My wife & I just returned from an awesome weekend trip to DL/DCA. We purchased a package a couple months ago which included a 3 Day park hopper. After we booked the trip, we decided to go again in November for our daughter's B-Day, and realized that an AP would really save us some cash. So, Friday morning we traded in our 3-Day Passes for the Deluxe AP. We made sure our November dates were not blacked out and made the switch. Everything was fine. Until the next morning. It turns out that that Saturday was a blackout day. It turned into a 30 min. ordeal convincing them that our 3-day would have admitted us so we should be 'grandfathered' so to speak. The CM who helped us, Ethan (KUDOS!) was great. He was on our side from the start and finally we were issued a single day override pass.
Anyway, the moral is this:
Wait until your final day if you want to upgrade to an AP. It could save some time and stress.
Note: The Premier Passes have no blackout dates but are quite a bit more expensive.
