Staying off WDW property with DVC points

Alright one more question from the future DVC owner. I was wondering if any of you had used your points to stay at one of the participating hotels off property, like in Boston, DC, Arizona, etc. If you have how easy is it to book a room? Do they only have a set number of rooms that they will rent to DVC members? Is it difficult to book at Hilton Head or Vero Beach, if we decided to head there after our main WDW vacation? I can't answer about using DVC points outside of DVC as we have not done that. As far as Hilton Head and Vero the ease of getting in would depend on the time of year that you are going. I would recommend booking as soon as you know your dates. You can book these two 7 months out if they are not your home resort.
