Hiway Help Needed
We will be leaving in one week for WDW! We will be driving in from the north, traveling south on I-75 and then on to the Florida Turnpike. I hear there is a road that you can take that will bring you in on the west site of the resort, thus avoiding I-4. We will be spending the first night off-site on the southwest side of the resort. Looking at the map, it looks like the exit off the turnpike is Exit 289. Is that correct? Are the any signs that let you know? I can't tell on the map what the name/number of the road is, so I am not sure what to look for. Any help?

You're talking about 429. It's actually exit number 267. You'll head south on 429 to exit 8 which is Hartzog Road and Disney World.
The exit splits, you'll stay to the left for WDW.
This brings you to Western Way which will bring you onto Disney property between
Coronado Springs and Blizzard Beach. Please watch your speed here, it starts out at 45 mph then drops to 35.
Where exactly are you staying your first night? You can also use 429 to get to 192.

Erm, I actually think she is referring to Osceola Parkway. It will literally dead end inside of Disney Property, at AKL (but she'll pass Pop Century on the right first, followed by ramps leading to other resort areas). The speed limit for Osceola is 55-60, dropping to 50 once you reach Disney Property.
If you know where you are staying, I can tell you how to get there from Osceola, which also connects to 192. That's how I always came when I drove from Fort Lauderdale (Turnpike to Osceola).

The first night we will be staying at the Holiday Inn Express, Maingate West. It looks like we could take 429, or we could catch 27 and then come in on 192. Any thoughts on which way is best?

You can hit US27 at exit 289 on the Turnpike. It won't be faster, but you will avoid most tolls. Go east on 192 when you hit it.

Not if they're coming down 75 to the Turnpike - it'll be 429. Osceola Parkway comes in on the east side of property.
And you can take 429 to 192 - I would not recommend taking 27. Yes, you'll avoid the tolls but the towns that you'll go thru on 27 have increased in size resulting in more traffic, lights, et. IMO, it's just not worth the few extra bucks that you'll save tolls.
If the Holiday Inn you're staying at has a Black Lake Road address, you'll turn left onto 192. If it's got a different address either post it here or PM me and I'll help you out.

I just wanted to pipe in here and say we used to use the Osceola Parkway exit, but after Piglet822 (Jeanne) gave us the new directions using 429, we were able to shave a good 1/2 hr off our transit time. I also travel from the north using I75 and the Turnpike. As an added tip, it's exit 267A -- stay to the right at this exit. (stay to the left at exit 8 off 429--like Jeanne says).
