Thanks, again- all of you.

I think it would be wonderful to do one of the World Showcase Pavilions in Epcot

Ever since I started doing portraits around Orlando, I've looked differently at hotel properties and theme parks. Instead of just enjoying how nice everything looks, I keep spotting neat places I could put people for portraits... it's almost an affliction. At this point I've got hundreds of such "unused" locations- some of which I'm just itching to do (like bunches of places in EPCOT and around POFQ).

I think I've actually seen you in action one time while we were waiting for our sons to return from the pirate cruise at the Grand Floridian.

Well, I guess that's possible, though I think I probably look more like somebody's grandfather or "Uncle Charlie" than a pro. My equipment looks pretty simple (even though it isn't) and I don't cart around nearly as much junk as I used to as an amateur. :) I keep a low profile and make sure my clients and I stay out of other folks' way.

One more thing. Don't be afraid to call me last minute. If you can be flexible at all, I sure try to be- and "there's (almost) always room for one more" session in my schedule. Actually, when it works out I kind of get pumped up by a call like, "We're all here at Saratoga Springs, any way you can meet us tomorrow morning?"

Thanks for your support. I look forward to working with you and your family.

I wonder whether my galleries (http://flmemories.com/files/SKPhoto12-image.html) already contain any INTERCOT families? ...no one has said anything- not that your folks go around saying to everyone, "Hey, I'm an INTERCOT member, how about you?"...

Edited to add... I just wanted to clarify that clients end up on my web site or in my printed advertising only by their choice. Commercial use of anyone's image (except a celebrity or public figure?) requires a release, and anyway I wouldn't want to upset anyone. So I ask folks to sign a release and I give them a $30 refund if they do... no sweat if they don't. What's been amazing to me is how many people are OK about it- probably 60-80% of my clients. Even so, I've got a bunch of wonderful portraits from AK, Boardwalk, Old Key West, etc that I'd love to show but can't. Oh, well...

This must have been my week for public service. Yesterday I had jury duty, and ended up foreman of a jury in a half day trial (another group called yesterday is still stuck in a 3-5 day trial :ack:). Today I donated blood (you should have heard the pathetic begging phone call from the blood center- I couldn't ignore it. :().

Some of you might be wondering what my portrait sessions are like- do we just line up and shoot and that's it? ...not quite.

I always try to meet my client contact person a bit ahead of the scheduled time, before the entire group shows up. We walk around the area and select 2 or 3 spots to work in- the choices would depend on the client's wishes (most important) and light etc conditions at the time (secondary issue). Some clients want the photos to "scream Disney" :mickey:, some don't want anything Disney to show, others want something subtle (you can tell where the pics were made if you study them a bit). My session clock doesn't start until the 1st photo- and anyway I don't knitpick the time. When everyone arrives we can start doing pics right away in the first spot- trying to avoid kids (or sometimes adults) having a meltdown. :D Sometimes client & I both know which spot will be the "winner" (the best results) but sometimes we are both surprised later when we see the photos. ;)

It's often amazing how much we can do in a 30 minute session... check out this one from GF (http://www.flmemories.com/Samples/Session01_02.html), and this one from EPCOT (http://www.flmemories.com/Samples/Session01_01.html). For that GF session I've wondered how many other photographers might have quit after the first few shots since they looked pretty good- but some of the best poses came later.

Your photos are beautiful! Have you done anything at Vero beach? We will be having a family gathering for my kids graduation in '08. If Vero is within your geographic area I will contact you. Please let me know and thank you for your consideration of this. :mickey:

Hi MinniMommie,

Thanks for your kind words. :)

I haven't done any portraits at Vero beach (yet), but I'm willing. I've worked around both FL coasts for portraits and commercial photography :photo: (2004 (http://flmemories.com/files/images/WebF_02.html) 2005 (http://flmemories.com/files/images/WebU_21.html) 2007 (http://www.flpicture.com/files/images/Web70321_09.html)).

Email me some details of what you want & I'll send you a quote. Perhaps I could get more than one family to do at Vero, or combine with other business to keep additional travel charges at a minimum. It sounds like fun. :clappy:

I actually have 2 graduating from college and one from HS this year. We are also taking 2 of their close friends who are graduating. The hold up is that we don't have the date for the HS graduation. As soon as we do we will know which week we will be at VERO and how many people will be with us. I wil contact you as soon as I know more. Thanks :mickey:

I had a delightful experience one evening last week out at Orange Lake Resort in Kissimmee, doing photos of a large family from Wisconsin (http://www.FLmemories.com/files/images/WbAB_03.html). There are 17 granddaughters and 5 grandsons ranging in age from 3 to 20, but no great-grandchildren, yet. I told them that in 10-15 years their family would be... :jaw:

A few more of their photos are on my image gallery 1. (http://www.FLmemories.com/files/SKPhoto12-image.html)

I just thought I'd share a bit about why I get so much enjoyment out of making portraits for Orlando visitors.

