How are some things Breaking News?
I was watching the Today show and they were reporting and interrupted with Breaking News...Countney Cox and David Arquette have seperated...How is this news you need to know right away? The Today show is more fluff then news but even the major news channels do the same thing...The news that scrolls across the bottom of the screen will have this information...I just think it's a little much...

I totally agree. With all the things happening in the world, that's what makes the news? Sad. I guess it's a chicken and egg thing. Is that what they show because it's what we want to see? Or do we feed into it because it's what's given to us. It's all about ratings I guess.

I hate to tell them that it was last nights news.....it was all over the internet....LAST NIGHT.
Another Hollywood breakup is nothing new. I agree with all of you!

I'm one who doesn't get the celebrity culture in the U.S. at all. I can't for the life of me figure out who cares about these people and the day-to-day minutae of their pointless, boring lives.
But we have no one but ourselves to blame. Someone is watching this stuff and buying People magazines, otherwise no one would be selling it.

don't ask me how its breaking news...the honest truth is that I have no idea who David Arquette even is  . I hate that he is getting a divorce, but find it to be no more news worthy or tragic than learning about a couple down the street from us who are going through the same thing.

This is not a new phenomenon, but has been happening for over 100 years. It just more prevalent now because of the vast number of media outlets.

Totally agree. I actually think that's true in a lot circumstances. Things that people decry as the downfall of humanity have been happening forever, but we just know a lot more about them today because they're constantly in our face via the 24 hours news cycle.

It almost seems like everyday there is a new show, mostly VH1, MTV, and E!, about stars and their lives? Most don't seem like stars anymore or never really were, which is why I suppose they start these shows so they can get in the public eye. I just don't understand why these peoples lives are so important or interesting.
