Apr. 16, 1889 – Charles Spencer Chaplin, Jr., better known as actor Charlie Chaplin, was born in London England. Chaplin would have a prolific relationship with Walt Disney. He would be caricatured in the 1936 short “Mickey’s Polo Team” and even attended the Hollywood premiere of “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” in 1937. Chaplin would also assist Walt with financial advice in helping determine what kind of proceeds should be earned from the distributor of Snow White.
Apr. 16, 1916 – Artist, author, and illustrator, Eyvind Earle, known for his work on Disney’s “Sleeping Beauty”, was born.
Apr. 16, 1921 – Actor Peter Ustinov, the voice of Prince John in Disney’s 1973 “Robin Hood”, and Captain Edward ‘Blackbeard’ Teach in Disney’s 1968 “Blackbeard Ghosts”, was born in London, England.
Apr. 16, 1924 – Award winning composer Henry Mancini, who wrote the music for Disney’s “The Great Mouse Detective”, was born in Cleveland, Oh.
Apr. 16, 1924 – Animator, painter, art director and writer victor Haboush, was born in Indiana. His animation career at Disney would begin with “Peter Pan” in 1952 (via his former classmate Eyvind Earle) and later included “Toot Whistle Plunk and Bloom,” “Lady and the Tramp,” “Sleeping Beauty,” and “101 Dalmatians.”
Apr. 16, 1928 – Disney’s Oswald the Lucky Rabbit cartoon “Ride’em Plow Boy” was released.
Apr. 16, 1931 – Disney’s Silly Symphony cartoon “Mother Goose Melodies,” was released.
Apr. 16, 1933 – Animator Dick Huemer began work at the Disney Studios. He would go on to animate, direct and write for many feature films and shorts such as “Fantasia,” “the Band Concert,” “Dumbo,” and “Saludos Amigos.”
Apr. 16, 1948 – Disney’s Donald Duck cartoon “Daddy Duck” was released.
Apr. 16, 1958 – The Disney TV show aired “Four Tale on a Mouse.”
