Does anybody know if you can use miles to upgrade from coach to first class on American?

It depends on the flight. You can log in with your frequent flyer number and find out the details. On the flights that we have upcoming, it states next to them that the upgrade is not available, but it sometimes is.

It's easier to do this on American than other Airlines. I've been successful with American a few times, but it's been almost impossible when we've tried with Delta since they require you buy a fairly high priced ticket to be eligible (which AA does not require). If you haven't booked your original ticket yet, if you call AA they will tell you which flights have upgrades available. Good luck!
