View Full Version : AAA vs. MJ

Hi everyone.

So I'm getting mixed messages about what you can get by using MJ or AAA to make reservations.

From what I'm reading, it looks like MJ can make Disney reservations directly and then apply discounts from Disney (if they come) to your vacation when they come out, for either rooms or packages. They can use AAA to get room only discounts but not packages. You have to book directly through AAA to get the AAA MYW package discounts. Correct?

The issue I'm having now is deciding which is going to be a better deal. The questions:

Do I just go with MJ and hope that Disney comes out with a package discount for the time we are going? Historically (the past two years), Disney did have a public package discount but that's no guarentee that will happen again this year (although I'd bet they do). But if they don't and we book through MJ, we might not be able to get as good of a discount as we would booking through AAA for a package. I would think that a package is a better idea as we want to do the DDP as well, but if we book through MJ and the package discount from Disney doesn't happen, we might not save as much money as if we had gone through AAA.

:help:

OK, I'm rambling, but I'm stuck as to what is going to save us the most money. I think what would help me is knowing what the historical discounts have been. The Info section states there have been discounts, but doesn't say what they were. Does anyone know? Does anyone have any advice? Are the Disney package discounts historically better than the AAA ones? Also, if I book through AAA and get the AAA Diamond Club Card and can save 10% at DTD, doesn't that make it a better deal? Is that card still available? If Disney comes out with a better rate, will AAA apply it to my vacation and let me know if it's a better deal if I provide it to them? (I know they won't do it automatically.)

I have so many questions about this but I could use some guidance. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

In your signature you list a possible trip this fall, so I'm guessing that's the historical period you're referring to? Is your projected arrival date within 8/26 - 9/22? If so, then you'd be eligible for the Stay, Play, and Dine promotion (free dining). They've done this the past 3 years and not offered any other promotions in the fall besides, except for AP or AAA discounts, which cannot be combined with the free dining. If you're traveling outside those dates, the AAA discount may be your best option.

I need to update my signature!

Actually, we are looking at the week after Thanksgiving, so (unless they change things and we get lucky!) there will be no free DDP for us.

Anyway, back to your suggestions! ;)

Only you can make that decision. Just make sure you know what the regular rate is when you contact AAA so your sure you are getting a discount, they too are capacity controlled.

Thanks for that information, Nanci. But do you know what those discounts were? What % was off? Or how much money? Thanks.

Not off the top of my head. Let me see if I can find anything. I know if you search on my name and go back to around page 10 or 11 that the original thread was still there last week!
