Just wondering what the rules are. Can you swim at any Disney resort if you are staying at another one of their resorts. We will be staying at Wilderness Lodge and wonder if we could swim at the pool at the Boardwalk Inn after we visit the Boardwalk? I think that I read somewhere that they allow this, but can not find where I read this. :diver:

You can only use other pools if you are staying at sister resorts (the All Stars or Port Orleans) or if you are a DVC member (with limitations). Otherwise, pool hopping is not permitted anymore.

You can only swim at the pools you are paying for. If you want to swim at the Boardwalk, you need to be staying there. The Wilderness Lodge has a great pool! I think you can actually use the Fort Wilderness Pool as well, last I heard.

Jeanie, you may have read something regarding the WL pool and pool-hopping when the WL refurbed their swimming facilities earlier in the year. Christine is correct - you cannot pool hop at another resort. Another thread discussed this at length earlier, and it was brought up that resort IDs are often checked, especially at the Epcot resort areas. Sorry!

I know from being a DVC member at the Beach Club, that they don't allow people who are not staying at the Beach or Yacht club to swim in Stormalong Bay (the pool between the two resorts).

The only way you can swim at both WL and Boardwalk is if you are staying in the VC Villas at either resort. VC members can enjoy pool-hopping privileges, except for the BC/YC (unless staying at BCV) or AKL.

Ok, not that I would pool hop - HOWEVER - we just got back from BWI and while I was there I sat next to a young couple who were staying at the Contemporary - SHE SAID that she had asked the front desk at BWI if she could swim for the afternoon and they said yes. No one ever checked her room key (I know because I was sitting next to her all day and I did happen to ask if anyone checked it) - I inquired as to wether this was permitted at other on-property resorts and she said she had ALWAY pool hopped and never had a problem - she said the day before they had been at Beach Club all day with no problem.... so I guess the question is, how comfortable are you with pool hopping AND as I think has been mentioned before, if a CM asks for your room key are ya' gonna be a bit embarrased?

Our family was content to stay at our resort, we would have liked to have had a dip at other resorts, I just don't think it's in good taste - IMO....;)

OK...I found what I read regarding the use of other resort facilities. In the book "Fodor's Walt Disney World with Kids 2006", page 41 talks about the use of other on-site hotel facilities. It states "if you want to use the child care or sports facilities of other Disney hotels or dine at their restaurants, you can receive preferential treatment over off-site visitors." ".....even if you are staying at the mid-priced Port Orleans, you can use the kids' club at the Polynesian or take a tennis lesson at the Contemporary." I wasn't sure if "sports facilities" included swimming pools.

We LOVE the pool at the Wilderness Lodge and will spend alot of time there again on our next visit. I just thought it would be nice to have a dip in the pool on the day we visit the Boardwalk. :swim:

I would never think of breaking any rules.
We LOVE Disney too much to end up walking the plank!!!!!! :pirate:

Wish we were there right now,
on Main Street watching the Spectromagic parade, eating a carmel apple!!!

When we stayed at the Beach Club they made us get a wrist band (I had to show them my resort ID) and that was in September when it was very quiet.

When I was a child I can remember swimming at the Poly when we were renting a cabin in Fort Wilderness and never had a problem but I did read that they discontinued the practice.

I would just double check by asking the front desk at the Boardwalk when you're visiting. What is the worst that can happen? They say no and oh well on with your day!

I'm just wondering how the front desk people could make the decision whether or not it's okay to swim. I would think that's a decision that should be made by the lifeguards. They're the ones who would know how close to capacity the pool is at that time. Some of the pools actually have extremely low capacity considering the number of people at the resort.

When we were going to Disney in the late 70's, early 80's, it was something that was okay to do. That was before many of the resorts were built though and I'm sure they didn't have the capacity that they have today.

The problem is that if a family wants to pool hop and thinks that it's OK because "what difference will 4 (or whatever) people make?" - if you have 5 - 20 or more families doing this, it really makes the capacity of the pool go up and therefore more crowded with finding seats, waiting for the slide, etc. and this is not fair to the people who paid to stay there. And I don't even only mean deluxe resorts, the values too - they paid to be there and should only have the people from that resort use the pools.... The rules are to not pool hop (with exception to DVC members with restrictions) so they should be followed. I know that some people believe that they are 'above' the rules...

I agree completely.
And even with the exception of DVC members, I've noticed that more and more pools on Disney property require wristbands (as already said, at the Beach Club) or you need to use your room key to get through the gate.

Ok simular question along the same lines:number1:. We will be staying at the Poly and my brothers family at the All Stars, can they swim with us at the Poly pool one afternoon or is this a no-no. I guess if no one is allowed to pool hop then no one is allowed to have guest at their resort too, is that right:confused:?

I would think that as long as one of you are staying at the resort it wouldn't be too much of an issue. I would be surprized to see Disney make a guest's family leave.

When we were in Vegas with friends the same thing happened to us (they stayed at a different resort, our stay was comp. from the casino host, why pay when you don't have to. Plus our host was able to get us tickets to the sold out shows we wanted to see.) but they came to our hotel to swim and we didn't have any problems at all.

If you are at all concerned just ask the front desk when you check in. I would recommend nicely telling them that your brother and his family will be joining you for a swim later on during your stay. Try not to pose it as a question more like a very polite FYI, people have a hard time refusing when you're not really asking.

Right--you cannot have guests (whether they are staying at another Disney hotle or off site) visit you and use the pool. You'll each have to swim at your own resort or go to one of the water parks and all swim together.

Disneymom, the Poly's pool capacity is 110. That doesn't even cover the guests staying at the Poly, so unfortunately, I wouldn't expect them to allow even family to swim with you.

".....even if you are staying at the mid-priced Port Orleans, you can use the kids' club at the Polynesian or take a tennis lesson at the Contemporary."...Child care and sports facilities refers to services you pay for at the resort, for example, renting a boat from the dock at WL or leaving a child at a drop-off child care facility. Similarly, anyone can book an ADR at 1900 Park Fare in the GF and pay (or use DDP credits) on the spot.

Part of the reason people pay extra for 'deluxe' resorts is they have better pools. And I would think the EPCOT area pools would offer a particularly attractive midday break for EPCOT guests.

Nope, no pool-hopping....

You can't use other resorts pools, the made me sad when I asked the same question. I wanted to swim at the Poly pool but couldn't.:(
