything he tried in the peanut sauce. I always enjoy the food here, but the service was iffy tonight. We never got refills on our drinks and they only came around once with the meat. We were done with dinner in less than an hour.

After dinner we headed out to the Poly bus stop and waited for a bus to the Studios. This would be our only chance to see Fantasmic, and I hoped that the weather would hold, which it did. We got seats near the back to the center left area...pretty good seats for getting there 20 minutes before show time. Chris chatted about sports with the man sitting next to us, which helped to keep him busy. :) The show was great as always, you can really feel the heat from that fire!

After the show we shopped through the stores a bit on our way out. There was a bus waiting there to go back to the AKL, and practically no line. It wasn't even full by the time we left, so everyone got seats. I caught the end of Dancing with the Stars and fell asleep a little after ten...I was exhausted! :mickey:

 No wonder you were exhausted! What a full, fun day. So glad you had a great safari! That's a great intro to the AK for the DBF.
