Thursday, August 23 Day Five
Dates: August 19- 29.
Grand Floridian, MK View: Boca Chica 8507
Cast:
Sherri: aka SBETigg, 38, longtime WDW fan.
Sean: The DH, 42, desperate for a vacation.
The DS: 16, still willing to be seen with parents at WDW.
The DD: aka SunshinePiglet, 14, shares love of all things Disney.
Today is our Disney MGM Studios day, but we also have two ADRs today, Sci Fi Dine In at 11 am and Rose & Crown at 6:40 pm. Instead of coming back for an afternoon break, we have opted to get a leisurely start and stay in the MGM/Epcot area until after Illuminations.
The kids are always grateful when I am not hassling them to get out of bed. But I can’t help it. I end up trying to urge them on a little because I want to ride a few things before lunch and you can imagine how long teens take in the bathroom every morning (hours).
We get to Disney Studios by nine-thirty, which is better than I expected. It’s a quiet day in the park and rides have minimal lines. We start on one of my personal favorites, Tower of Terror. It’s a twenty minute wait. The DS won’t ride ToT so he lingers with a bottled water and snack. After ToT, we hit Rock n Roller Coaster (http://inlinethumb08.webshots.com/15111/2158199850102098585S600x600Q85.jpg) with a ten minute wait and without the DD, who won’t ride R n RC.
The waits are both shorter than posted, so we bounce back and forth between the two for two rides each with kids alternating sitting them out. And then we still have time to hit the Great Movie Ride before lunch! That is, if we can get through the High School Musical crowd to get there. I’m pleased that my kids both detest the whole High School Musical thing and we scramble around the assembly without trouble.
One problem. The posted ten minute for Great Movie Ride turns into fifteen and we’re still standing in the middle of the aisles watching the movie clips. We decide that we have to duck out without riding if we plan to make it to our Sci-Fi ADR. We leave and make it a few minutes early.
Despite the fear of potentially bad food (it wasn’t), we’re excited to try Sci-Fi Dine-In (http://www.intercot.com/discussion/showthread.php?t=115556), something new for us. We’re doing it OOP and just planning on eating light, splitting some things. It’s a fun time.
Afterwards, we head for Muppetvision and Star Tours. We’ve opted to skip a lot of the park this time out, like Fantasmic and the stunt shows and other shows, because we feel we’ve done them recently enough that they don’t bear repeating. We do get back to do the Great Movie Ride, and it’s a bit of a bummer because we have a lackluster guide and a bad actress girl gangster. Still, we know they’re trying and we try to show our support.
After another few rides on ToT and RnRC, we head for Epcot. By now, it’s blazing hot and we’re all tired and drenched (without benefit of water ride- it’s that hot) and my hip is hurting a bit- we decide to take the boat. Big mistake. It’s like an oven in there and even though I insist I can make the walk the rest of the way, the DH stubbornly decides I don’t mean it and we will stay on the boat all the way to Epcot. Which is apparently a longer ride than I remembered. But we get there and head straight for the International Gateway shop for some cold water to replenish the fluids.
Afterwards, we’re still so hot that we give up our plan to head for Soarin’ and decide to go to the closer option, Journey into Imagination followed by Honey, I Shrunk the Audience. When we check the boards again, we find out that Fastpasses are already out for Test Track and Soarin and the lines are long. We head for Maelstrom, taking a moment to soak in the beauty of wand-free Spaceship Earth (http://inlinethumb03.webshots.com/13634/2975834330102098585S600x600Q85.jpg) and then it’s getting close to our dinner time anyway.
By the time we get to Rose & Crown (http://www.intercot.com/discussion/showthread.php?t=115562), we’re all really dragging and ready for a nice chance to sit and linger over dinner. We get our wish, a fabulous table right on the patio (http://inlinethumb34.webshots.com/15009/2090657060102098585S600x600Q85.jpg) in back with an amazing view of Illuminations. It’s an incredible evening, very special for all of us, and in keeping with the tone of our trip so far. Do we ever really have to leave?
