Default Southwest Credit

I booked the flights for my husband and some coworkers for a business trip a couple of weeks ago and one of the guys who was supposed to go has now notified DH he won't be able to go. I booked them on SW. Can I cancel his ticket and get a credit for it and use it towards our tickets? He didn't pay for the ticket it was the company who paid for it that my DH is part owner of and it was on the business credit card.

That's a tough situation that I think you need to call SWA to get the answer on. I could speculate, but don't know for sure. They don't issue credits to the card but to the person. However, I'm pretty certain that person can give their voucher to another person. So, call SWA and they're great at helping out.

Southwest credits are usually for the reservation. Basially, you would get a "credit" and when you go to use it, you enter the reservation number of the original booking and they apply that money towards the new flight.

That's how it has worked for me. Unless you booked an unrestricted ticket, you get a credit, not a refund.

So as long as I have the reservation I can use the credit? What if you have 2 credits with 2 different reservation numbers?

I think you can apply up to three...

Remember, the credit expires based ont he original booking date, not the flight date, or the date you cancel.

We always book one way tickets with SW so as to take advantage of the abililty to use a ding and not lose a possibly lower price on the other half of the flight.

Short answer to the original question - Yes.

you may use up to three credits from previous reservations to pay for a new reservation. To use a credit, you have to know the confirmation number and the name on the credit card used to buy the original ticket. If you have that information, and in your scenario you would, you can easily apply the funds to a new reservation.

I do it all the time.
