Forwarded emails: SPAM

Hey everyone! Just thought I would share my frustrations with you. You know the little forwarded messages we all get in our emails? The sappy stories asking you to send to a zillion people so you can be rich tomorrow? Well, let this serve as your warning. All anyone has to do is report that little email as spam and ZAP!! you have lost your email account. Now, I know we all get irritated with the little boogers. We read through the nice story, funny quotes, etc. and then get to the part about sending it to everyone in the hemisphere. Please make sure you only forward those to people you KNOW enjoy reading them. And, if you don't enjoy them, instead of reporting someone, usually a friend or close acquaintance or they wouldn't be emailing you in the first place, let people know you don't want to receive that kind of mail. It is very damaging and a real headache to get things straightened out once someone reports spam.

I hate these sorts of emails.
I know the stories are nice and sometimes there are pictures too but anything that asks you to send it on to 10 of your friends is chain mail and I was always taught you should never forward chain mail.
I generally email the person who sent them to me and ask them not to send this sort of message again and explain my reasons. Sometimes they get upset because the emai is sooo cute but I am firm on this.

I also think these emails are a waste of time. I'm a teacher and parents can email me at work. I don't mind if they have questions about their child or something concerning the class, but this year I started getting "spam" mail from some of them. I barely have time to check my email for important, work-related items and now I'm dealing with spam from parents. If I ask them to stop sending it, then I risk offending them so I'm in between a rock and a hard place. Next year, I think I'll include a nicely worded message about spam in my welcome letter and try to head this off before it starts.

The only chain mail I give is the ones that tell you to give this to 10 people that you love and such. I hate the horror ones.

You might be able to set up filters to eliminate forwarded emails.

People seem to take a lot of the forwarded email as truth without ever looking into it. When I receive these kinds of email, I'll delete it. My in-laws don't forward it to me anymore since every time they did, I'd research it and send them correct information.

If you TRULY loved those folks, you wouldn't clog their inbox with forwarded email spam!

Yeah, the chain mail ones are the worst. Most of the time the message is nice, about sisterhood, friendship, etc. but I know who my friends are without participating in those. Even the slideshows, etc. just seem to be so redundant after a while. Fortunately there are only a couple of people that send these to me, so it's not that big of an issue to deal with.

I especially love some of my *ahem* older relatives, who forward everything to everyone. I cannot count how many times my uncle has sent out private letters between him and his children to every single person in his address book, no matter how many times we've talked to him about it. My whole family eventually had to get new e-mail addresses and not tell him them!

Well, I do only send them to people who like them. :]
