Here's the situation. I'm taking my chiropractor and his family to WDW in Dec., 2009. His two kids will be 6 year old boy & 8 year old girl by that time. They love going to Disneyland (annual pass holders) but have never been to WDW. He stated "I need a good bed. I don't care if we stay offsite if that's what it takes for a good bed." So, now I'm trying to figure out where to stay.

1. We can stay at Swan/Dolphin for a week for free through my timeshare. I know they have the Heavenly beds.

2. Try to transfer into the Animal Kingdom Lodge Villas through my timeshare. I'm sure his kids would love seeing the animals, but we all know there's no guarantee that I would get it.

3. Just save up the money and stay AKL concierge. The kids would love the animals, and I would finally get to do the Sunrise Safari. I don't know how comfortable their beds are though.

What do you guys think?

Hmm.. what does he mean by a "good bed"? It does sound like swan and dolphin might work for you.

I love wdw resorts but they don't have a great deal of choice when it comes to sleeping arrangements (no buckwheat prem. pillows etc..)

Perhaps you need to talk with them some more to think of other things they want too?

I have tremendous back problems, seven back surgeries, spinal stimulator implanted, the whole nine yards. Despite all that I have never found the beds at WDW to be that bad. We have stayed at the Contemporary, the Polynesian as well as all of the value resorts and have not found any significant difference between the beds at any of them. I guess I am in the same boat as a previous poster when I would have to ask what he means by a “good bed” and what other amenities are important to him and his family.

How kind of you!

I should think that, being a chiropractor, he could bring along a matress pad or special sleep pillows, if his primary vacation concern is a good bed to sleep in. This must be especially true if the concern originates from a medical condition.

Further, it's my geuss that once his kids see the magic of WDW, they'll not want to spend much time in the room.

Having kids myself, I think nothing can become a "pain in the back" faster than when the kids are unhappy. For us, life is much better when our kids' needs are accounted for first. We can adjust more easily.

I can't help but ask why are you taking your chiropractor? Is he a friend too? It just seems so strange that you said your chiropractor? I don't take my doctors anywhere, am I supposed too? I'm just puzzled, I didn't mean to insult or upset you.
I can't help with the beds, I could sleep on a picket fence:blush:

I have always wanted to stay at the Swan/Dolphin just to try out the Heavenly Beds. Well, I had the chance to stay in another Westin about 2 weeks ago and got to sleep in one... no big deal. I was kind of disappointed. The "specialty" beds at Holiday Inn were much better. If he is really picky, I would suggest he choose the hotel, so he isn't disappointed. All that being said, if you can stay at the S/D for free, that's were I would stay. So... if he doesn't want to go, be sure and let me know.....

Yes, go for the Swan and the heavenly beds. Great price and fantastic location.
We also found the beds at the Yacht Club to be wonderful. I have a sensitive back and that was the first time a hotel bed actually made my back feel better. Next trip we are going for the Swan.

Yes, our two families are good friends. DH first took me to see him about 10 years ago when all the doctors said that nothing could be done for my pain (before I found my pain specialist). He's done adjustments on me for free when I didn't have insurance, helped me through worker's comp nightmares, let me cry in his office when it got to be too much. DD babysits their kids, and when they were going through a rough time in there marriage I was a shoulder to cry on for both of them.

I'm lucky that all my doctors are big Disney fans, but my kids adore his kids and vice versa, so they'll have a blast at Disney together. I stated that he was my chiropractor, because that's how I think of him primarily. I call him Dr even when we're out socially. Dh thinks it's silly, but I just can't seem to break the habit. That is going to be kind've funny at WDW though. I can imagine us all sitting around Crystal Palace for breakfast and I say "How was your breakfast Doctor?" Hopefully Pooh won't think I'm too weird.

And don't worry, the ? didn't bother me at all.

Is the Swan better than the Dolphin? It seems like I was reading about one of them having a character meal with the Lion King characters at one time. Have you done that?

Yeah, do that. If having a "good bed" is what's most important to him, that's what I would choose. Plus there's still the great location and Disney transportation available at that resort. Happy planning!

Well I thought about bringing my chiroprator with me , too. Just for those quick fixes on the three-day drive there and back.

Actually, I can't help with the bed issue, either. I used to think I could sleep anywhere, too. That was until the 24 hour marathon on Amtrak from Orlando to NYC.

But that is another story...

There is that advantage. I might be able to try TOT, Space Mountain, etc. So, if anyone is going in 2009, and you walk out of a ride to find a chiropractor adjusting someone on the sidewalk, you'll know it's me. :D

I would suggest the free Swan/Dolphin. They like to advertise that they have really good beds so that was the first option that jumped into my mind before you even mentioned it would be free with your timeshare. The free part just makes it an added bonus! You may miss out on the Sunrise Safari but you could spend the money you save on other tours that the kids might love. And the Swan/Dolphin has the Disney transportation. Happy Planning!!! :mickey:

The only difference between the two hotels is that the Swan has queen size beds and the Dolphin has doubles. So if he likes to "spread out" while he sleeps then the swan!
As for the character meal it's such a short walk between the two hotels that it wouldn't matter much.
The Dolphin has the 24 hour "buffeteria" downstairs so with kids that's always a plus :mickey:

Thanks for the info everyone. I think I'll go down and check out the Swan while I'm down there in two weeks.
