Touring tips for DQ
I know Disney Quest is a "hit or miss" for some people...but I have 2 video game junkies in the family and they insist on going. This will be our firt time in DQ. I know nothing about this place and I need help!
Where should we start? What's not to miss? What's this toy you can make and then buy?
Can you take your camera in this place & take pictures?
Thanks!

Personally, I enjoy DisneyQuest. I have to admit, though, that it was not aged very well. In 1997, the technologies at DQ were fairly cutting-edge. Fast forward 13 years and virtually (pun intended) nothing there has changed. Even so, there are a few "must do's" in my mind.
#1 - Pirates of the Carribbean. IMHO This is the best thing in the building. From the perspective of 2010, you can see how Toy Story Mania is a direct decendent of Pirates. This is a group attraction, and it's a lot of fun - especially if everyone in the room is a part of your party.
#2 - Alien Encounter. This is another group activity and takes some teamwork to successfully complete. It doesn't quite have the same wow factor (from a graphics standpoint) that it did in 1997, but it's still fun.
#3 - Build Your Own Space Mountain. If you're into coasters, this can be a lot of fun. The younger set will enjoy it more. You get to make some choices about designing a roller coaster and then you ride it in a 2-person simulator.
#4 - Riding the Comix. This is a fun, virtual reality supervillan fight sequence. The 8-14 male crowd will love it. Warning - it can be quite a workout and you'll need a cold drink when you're done.
There are a number of other attractions that have a more limited appeal and are based on technology that is fairly common today. Again, it was once cutting edge, but when nothing's been updated, the future has a tendancy to catch up.
There are a ton of regualar video games that you can find in any arcade. There is also a room of vintage video games (Donkey Kong, Pacman, etc). All the video games are free with your admission. If your folks like arcades, they'll think DQ is cool.
I think it's worth the experience at least once, but I wouldn't plan on it holding interest for more than a few hours. We don't go much anymore, now that the boys are grown. Be we have a lot of fond memories from there.
Enjoy.
Steve

Hello, I agree with Fangorn. Our family of older teen boys enjoyed it several times. They could go a long longer then mom. We get the Plus options on the tickets and that make the entrance fee reasonable to us. Mom loves Alien encounter more than Toy Story Mania. http://www.intercot.com/discussion/i...ons/icon10.gif

I'll have to disagree with the Ride the Comix. I really didn't find this much fun - but, different people have different opinions, so...
I do agree, CyberSpace Mountain is a must do!! I did this multiple times. I also enjoyed doing Jungle Cruise, it's quite an arm workout and takes lots of teamwork.
Also make sure to go to the arcade. All of the games are free (well, you don't have to insert a coin free....you had to pay for DQ admission) and it's lots of fun. They have all of the old arcade games, and my parents had a ball playing games they haven't played in years.

We did DQ a few years ago & my DS's (I think they were about 8 & 10 then) loved it! We spent about 6 hours in there! I found most of my info on DQ in the Unoffical Guide, in the "Beyond The Parks" section, there's some detail of most of the attractions.
Explore Zone: Includes - Jungle Cruise, Aladdin's Magic Carpet Ride & our fav - POC
Score Zone: Mighty Ducks Pinball slam - we really liked! Ride the Comix & AlienEncounter - I don't really remember either
Creat Zone: Great for my creative guys! Cyber Space Mountian - a fav of both DS's, Animation Academy & Magic Mirror. Both of my DS's made something we purchased & brought home, one made a music cd & the other a toy from Sid's Toy's - like in Toy Story.
Replay Zone: Skeeball, & Buzz Lightyear's AstroBlasters was a lot of fun!
We did take pics in there - no problem! I don't know that we'd do it again for that price - but I'm so glad we did, we all had a great day discovering & playing together!
