Default Nearest Grocery Store

We are throwing around options....ordering from a grocery delivery service or just taking a taxi to the nearest grocery and making the purchases ourselves. We will be staying at POR. Can anyone tell me where the nearest grocery store is? We don't mind if it is attached to a department store such as Walmart or Target as long as fresh fruit and veggies are available.

The nearest is probably Goodings at Crossroads. It's more expensive than the WinnDixie up the road, but you'd spend more on the taxi to go further.

If you have a rental car, I would suggest going up 192 into Kissimmee. There is, in order of proximity to WDW, a Publix, Target Supercenter, and a Walmart Supercenter. The Publix is pretty good, but pricey. My DW and I used to do all of our grocery shopping at the Supercenter Walamart right next to Medieval Times as they are open 24 hours. Word of warning, that Walmart is one of the top volume Walmarts in the nations due to the tourism so expect long lines no matter what time of day - except maybe before 7 AM.

We will not have a rental car. How expensive are taxi's? Perhaps it would be cheaper in the long run to just order from a grocery delivery service. Any thoughts anyone? If we didn't want to order up apples and bananas it would probably be better to just mail a box as the only other items we want are chips and bottled water. Hmmmm....I will have to give this some more thought. Any opinions will be greatly welcomed.

Once you add in the delivery charges, you're actually pretty close to the Disney Grocery delivery service.

I've found that for the most part, everything is a wash so it often boils down to convenience for me. My time is money, so if I can save an hour or two at the cost of a couple bucks, then that's A-OK with me.

I''ve pretty much done it all, and that's been my experience.

There's a newer Walmart Superstore much closer than the one near Medieval Times. It's on 535 (Apopka-Vineland Road) at Polynesian Isle Drive, one mile south of World Drive (aka SR 536) or three miles south of Hotel Plaza Boulevard. It has a huge grocery department, and is also open 24x7x365.

Personally, I can't imagine wanting to take a taxi to and from a grocery store and spend time wandering the aisles looking for what I want in a store I don't know, versus spending LESS MONEY and ZERO TIME AWAY FROM MY VACATION by ordering a grocery delivery.

It's a simple equation for me. A taxi will cost MUCH more than a $15 or $20 delivery fee ... advantage DELIVERY. Going to the store myself will take time away from my vacation, getting a delivery will take no time away at all (delivery will be made to Bell Services [who will even keep the cold stuff cold for me]), so I don't even need to be present or wait around for the delivery ... advantage DELIVERY.

Again, it's all just my opinion, and your mileage may vary, but I just can't understand spending more money and taking up more time.

We use Garden Grocer every trip and love them! Never would I go through the hassel of going myself and using a taxi! Ugh! I'll be by the pool with a glass of wine while the kids swim at the very least!

We used WeGoShop and loved them, they go to the grocery store you pick and you give them the list of what you want. They will even make a stop at a liquor store for a minimal fee!! Loved them!!
