Everytime I read a refurb list, Flame Tree is listed as seasonal operation. I don't get it. I've been there in June, early December, and late Jan/early Feb, and I've never seen less than 40 people waiting in line to eat there. Why would they ever shut this down? Or do they?

It seems to be more rare that it is closed lately. I visited in October and again another year in November and it was closed both times. The last time I went in November it was open. It sounds like they close it "when they feel like it" to me. Some folks are suggesting it will be open more than closed in the near future with Tuskar house being closed for changes.

I've never seen Flame Tree Barbecue closed, and I can't imagine where people would eat if it were not open. Even before Tusker House Restaurant closed, there were not many counter service options in Animal Kingdom. Pizzafari and Flame Tree Barbecue alone cannot handle everyone in the park.
