Are they looking to replace all 4 chef's that are on there now? I really like Bobby Flay and Mario.

I love the original Japanese series. The voice dubbing adds so much fun to the show! But I will watch the American version on occasion. Bobby Flay is a tad arrogant for my tastes. He was very disrespectful when he guested on the Japanese version as a competitor for Morimoto. But his food always looks great.

I like the original Japanese version too. I have watched the American version only a couple of times.

I am not sure, but it will be on tv October 2. I know what I will be watching. I wonder if they will have this for a season, then the real American Iron Chef on next season. That's the way it should be.:marg:

Bobby Flay is pretty cool. He is coming to our town for a show next month, so I got tickets for my DW. She loves all those shows, but Paula Deen is her fav:thumbsup:

I saw the promo the other day for the search for the next Iron Chef and it looks like several of the competing chefs are former challengers on the series. From the quick cuts I could make out the following chefs-

Aaron Sanchez (Latin American specialist- faced Morimoto in a Black Bass battle and finished in a draw)

Traci Des Jardins (French/California cuisine- took on Mario Batali in battle Shrimp and won)

John Besh (French specialist- faced Batali and won in the Andouille battle)

Morou Ouattara (Fusion chef- lost to Bobby Flay in a frozen pea battle but won the chance to be on IC because he beat out other challengers in the Washington DC area)

Chris Cosentino (Italian chef- lost to Batali in a garlic battle)

Michael Symon (lost to Morimoto in battle Asparagus)

Gavin Kaysen- Food & Wine's best new chef for 2007 and was selected to represent the US in the Bocuse d'Or this past January I think it was.

Ok, a check of the food network site and the remaining chef is Jill Davie.

Of all the chefs who are competing- my early pick as a favorite to win would be Traci Des Jardins- really like her style and approach.

As for the other competitors- I don't know what it is, but for example with John Besh there's a certain arrogance/ego that seems to come across that I don't really care for.

I think 2 of the chefs (Chris Cosentino and Morou Ouattara) were both formerly at Red Sage in DC- that restaurant has really turned out a lot of culinary talent.

And I've been meaning to drive down to San Diego and check out Gavin Kaysen's cooking- it's been a few years since I had a stay at the Rancho Bernardo Inn for a friends wedding but I remember the restaurant there El Bizcocho and thought it was outstanding.

Red Sage, wow. My SIL used to be a greeter there. My DH got to go to dinner with her one night, but I wasn't in town. I do recall that he had ostrich carpaccio, though.

DH and I were faithful Feasting on Asphalt watchers both seasons. And you're right, I thought the first one was a little better, but I really enjoyed this one, too.

I'm looking foward to the Next Iron Chef competition. I think whoever wins will be featured on the following seasons Iron Chef, but I could be wrong.

Food Network does a show during the summers called "The Next Food Network Star" which DH and I watch. The person who wins wins a sixth month cooking show on Food Network. I'm looking forward to this season's winner's show, which starts sometime in October. She was the "gourmet next door".
