Question Nassau - any cool excursions?

We're taking a 3 day cruise there in October. Any cool things to do while we are docked there?

Although it's not listed as a Disney excursion, there's a pirate museum about 3 blocks away from the dock that the mrs and I really enjoyed when we were in Nassau. Heck of alot cheaper than anything that's offered.
"The Dig" at Atlantis was pretty cool. I think it was about $35 or $40 a person plus the r/t cost of a cab... not sure it was worth the money.
I wouldn't waste the time/money doing the 'city tour'. The biggest thing I got out of that was a pretty visceral reminder that Nassau is 8 square blocks of tourist town laid over a 3rd world country.
Several of the more experienced DCL cruisers say that the Nassau stop is a good time to enjoy the facilities on the ship when they're less crowded, and now that I've seen aparts of Nassau I would tend to agree with them. I'd probably still take a quick walk down to the market for some fresh Tortuga Rum Cake.
Enjoy!
Rob

On our first cruise with the kids, my youngest daughter and I took about 2 hours and did some shopping right in downtown. That was good enough for us and we were back on the ship and in the pool for the rest of the time. My oldest daughter and husband did the snorkeling excursion and both had a great time. My son did some kind of scavenger hunt thing with the shopping people. He said they had a blast, he was with my cousin and her sons.

On our second parents only cruise, we took the water taxi to Atlantis, walked around the marina, gambled for all of 20 minutes in the casino and then headed back to the ship. Not such a good time and we should have stayed on the ship.

There are definitely some cool things, like spending the day at the Atlantis in their waterpark, or seeing the dolphins. It can get pretty expensive though and takes up alot of your time their. Have you looked through the excursions listed on the DCL site?

Yes, but nothing really stood out. On past 7 day cruises we've taken a cab and gone to other places not on the excursion list. That is why I've been asking those like you who've been there if there is anything cool out there to do not on the excursion list.

I've heard just shopping and hanging out on the ship (while it is close to empty) is more fun. Plus, my DD (12) was bummed we won't have a day at sea to hang out on the boat (we are on a 3 day).

But, we still thinking it over.

When we went we got a room at Atlantis for the day. I forget how much it was something like $125 I'm not really sure. There were 3 adults and 1 child so it was pretty cheap. It also allowed us access to all of Atlantis plus we had a room to shower and change in. It gave us a small taste of Atlantis and now I know I would go there for a vacation in a heart beat. The water park and the aquarium were incredible.

Atlantis is the only world-class attraction in Nassau.

\Aand while a room for a day or the day pass look expensive, it's much cheaper than planning a specific trip to Atlantis. I should know!

Sorry, from your post, I didn't realize that you were looking for something that wasn't part of the excursion list.

Unfortunately, from my experience, the coolest thing about Nassau was the cruise ship .

Book a room at Comfort Suites. They have exchange privledges with The Atlantis and are right next door. Check in and get wristbands for up to 4 people. Much cheaper than buying day passes per person.

We've done the Blue Lagoon Dolphin Encounter and boy was it amazing! Truly something we'll never forget. They have a deep water experience, a shallow interation, or if you want a Sea Lion Encounter instead. Other than that and Atlantis, I find Nassau lacking in things to do.

We did Atlantis, which is really nice and I would suggest to do it once. Our next cruise, we will stay on the ship...there is so much to do!
