Default Tell me about refillable mugs...

How much do the refillable mugs cost? Do you purchase them at your resort? Can you refill them in the parks? Any info. is appreciated

........mugs are $14.49....and yes you purchase them at the resort you are staying at. They are not refillable in the parks....but are intended for limitless refills in your resort...for the duration of your stay. Currently....the mugs are also part of the dining plan.....and will be "free" as part of the plan (if you purchase it)...but are still only usable in you resort. If you're a big coffee or beverage drinker...they're well worth it......based on an approx. cost of $2/cup.

So, if we have the dining plan, then we should all get a free refillable mug at our resort?

The mug coming with the DDP starts in 2012. That is not with the regular DDP for 2011.

Thanks for clearing that up! So...if I have a mug from a previous trip, I'm sure that one can't be used again, right? They probably have new designs each year.

Exactly! The mugs are only good for your current stay, so you will need a new one for this trip.

Thumbs up

Altho there is an exception to the rule isn't there? When I stay at the Willderness Lodge and use my resort specific cup from 1994 I'm in the clear right? Because it was grandfathered in from when the mug was billed as unlimited soda for the rest of your stays at that resort with the cup! Right? Haha its been a few years since I stayed at the lodge and tried, what's the generl rule of thumb on that these days?

That has been the case, but no more. Or at least shortly that will be no more. Disney is going to RFD chips in all mugs that will be required to get drinks. It's already installed in some of the All Star resorts and is supposed to be in all resorts by early 2012. This wasn't a slap against those with these old mugs, but against those abusing the system by bringing all kinds of mugs (many not related to Disney at all) as well as mugs that don't fall under the grandfathered system. Apparently the abuse was too widespread so Disney has eliminated the ability to use mugs without the RFD chips. My understanding is that these old mugs will no longer be usable as a result. And even though it seems unfair, the legal stuff always states that Disney reserves the right to change the policy.

Even thought the mugs are only for use at your resort, its well worth, even if just for a morning coffee before heading to the parks or a soda when you get back, esp considering that the sodas in the vending machines last time I went were $3.25 each!

....absolutely correct on all fronts!! I just got back from a stay at POP....and we had the free dining (QS dining plan)...which got us mugs for free. It irked me to no end...seeing people with mugs as old as 2004's model...and mugs that are "non-Disney"...filling up with beverages. I cannot wait till the RFD chip mugs are in full use....just to see the soda thieves standing dumbfounded when the machine won't dispense for them.

(I don't however like the built in feature of the RFD mug...that will only allow for a refill...once every 5 minutes. I guess that's in place to stop people from buying ONE mug...and using it to fill other non-Disney cups)
