Tigerinvestigator's Christmas 07 Trip Departure Day 1
The Cast:
Me- 34yr old with too many trips to count.
DW- Works to support our WDW habit.
DD10- Expert w/more than 13 trips to WDW.
DD6- Fear of thrill rides and that I will make her ride them.
DD3- My baby who fears absolutely nothing!
PLOT: Surprising the kids for Christmas. First Surprise trip ever.
Departure Day 1
Friday Dec 14 2007
Awoke at 6am with great anticipation. One week earlier I had put a large package under our Christmas tree. The large box contained a small DVD that I had recorded a week earlier in my office. My DW and I woke our children and told them that they could open the large present as an early Christmas present for being good. They tore into the gift, certain that it was a Wii. Imagine their shock, surprise, and great dissappointment when they found a small DVD in the box. My DD10 placed the DVD in our player and watched as I told my family that there would be no presents under the tree this year and that we would be buying a less fortunate family gifts for Christmas so that we would know the joy of giving (which we did and it was such a wonderful experience for our kids). I then told them that I would be taking them on a little trip to the mountains. We usually spend a few days a year in Gatlinburg or the Ozarks so my kids bought it hook line and sinker. The dissappointment on their faces was too much as I announced on the video that it would not be the Smoky mts or the Ozark mts but rather the Disney mts. "You know Splash Space and Big Thunder....". It took a minute to sink in and then their was complete chaos in the living room. They were even more excited when I told them on DVD that the best part was we were leaving TODAY! I must say that I know we could not have given them a better Christmas gift. We departed cold dreary Northwest Tennessee and made our way slowly into Mississippi and Alabama, arriving in Troy Alabama around Midnight. The kids had finally wound down and were asleep before we reached the hotel. I and my DW were wide awake with anticipation of the next day's arrival at WDW.

Well it's about time you told this story. I've been waiting to hear all about it and if the start of Day one is any indication, this trip is going to be a Fairy Tale come true.

Congrats on pulling off your surprise so completely!! I would think that your oldest daughters will remember that as their best Christmas present ever for the rest of their lives!! Thanks for sharing the story with us.