I get to meet a lot of really nice people. :hands:
Not only that, I get to soak up some of their good time good vibes. :fworks:
I have the satisfaction of knowing that my portraits will be treasured long after I'm gone.
As an engineer, I'm pleased to handle the technical details of photography, computers etc well :geek: (that's pretty important) but that stuff is secondary.

I'm glad people get so many photos from so many sources while they're here. I've always thought that my portraits complement my clients' own pics, and those made by the Disney Photopass photographers. Quality in photography is often a very subjective thing- technical excellence is only a small part of the equation- but people tend to know it when they see it.

I pondered this next paragraph for a while, and almost deleted it- I don't want to make anyone sad. However, if I can encourage someone to preserve their family memories while they still can- and I don't care if that involves me- it's worth that chance.

You do want to take what opportunities you have for family portraits. We lost my Mom unexpectedly in 2005, and we do not have all the photos we would like to have of her, or of the family with her. One day, memories and pictures may be all that you have. :(

I've talked so much about family pictures, I don't want to make it sound like I don't do anything else.

Now I know there are lots of beautiful spots for outdoor portraiture no matter where your "home" is, but in a lot of places those are only available a few months of the year. (And I know what I'm talking about, we lived in OH and PA for 14+ years. :snowball: :freeze: No wonder photographers there generally are set up for indoor portraits. :()

The point I want to make is that Orlando is just chock full of all these wonderful outdoor portrait spots that are usable pretty much any day. So while you're here, why not let me do your senior portraits (http://flmemories.com/files/images/WbAA_05P.html)? ...or add to your modeling portfolio (http://flmemories.com/files/images/WebO_06.html)? ...or make that romantic photo (http://flmemories.com/files/images/WbAE_04P.html) to give to your boyfriend (sorry Glamour Shots)? Or let me do the big family, then just keep going for one or more of the individual sessions I'm describing. Sometimes I think folks stop their sessions too soon- but I never want to seem pushy. :) My portrait galleries (http://flmemories.com/files/SKPhoto12-image.html) just keep growing (6 pages at this point) with more and more possibilities.

I've had some WDW panoramas on my web site for a while now. A travel agent friend asked me to make a mural from the Poly one for her office- it turned out really nice (6 feet long :eyes: by 14" high), and cost under $40 including shipping!

So, I thought I'd put 3 of these big files where any of you could download them. A big print on your wall could help you to pretend you're in WDW whenever you want. :cloud9: You can Google "big photo help" to find the print supplier I use.

Here they are:
EPCOT web sized image (http://flmemories.com/files/locations/images/EPC-pan1w.html)
EPCOT full sized image (http://flmemories.com/IC/EPC-pan1c.JPG) (7.7 MB)
MK web sized image (http://flmemories.com/files/locations/images/MK-pan1w.html)
MK full sized image (http://flmemories.com/IC/MK-pan1c.JPG) (4.3 MB)
Poly web sized image (http://flmemories.com/files/locations/images/Poly-pan1w.html)
Poly full sized image (http://flmemories.com/IC/Poly-pan1c.JPG) (4.9 MB)

If you order prints from these, I'd like to know how it works out. I'd sure like to see a photo of your home/office display of my panorama(s). :)

I spent a while this evening updating my web site with some recent portraits...

- portrait gallery 2 (http://flmemories.com/files/SKPhoto12-image2.html) - top row and a half is a family at CBR and Hollywood Studios- they found me here on INTERCOT- thanks!.

- portrait gallery 3 (http://flmemories.com/files/SKPhoto12-image3.html) - 2nd & most of 3rd row are a local family outside & near their home. DW thought it was one of my better efforts. :D

- portrait gallery 5 (http://flmemories.com/files/SKP-image5.html) - first part of 1st row is a family at MK - also an INTERCOT booking.

While I truly believe my portrait sessions are a good value, I understand folks may not have a lot of excess cash floating around in their Orlando vacation budget to pay for them. So here are a few ideas to help make my services even more affordable.

1. Use the photo CD included with my $225 standard session to order prints from other sources. As you'll see from my proofs and sample print included with your session, I do make high quality prints. If you order additional prints from me, I'll double and triple check them, and perhaps even do a bit more editing, to make sure they're the best I know how to do. However, I can't come close to the pricing of online, drugstore, or photo store labs. If you're willing to do your own QA- if you're willing to tell a clerk "this isn't right- please reprint it- here's what it should look like" (showing them the sample I made for you), you should save a lot of $ compared to my print pricing.

2. Sign a photo release for me and save $30. Or take advantage of my "selected portrait spots" offer (http://www.intercot.com/discussion/showthread.php?t=114295) and the release will save you $50.

3. Combine portrait sessions with another family or group. I don't care how many families, couples, individuals, etc are in a single session, so long as it's in 1 general location, all done back to back, 1 invoice, 1 proof package, all photos on 1 CD (up to 3 copies are included no extra charge), payment from 1 person. One session, even with extra time charges ($30 per quarter hr), is quite a bit less expensive than 2 or 3 separate sessions (because it's so much easier for me), so the cost per family or group goes way down. So make friends with the family next to you at dinner and ask if they'd like to go halvsies on portraits. :D (But don't get yourself or me in trouble with anyone.)
