Day One: The Big
Blue World Event
On January 24, 2007, the Walt Disney World resort commemorated a newly
re-imagined pavilion at Epcot and officially premiered a new Broadway
quality show at the Animal Kingdom—both centered around the film “Finding
Nemo”.
The Seas with Nemo & Friends Pavilion is the newly re-imagined form of the
Living Seas Pavilion. In addition to Turtle Talk (which opened in 2004), the
new pavilion features an anchor attraction by the same name. The Seas with
Nemo & Friends features technology that puts the stars of "Finding Nemo"
swimming amid the live marine life of the pavilion’s huge aquarium. Although
Guests have been enjoying the pavilion in its new form since Fall 2006, the
Big Blue World Event officially christened the pavilion’s re-imagined state.
Out of the watery depths of Dinoland USA, a rousing musical journey has
emerged. Finding Nemo-The Musical creates a magical undersea environment
through innovative lighting, sound, special effects, animated projections,
and the theatrical puppetry. Although the show had several months of
previews under its belt, the official World Premier was held as part of the
Big Blue World Event.
Finding Nemo—The Musical
Just finished up the Nemo musical and I have to say I was impressed. I
really didn't know how a non musical would translate into a musical, or how
they would pull of fish as puppets but all works very well and has the feel
of a Broadway musical. once you get past the fact that the puppets are
operated and voiced by people in plain view... you become immersed in the
big blue world. good news for fans of the Nemo ride... the finale song is
incorporated into the show. --JohnY

Big Blue World Party Finale

The Seas with Nemo & Friends
"The dedication of "the Seas with Nemo and Friends" took place at the Big
Blue World Party. The party include special entertainment and a fireworks
finale. We certainly felt like we were in the "Sea" as it poured most of the
night. This was not the normal 15 minutes and it's over rain. This was
constant, steady, relentless, cold, rain. I actually felt bad for Disney
because it was obvious that they had quite a shindig set up and ready to go
outside - and it all had to be moved indoors. Even with that, food was
plenty (good sushi and prime rib) and the drinks were flowing. They had some
very neat "cirque" kind of stuff with what we called bubble people - folks
in white body suits and white balloons floating around them and giant jelly
fish type things floating all around. They also made a bunch of palm trees
look like giant jelly fish as well. Inside, they showed off the new Nemo
ride which we have already reported on here at INTERCOT and Turtle Talk. Of
note, they also have built a wall at the very end of the Nemo queue, so you
now don't see right into the rest of the Pavilion, thereby ruining the whole
"we're underwater" thing."
