I have a ticket upgrade question

I just purchased a Park Hopper ticket from a Disney Store to avoid the price hike. Now that the AP discounts have been releasesd, I'm thinking about buying an AP instead. Can't I trade in my PH ticket and get get credit towards the AP at a Guest Relations office in Disney?

It will be a slight hassle since I can't check in until I get the AP but worth it if I can get the credit.

You can apply the value of the tickets you purchased towards the cost of an annual pass on a ticket by ticket basis - that is - one purchased ticket for one annual pass.
