Room Upgrade?

I'm going to be in Disney from Sept 2-7. I'm going during the free dining. We are staying at the all star sports. I called today to upgrade to the Saratoga Springs. I was told that they were booked solid for the time frame that we were going.
We really want to change our resort. I know that it is going to cost a lot more but we are willing to pay it. After you book the free dining are you not allowed to upgrade? I called to make a new reservation and I was told that they had rooms at the SS. Any advice on how to get SSR?

As long as that resort still has room left on that promotion I think you still should be able to move. Not all CM's know this so you might need to call back to get a different one who knows how to do it. It is tricky because the promotion has ended. If that doesn't work ask to speak to Guest Services. They should know how to do it.

I also think that SSR itself is booked up because Disney has been moving guests from other resorts into it. I heard before that they were offering guests at Pop a chance to move there or OKW. And now they are moving AKL guests to it. That's probably why you can't get into it.

Another poster on Intercot suggested that if you want to switch to a "full" resort to call around 44/45 days out (in the morning.) Because that is when the full payment is due, and some people may have decided to not go, some rooms may open up within the free dining promotion. Good luck!

I woiuld call again and talk to another cm or ask for the cm/manager because I think you can change resorts.

AS someone said, I would guess it is from the moving people from other resorts to Saratoga, including the full reservations of the popular AKL.

But of course, there are also only limited packages sold on the DDP. When you were asking to switch, perhaps they were telling you that the DDP slots were all full for that hotel, which I would not be in the least surprised if it were the case.

Your trip starts in the middle of the Labor Day holiday weekend, when all the resorts (but especially DVC) tend to be busier. Have you tried upgrading to a non-DVC resort or a moderate? When using any type of promotion or discount, flexibility is the key!

Once the special, aka free dining in this case, can not be booked, you can not change your resort with that discount since the discount is no longer available. I have tried many a times in the past.

I'm afraid that this is not true. We did change several times last year, after the free dining promo had expired. We switched resorts, and maintained our free dining. We even kept the same confirmation #. We never had a problem. The CM simply needs to speak with someone in Guest Services, and providing there are rooms available, you are able to switch. Not every CM knows this though, and if they aren't able to help you, you need to speak with someone in Guest Services. Also, the best time to do any changes is right at the 44 or 43 day mark, when all of the reservations that have not been paid for entirely go back in the system. Keep trying, you will have luck. Even if not at SSR~for whatever reason~perhaps at another resort you'd enjoy more. Have a lovely trip!
