Applying a discount after a trip is paid in full?

How does that work exactly?

If I pay for my trip in full at rack rates, and they release a discount code later will they credit my card back the difference?

I just did this. Because I went from "room only" to the VISA package they had to cancel the original reservation, refund my credit card and rebook. If you are going from "room only" to "room only" or package to package, my understanding is that the money can just be transfered to the new lower rate. Hope that makes sense....
