Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
Presented by the U.S.-Saudi
Arabian Business Council
The information on this site may not be reproduced in

from EDC.
Located next to Brazil, Saudi Arabia's
oasis exhibit begins with a taste of a traditional
Saudi tea. This was discontinued in the winter or
early spring of 2000 and replaced with the opportunity
to get your name translated and written in Arabic.
Also at the entrance to the exhibit is the Spirit
of Saudi Arabia sign, map, two palm trees,
and two identical games. The palm trees' trunks are
actually clear plastic tubes filled with water bubbling
up from the base. The palm leaves of the tree are
made of metal. Two more palm trees sit closer to the
Saudi Community Scrapbook. The two games are on platforms
that guests stand on. Centered on the platform is
a model of a Saudi village under a clear plastic dome
and set atop a base. The object is to move a large
ball from place to place around the village by moving
around the platform to get one side to be higher than
the other causing the ball to roll. Half walls reminiscent
of desert sand dunes surround the games about two/thirds
the way around.
In
the center of the exhibit is the Saudi Community Scrapbook.
Here, we take a seat, pick up a telephone earpiece
and listen to stories from Saudi Arabians. They tell
their accomplishments, their dreams, and what their
lives are like. Behind the centerpiece to this area
is a large mural that shows a Saudi Arabian city by
night on the left side and by day on the right. Also
to the right is a large black tent called Rise of
the Kingdom according to a sign hanging on the front.
Inside, four guests take positions on each of the
four sides of a giant open book. The Saudi host tells
us that we are going to experience the story of the
creation of the country. The four guests maneuver
a magic carpet that hangs from the center until they
can get it over one of the five sections on the book
that is illuminated with white fiber optic sparkles.
A portion of the book pops up showing a scene from
the story while a female narrator tells that portion
of the story. The fifth and final segment is located
in the middle of the book and reveals the thriving
desert cities of the country today.
To the left of the Saudi Community Scrapbook
is Spirit Oasis located in a smaller, more circular
tent. Inside the dark, enclosed tent, an animated
video shows a western man parched from the heat taken
in by the hospitality of a Saudi Arabian man. A stream
of water pours from puddle to puddle on a rock formation
in the center of the tent backing up to the wall under
the screen. Projected onto the stream of water are
Arabic words that are translated into English words
as they flow from the top pool down the stream to
the bottom pool.
World ShowPlace
Presented by The Republic
of Venezuela and Aeropostal Alas de Venezuela
World ShowPlace is an enclosed
5,000 square foot, 250 seat theater in which Denmark's
contribution to the pavilion, a Tivoli Gardens puppet
show based on Hans Christian Andersen Fairy Tales,
is presented several times daily. In addition, every
week or two, a new entertainment group from around
the world performs. Groups from Malta, Sri Lanka,
Israel, Puerto Rico, and Fiji have performed here.
Before each performance, a video tour of Venezuela
is presented.
