I saw on the "Great Hotels" program about the GF that there is a ladybug release. Does anyone know if this is done at any other hotels or in the parks? I seem to remember reading about one at EPCOT also. Are they done at only certain times of the year?

The LB release takes place daily at the Mary Poppins topiary outside the 1st floor entrance to the Grand Floridian. Pretty neat.

The lady bug release is during the Flower and
Garden Festival at Epcot. It is held in the
spring. I think it starts sometime around the
first of April every year. It is held daily during
this event at Epcot. Check your times quide as
you enter the park for times. :mickey:

If you go on the "behind the seeds tour" there is a ladybug release during that tour too. It's a great little tour, here are our pics:

This question also seems to pop up after the Great Hotels show. Unfortunately, that program is pretty dated and so far no one has been able to get accurate info on whether this is still a scheduled event at the GF. We haven't seen it done there for years.

Someone posted a while ago that when she stayed at the GF, she thought she remembered reading about it in the list of activities on the resorts newsletter, but ended up not being able to confirm it. I've asked a few recent guests and they haven't seen it either.

Greetings,

We just returned from a wonderful trip to the world and part of our trip was a scavenger hunt. One of the items was the Mary Poppins topiary at the Grand Floridian (you had to take a photo of it). Since I did not know where it was I asked a very friendly cast member. She escorted me to the topiary and told me that if I was asking because of the lady bug release that they DO NOT do the release at that location any longer. She said alot of people are dissappointed as they hear about it on the Travel Channel but the show was a couple years old.

Sorry :(

Bummer--it looked like something out of the ordinary to do. I also read somewhere that it is/was done at Innoventions so I will check there as well.

My 2 DD's each got to release a box of lady bugs in the Magic Kingdom last year when we went. We had just walked into the park and a couple of CMs approached us and asked if they knew what day it was (Earth Day 2006), and if they would like to help them with something. We got some great pics of them!!!

I'm sorry to hear that the ladybug release no longer exsists at GF. My son had so much fun at the ladybug release at Epcot this past May. It was during the annual Flower and Garden Festival which ran from April 5-June 3, 2007 this spring. There was a special exhibit that had been built near Germany called "Growing Future Gardners." Twice daily they held a ladybug release for as many kids as wanted to participate. First, there was a fun lecture by a CM talking about why ladybugs are earth friendly. Then they told the kids what to do. Each kid got a special cardboard box the size of a matchbox with several ladybugs inside. Once they opened the box, they had to get the ladybugs to the plants. The kids were all laughing because the crawling ladybugs tickled. It was so cute. They had several boxes leftover so the kids got to release as many as they wanted. Here are some pics of my son at this year's ladybug release (http://good-times.webshots.com/album/560832819TaursE). As far as I know this is the only time of year that this is done at Epcot.
