Monday, September 17- Day 2 of 8
The players:
me (pixiegoose)= Kara (23)
DH (The Flying Dutchman)= Tony (25)
with special guest appearances by-
Jon= Tony's older brother
Tanya= Jon's wife
Erin= Kara's friend from work
Keith= Erin's boyfriend, a Disney newbie
The day starts nice and early- we want to hit up Animal Kingdom for am extra magic hours, the first time we’ve ever done a park opening. We manage to make it to the Pop bus stop by about 7 am and we get to AK by 7:15. The only guests around are the 3 families from the Pop bus! I take advantage and get a picture with no people (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v116/gulliblegoose/100_0892.jpg ). Around 7:30, other finally start showing up. By 7:45, when they let us into the park, there’s quite the crowd. DH is the first guest through the turnstiles but he manages to momentarily break the machine, so I’m stuck outside while he’s in. That gets fixed and then we follow the crowd across the bridge to the rope. We watch the little opening show (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v116/gulliblegoose/100_0898.jpg) with Minnie, Goofy, and Pluto, with the special appearance by Mickey. After the show, we follow the crowd to Kilimanjaro Safari and are on the 2nd truck of the day. I get some great shots (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v116/gulliblegoose/100_0962.jpg) while DH videotapes.
As we’re exiting, we notice a group watching something. It turns out to be a gorilla (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v116/gulliblegoose/100_0974.jpg) and so I, of course, take more pictures. We head off to get fast passes for Expedition Everest and then head off to Dinosaur. There’s really no wait and before we know it, we’re back at EE using our FPs. I love this ride! We then decide to head to Rafiki’s Planet Watch/Conservation Station, as we’ve heard that’s where you can find Jiminy Cricket and I refuse to go home until I get a picture with him. We wait about 20 minutes for a train and then we’re off. Upon arriving, we head inside in hope of finding Jiminy. No luck, only Pochahontas and Rafiki. Disappointed and hot, we head out to the courtyard to get a Mickey ice cream. We decide to check one last time before leaving to see if Jiminy’s around. Score! We find Jiminy (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v116/gulliblegoose/100_1031.jpg) and get our pic. Yay! Mission accomplished. Last stop at AK for the day is It’s Tough to be a Bug, a favorite.
By now, it’s about noon, so we head back to Pop for food and a dip in the pool before heading to the Studios. We eat at the Pop foodcourt and are not overly impressed. The tye-died cheesecake everyone loves we find just “okay”. We take a dip in the computer pool, located right behind our building, and then head off to the Studios.
We arrive at exactly 3 pm and are in the perfect spot for the parade0 at the entrance of the park, right where the gate to backstage is, so we see everyone. The husband gets some great shots, including the Evil Queen (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v116/gulliblegoose/100_1083.jpg). After the parade, we head off to the Great Movie Ride, followed by Star Tours (no wait!) before meeting up with Jon & Tanya. We show them the raining Singin’ in the Rain umbrella and we all get our picture taken (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v116/gulliblegoose/100_1120.jpg). We then head to the Voyage of the Little Mermaid and we are all surprised by how much we enjoy it. Jon & Tanya head off to dinner at 50s Primetime and we head off to Muppets 3D(no wait!). We then meander to 50s Primetime to meet Erin & Keith for our dinner ADR.
We check in for our 7:30 ADR at about 7:15 but aren’t seated until about 8:00, the longest we wait for any ADR all trip. We’re seated and then Cousin Patty comes to take our drink orders. We all order the glowing cocktails (Keith- Grandma’s Picnic Punch, Erin- Mowi Wowi, DH- blue Glowtini, me- Electric Lemonade) and Cousin Patty announces us as the party table. After taking our orders, she decides Erin’s the troublemaker and makes her take the menus back to the front, get us coloring sheets, and set the table. She also decides the boys need bibs (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v116/gulliblegoose/100_1149.jpg). We all play along and have lots of fun. We’re still not sure if Cousin Patty loved us or hated us but we at least made things entertaining. We don’t end up leaving until about 9:30 and then we all head to Tower of Terror, where the boys insist on wearing their bibs like capes. There’s no wait (I was disappointed- I wanted a chance to check out the lobby a little bit) and before we know it, the ride’s over and we’re saying good night to Erin & Keith and meeting back up with Jon & Tanya. We all decide it’s time to head out and go meet our buses. Tomorrow, the 4 of us plan on resort-hopping before heading to Downtown Disney for dinner and shopping.
