Other campgrounds near WDW?

Don't know if I'm "allowed" to post this question in what looks like a Ft. Wilderness forum... but does anyone stay at a campground with RV hookups off-site? If so, where? How far is it from WDW? Ft. Wilderness just seems so expensive...
We are not yet RV owners but are thinking of it and I'm researching to see what is the most budget-wise way to do this...

I haven't been on this forum too long, but from what I have read, it is comparable in price to other campgrounds in and around the Orlando area. A couple points to keep in mind: Right off the bat you save close to $10/day in parking (I think it is 8 or 9), you get in an hour earlier then people staying off site, you don't have to get up as early as people staying off site.

I'm thinking staying on site might be a bit overwhelming for some people though. My GF says we are doing this one time....for the kids. She hates commercialism and having it pushed on our family if you know what I mean. Staying on site I'm thinking is going to be 24-7 'magic' = 'commercialism'

I agree that Ft. Wilderness is pricey, but there are perks that should be considered as well as not having to pay for parking at the theme parks as already pointed out. The two big perks that keep us staying there are the extra magic hours and free package delivery to the Disney campground (or Disney hotel). Every day one of the parks opens one hour early, or stays open up to three hours later for resort guests only. We regularly take advantage of both. It's also a very nice campground. As long as those perks are still available, we will continue to stay at Ft. Wilderness because to us it's worth the extra cost.

For us when we stay the campground, we feel it is far less if at all comercialism compared to the other on site resorts. It really is a relaxing non disney atmosphere. there are so many befits staying on site rather than staying off, one is the transportation to and from the parks available to you when staying here. If you have to go to your vehicle and then back to the campground off site then come back and then to the parks that is so much waited park time. Also having to pay for parking each day too to think about. They have internal buses thoughout the campground too to get from place to place. If you go on off season it can be a savings too. There is alot to do on site with evening movies, pools, clean shower and laundry facilites. Plus you can go though out WDW property and just see what is there. If it is riding the Monorail, to shopping at DTD you do not even have to go to the parks if you do not want to. Let me tell you quality of the campground has the highest ratings in all of the other campgrounds thoughout the USA if not the World. Once you go here you will see why it is far superior to others in the area and not question yourself why did I go here! It is truly an experice unto its self.

Agree with all the points made above. I could not camp around Disney and it not be FW. We have met people over the years that were just staying at the campground because it was so nice and offered so much to do. These folks were not there to go to the parks, just to stay at FW.

FW is not comparable to any other campgrounds.It is really in a league all its own.however if budget requires a lower price that is understandable.I know of a campground that is convienent for not being on property,and more resonable priced than the pricey KOA's in the area.It is called Themeworld campground 863-424-8362 it is about $31.00 a night,and about 9 miles away.
