(Mods, sorry if this post is in the wrong place, please move if necessary!

)
My family and I are going to WDW Dec. 3-8 and we're hoping to take a little time to visit Fort Wilderness while we're there. I've heard that a lot of the campers put up elaborate Christmas decorations in December, and we were thinking about going to see the displays.

But, we've only been to FW once and that was to eat at Trails End. We rode the boat to FW from MK, so we didn't drive around the resort at all, just stayed mostly on the end by the marina.
My questions are: We will have a rental car and will probably drive to FW. Are we allowed to drive through the campground to see the decorations? If not, what do we do with our car and what's the best way to get around? Would we be able to just walk easily?
And also, will there be many decorations up that early in December?
We're WDW veterans and always looking for something new to do on our trips, and I thought this would be a neat way to see the decorations and FW!

Thanks for any advice you can offer!
