Default Park Hopper Option

If we purchase tickets without the Park Hopper Option, what happens if we try to visit two parks on the same day? Would this use up two days on our ticket?

Nope, you must have the park hopper option to get into two parks in one day. The computer will not allow you entrance at the gate at the second park.

I do believe the old version did that, but not the new tickets.

We always park hop, and feel that it is the best way to see all the parks. If you have the option, you can visit another park if the park you are at gets crowded, or you've done all you wanted to see!

If money is an issue, and you just want to see the parks, the base plan is EXTREMELY nice, as it makes touring WDW quite a bit more affordable.

It is all based on what you want to pay and how you want to tour.

I do find it strange they would not let you in if you went to a 2nd park without a hopper option and not just let you use a 2nd day on your ticket if that's what you want to do. Unless they are trying to say that it's better to buy the hopper option then to use 2 days on your tickets in one day.

I think it has to do with how much extra days cost compared to the park hopper option. The park hopper option cost much more than adding an extra day to your ticket. Why would anyone pay for park hopping if they could just add an extra day or two for a few dollars?

The only way I see that you can do 2 parks in 1 day without having park hopping tickets is to buy 2 single day tickets for each park you want to visit. Or have a mutl-day ticket for 1 park and then purchase a single day ticket for the other park. And no one wants to do that because it cost more than the park hopper option.

Oh yeah I forgot how cheap it was to say go from 4 days to 8 days on a ticket (only $12) but to add the hopper option would cost an extra $50 per ticket.

I am sure Disney has researched this issue from front to back and have the best way to get the maximum dollar from your wallet all figured out. Not only does the ticket structure lure you into spending more money to get what you want but the way they stagger park closing hours does the same thing.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Thinking back to our last trip, we rarely park-hopped, if at all. In buying tickets this time, I thought I might be able to avoid the cost of the Park Hopper option by buying extra days on our tickets. My hope was that Disney would let you just use an additional day on the ticket when you don't have the Park Hopper option but still wanted to do more than one park in a day. Adding even several extra days to a ticket is much cheaper than adding the Park Hopper option.

Also, if the allowed using additional 'days' on one day then the $12 would go up to match the hopper at a minimum. They are going to get their revenue.

The Park Hopper is a deal really. We have days like MK first thing, then Epcot, then leave Epcot and walk to DHS, then return to Epcot and then monorail back to MK (5 entrances or 5 days). Then others like, AK 1st half, DHS 2nd half, MK evening (3 entrances). It would be really complicated to buy tickets without the PH option.

Something else to consider...and someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

You don't have to add the park hopper option now. Then when you get there and you decide you want to park hop, you can add that on to your ticket at that time. That way you haven't spent the money on until you see if you are really going to use it.

The park hopper is an option we always choose. Simply because we like to have options. Its nice to be able to make an ADR in any park, not simply the park you are at in the morning. Very rarely do we not hop. We pretty much always start the day in one park., break at our resort in the afternoon, and dinner is at another park in the evening, many times in Epcot. Yes, it costs more per ticket, but having flexibility is priceless to us.
