Afternoon Tea @ GF
Thinking we might do this on our upcoming trip, and wondering if there was a dress code? Can you order any kind of tea with the packages, or does each package come with a pre-determined tea? We're specifically thinking we'd might go with the Buckingham Palace offering. Any info would be great since there isn't much online about it. Thanks!

I do believe you can order the tea of your choice. I recall the servers coming around with the tea chest so those there could select their favorites. You're not even required to have tea if you don't want to. I actually had champagne instead of tea and I certainly saw many, many glasses of champagne being delivered to various tables throughout the room. The sandwiches, though they seem quite teeny are, in fact, filling enough to take the place of a meal. And...the dessert is just scrumptiously yummy!

In addition to Linda's comments, no dress code (other than you have to be dressed). You'll see folks dressed straight from the parks and dressed a little more dressy. My wife and mom did this last year and really enjoyed it. They said it's a bit of a "froo-froo" kind of thing, but it was fun for an afternoon. There were several selections on the tea.

My Mom and I did this once and had a great time. It was a different way to spend an afternoon. We saw most people in shorts and sneakers/sandals,we wore casual sundresses because we thought it might be fun to be dressed a little. I don't remember exactly which tea we ordered but we had scones, pastries, and after our pot of tea, it was a lavender tea, we had champagne and strawberries. Our waitress took time to explain all the different teas to us and emphasized the relaxing part of having afternoon tea. The tea room is lovely with a garden view, beautiful china and table linens.

1) You can order any tea with any package.
. . . however, I do not remember any "bag" tea
. . . the whole idea is to brew loose-leaf tea in pots
. . . not saying they don't have bags
. . . we just have never seen any
2) For dress code
. . . park dress code is acceptable
. . . most people dress slightly better
. . . some even dress "to the nines"
3) Time
. . . book an early ADR
. . . you will want to take your time
. . . you could stretch this easily to 1½-2 hrs
. . . nice room, overlooking gardens and pool
. . . a totally quiet and relaxing interval
NOTE: This is a lazy, elegant afternoon, and we
dress in nice shirts and presses shorts. Not quite
as dressy as the Ritz or Palms, but nicer than a
fast food stand.

Excellent to hear that people enjoyed this as I have booked a late afternoon tea for my wife and I. Is there a link available for an actual menu? I hate ordering blind

I will definitely have to do this the next time I bring a friend or my niece with me! Doesn't sound like something my DH would enjoy, but it sure sounds fantastic to me!

We did this two years ago.
Setting: Lovely, such a nice place to go and relax.
Tea: English breakfast. After almost two weeks away without a cup of tea. I would have paid a lot more to have a single cup. We had as many pots as we wanted
Food: Now I think this may be because we come from the UK. to us it was down right weird. Wrong sandwich combinations - pumpkin in the desert - wrong everything. We were so disapointed as we were so looking forward to it. My daughter who was eight at the time and quite picky asked for a plain ham or cheese sandwich as she didnt want one of the complicated one offered but the server said this wasnt possible!!
All in all a very disppointing experience - but everyone else seens to love it so it could just be us
