Oct. 18, 1913 – Evelyn Venable, the original model for the Columbia Pictures logo and the voice of the Blue Fairy in Disney’s “Pinocchio,” was born in Cincinnati, Oh.
Oct. 18, 1926 – Disney’s Alice Comedy “Alice the Fire Fighter” was released.
Oct. 18, 1927 – Actor George C. Scott, the voice of McLeach in Disney’s 1990 film “The Rescuers Down Under,” was born in Wise, Va.
Oct. 18, 1935 – Actor Peter Boyle was born in Philadelphia, Pa. He would portray Mr. Whittle in Disney’s live-action “The Santa Clause,” and Father Time in both “The Santa Clause 2” and “The Santa Clause 3.” (TV fans would know him as Frank Barone on the comedy series Everybody Loves Raymond.)
Oct. 18, 1946 – Disney’s animated educational film “The Story of Menstruation” was delivered to International Cellucotton Co.
Oct. 18, 1955 – The Mickey Mouse Club aired “Today is Guest Star Day” on ABC-TV.
Oct. 18, 1960 – The Disney film “Ten Who Dared” was released.
Oct. 18, 1964 – The World’s Fair in Flushing, N.Y. (which includes 4 Disney attractions) closed for its 1964 season. It would re-open the following spring for its final season.
Oct. 18, 1964 – Disney’s part-1 of its 3-part TV movie “The Tenderfoot” aired. (Part-2 aired Oct. 25, and part-3 aired Nov. 1, 1964)
Oct. 18, 1965 – Pixar character designer, writer and art director Ralph Eggleston was born in Baton Rouge, La. He directed the Academy Award-winning short “For the Birds,” which premiered alongside “Monsters Inc.,” which he also co-wrote. Eggleston’s credits include “WALL-E,” “Finding Nemo,” and “The Incredibles.”
