I thought this would be a fun question to ask so here it goes:

What route do you take to get to WDW from where you live if driving? We live in Michigan and our trip goes like this-

I-75 South to 23 to reach Toledo
Hop on 80/90 heading east through OH
Grab I-77 heading down through the Virginias, and North Carolina
Continue on I-77 until we reach Columbia, SC where we grab our usual hotel. The next morning we continue south to take I-95 all the way until I-4
I-4 SW to WDW the next day around noon!!

We could take I-75 south all the way to Florida but it is not near as scenic. We love the mountains, the tunnels and the water!! For going a bit out of our way it is only a little over an hour's difference so we choose our favorite way!

Only two more weeks! :mickey:

We live in the panhandle of Florida. We take
I-10 thru Tallahassee to Lake City where we
take I-75 to Wildwood then we get on the turn
pike to I-4 after that WDW. :D
It is about a 7 hour trip from Penascola where
we live. :mickey:

Slightly off topic, but Guya, how long do you drive each day? We're probably going to drive in February, but I don't trust the driving times on the online maps.

We take the 401/QEW to the Peace Bridge and cross over in NY,

I-90 to the I-190,
I-79 to the Beckley by-pass,
I-77 to the I-26 and onto the I-95
Finally we slide onto the I-4 and head 'home'

If we are staying with DH's parents we then have to head south on the 27 to Lake Wales/Frostproof Florida.

We are in Myrtle Beach, so we take 501 to 378 to I-95, I-4 to Sanford, then 417 to Osceola Parkway, and we're there! About 8 hours depending on traffic.

We're in SC. We take I-26 to I-95 to I-4.

I've always wondered how I-4 can be an interstate when it is only in one state and has no potential to be in another state. Just one of those things that makes you say hmmmmmm.....

We drove in both 99' and 04' straight down I 95. I kinda miss those long drives but it's better to get to WDW faster.

For us, from Mid-Michigan it takes about 19-20 hours to get there. We start at 5AM on day one and get to Columbia, SC around 7 PM. :mickey:

Instead of using I-4 from the Turnpike you can now use the new highway, 429. Off the turnpike it's 267A. Just head south on 429 to exit 8 (Hartzhog Road and WDW). Follow the WDW signs and it'll take you right onto property (Western Way). Watch your speed, it starts out at 45 then drops to 35. Western Way will bring you to Buena Vista Drive between Coronado Springs and Blizzard Beach.

I take a flight out of Columbus, Ohio (CMH) airport to Orlando (MCO). I would rather fly than drive so I can spend more time at WDW. Plus we got real cheap tickets through southwest.:mickey:

We have taken the plane the last few trips, but back in the day we used to drive straight through and it was:
I-79 to W.V. I-77 to the I-26 and then I-95
Until we slide hit I-4 and WDW

We get dropped off by car at the old Fore River Shipyard in Quincy, MA. Then hop on an MBTA boat. From there get dropped off at Logan Airport and take a shuttle to Jet Blue. Land at MCO, and hop on the ME to our resort. Best method for us.

429 Sounds Like The Way To Go,, I Just Hope They Have Good Signs Up For The Roadways, At Night It's So Easy To Get Lost, I Know I Have Lost My Way A Few Times, And There Were No Signs To Be Found.

From Youngstown, Ohio, 80 to 76 to 77 to 26 to 95 to 4. Last year, we left at 6 pm, stopped for a nap for about 2 hours midway, then on til morning. Had lunch at the ESPN Club at about 1 pm, ice cream at Beaches and Cream after that, then checked in at the Best Western for an early turn in. Checked into the GF at 7:30 Sunday morning, had breakfast and were at AK shortly after opening. Didn't leave the last day until after 10 pm staying at another inexpensive hotel before heading back north. We got every minute of the magic we could.

It's a long drive but the final destination makes it exciting so it's not so bad! Stopped in Atlanta to visit our daughter on the way home to break up the trip.

I haven't heard about this! Is it a lot faster than just going from the turnpike to I-4? Are there red lights on 429 and what is the speed limit there?

Driven three times to WDW and back. Very simple for me . . . .

I-95 to I-4

That's it. But, it is a very busy drive almost all the way down. Only exception to that is the stretch through the Carolinas.

Absolutely! You get to the exit for 429 way before you get to the I-4 exit. Just take 429 Southbound. No red lights, one toll and the speed limit is 65 mph.
When exiting for WDW you'll be on Western Way. This is the one you need to watch your speed on. The speed limit starts at 45 and drops to 35. Just yesterday I saw a car pulled over in the 35 mph zone.
Western Way ends at Buena Vista Drive between Coronado Springs and Blizzard Beach. Just follow the signs for you resort area.

If driving, we take a couple of local roads to Rt 60 to I-79 to Rt 19 to I-77 to I-26 to I-95 to I-4 to WDW - 16 hrs actual driving time if you don't count the stops. If we're flying, we take the same local roads to Rt 60 to Pgh International Airport to the SW gate then DME to WDW.

Thanks for the info. I went and looked it up after I read this thread. I had heard about a new highway in the past but I didn't know it had opened yet. I saw the construction of the road coming in beside Coronado on our trip in 2005. Can't wait to try it out!

Another  for the new entrance. I used to tell ppl I live about 2 1/2 hrs from Disney, or 3 hrs with kids in the car ;). Since Jeanne told me about the new way in, via 429, I've shaved about 30min off my travel time, one way. From the time I leave my home to the time I pull into the resort (or park) is right at 1:55! Thanks again, Jeanne.
