I just applied to the local Disney Store and I was wondering has anyone worked for them or is working for them now to give some pointers on what they look for. I know the first one is customer service in the highest quality, retail experiance, and others. I am really excited about the possiblity I know they are not still owned by the company outright but still would love to work there. So tips/help would be great!

Thanks

I worked for TDS over holiday season about 5 years ago, but that was when they were still owned by Disney. I'm not sure what things are like now since Children's Place took over.

Honestly? It wasn't all that great. Customer service really mattered very little. What they emphasized the most was sell, sell, sell. They really pushed you to get up in people's faces and push whatever the special of the day/week was.

I did it because, back then, they had great perks (like 50% off room rates in WDW), but I wouldn't do it now that they've gotten rid of all that.

Yeah, it's all about sales. Knowledge of Disney means little if anything these days. I'm not even sure if they still honor the Disney dress code, meaning no facial hair (well, nothing in progress), no piercings, "normal" colored hair, no visible tatoos, etc. But showing up looking like a normal civilized person doesn't hurt. We would TNT people right away based on first impressions, we knew while they were filling out the app if they were going in the "Thanks No Thanks" pile or not.

Due to the hours worked, it was also necessary to be 18 to work at many of the stores.

Without the perks though, you might want to check into some other stores at the mall that might offer better discounts that you can take advantage of. There's nothing to speak of in terms of Disney discounts... Well, there's the single three day ticket, but honestly, I'd get a better paying job elsewhere that will more than make up for that "perk".

That is really so sad. I have often thought of applying for seasonal work but I have not heard of great things. It seems like it was much better when it was actually owned by Disney. If you can work there and enjoy it, you should go for it, but doesn't sound like it has much disney magic anymore. :(

couldn't agree more... although shopping at TDS is fun in so many ways, when working there a lot of the magic is sucked right out... when i applied i thought it was going to be really fun and i would get to talk to people about WDW... but in reality i barely got to talk to anyone about disney and i was forced to try and sell anything and everything to ANYONE. and since TDS is owned by the childrens place now, the only perks you get in the parks is every year you get three 1-day base tickets. so if u just plan on going down for 3 days its nice, but if you plan on a week or so, the 3 free days really only saves you like 10 bucks... you do get 30% off TDS merchandise and 10% of media in the store. so thats nice if you shop there a lot. but my advice would be just give it a shot. different managers act different ways. my girlfriend also works at TDS in a different mall than i did and she loves her job and manager. so give it a shot! good luck
