Default BLT renting points...access to Top of the World?

I am renting points to stay at BLT. One of the reasons I selected this resort was for the Top of the World access. I just read another thread where someone said "I am not sure if you can access this if you are renting points and not an actual DVC member". This would really be a HUGE disappointment.
Does anyone know the scoop on this?
    Thanks for any information.

You have to be a DVC member to access the lounge. Renting points or paying guests are not allowed. You have to show your DVC card and are then escorted to the elevator that services the lounge. At least this was our experience when we stayed there last August. We are not DVC owners and were not granted access to the lounge because we were not DVC owners.

Thanks for the info. I guess I deserve this since I didn't check into this first but I just never thought to ask such a question. This was the main reason I chose BLT. We are going for my daughter's birthday and her favorite thing is watching Wishes. I thought it would be so cool for her to watch it from the Top of World.

I'm sorry this is a disappointment. There is a nice Wishes viewing area outside the 4th fl of the CR. There are seats and the sound system is quite nice. Get there a bit early so you will be able to get a seat. This is one alternative to watching Wishes from the Top Of The Lounge.

I actually preferred the 4th floor viewing area (which by the way is the 5th floor of the BLT ) and the bridge between BLT and the CR. The area outside the lounge is nice, but it's a little breezier up there and the height made me feel a bit removed from the festivities. I felt like we were more "in it" on the 4th floor landing.

Have to agree. Before we owned at BLT (actually before BLT was built) we were CR regulars. I remember once watching a MNSSHP fireworks from the 4th fl viewing area and totally felt like I was right inside the park.

    Default When did this change?

We stayed on rented points in March 2010 and went up there whenever we wanted.

    Default Confirm?

Hi all - we just rented points for next April. I asked the guy (a reseller) if we could access the lounge and he said yes.

This post shows different experiences for different people - maybe it depends on the crowd, etc.

Can anyone offer any insight? I will be supremely ticked off - I appreciate the 4th floor fireworks area as great (and will prob do fireworks there) but if we don't have access to the bar/food?!? I know all about Cali Grill and we will make use of it, etc. but clearly, we aren't getting the same benefit and.... well,

Looks like things have changed, maybe demand was less than anticipated... This is direct from the DVC Member Website:

    Top of the World Lounge
Top of the World Lounge is a 77-seat full-service bar offering beverages and light appetizers, and is located on the 16th floor of Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort. Next to the lounge is an observation deck offering unparalleled views of Magic Kingdom® Park. The regular operating hours for the lounge and deck are from 5:00 p.m.-midnight daily (operating hours, access guidelines, and menu are subject to change without notice).

Due to anticipated high demand for this location, access is available only to Disney Vacation Club Members who are staying at Bay Lake Tower using their Membership (Vacation Points or cash), guests staying in the room with that Member, and guests who are staying in a room reserved by a DVC Member with Vacation Points. Access is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
That bolded part is new I believe,I remember this topic coming up a few times...

Another great option is the Pirates and Pals cruise.

We have BLT booked from Dec 31st to Jan 11th. I can't wait to see the New year's Eve fireworks from the Top of the World. Anyone else done this yet?

    WELCOME TO INTERCOT DVC DAD!!!

Also, thanks to DisneyRox!! Lower demand or perhaps more explicit guidance on the usage...either is ok for me!! I will feel better for the coming 7 months knowing we'll be up there!!

    yippee!!

Thanks for the welcome words. Nice change of pace from the other DIS(ney)BOARD I was on earleir (not mentioning any names).

This must have been a very recent change, as a friend of mine just came back in July and was checked for his DVC membership every time he went.

Hopefully it won't be a zoo on New years eve.

Default BLT - Access to Top of the World

Hi all - checking in for any recent experiences at the Top of the World at BLT. We have rented points and booked BLT for April.

We are a group of 5 adults and 4 kids with plans to use the facilities...

We obviously don't have a DVC membership card but will be staying there... my expectation is that we can get in with no problem but previous posts indicate varying anecdotes...

I would sincerely appreciate recollections on recent exeriences getting in?

    Thanks!!

You will be asked to show a blue DVC membership card to access the lounge if "DVC member" is not printed on your key to the world card. We rented points at BLT, but did not have a membership card so we could not go up to the lounge.

Update: I am staying at Bay Lake Tower right now. We thought we could not go up to the Top of the World club because of replies to this and another thread that said you MUST be a DVC member and show your DVC membership card for access. We didn't even try the first few days. Today while at the concierge desk we heard a family ask this very question: "we are renting points from a DVC member can we go up to the Top of The World?" Answer: YES, as long as your room key says DVC on it you can go up and all rooms booked on points say DVC on them. Yay!
We went up this evening. It was really lovely. The view was spectacular! And, there were only 2 other people in the whole place.
Good luck to future BLT point renters!

Your key says DVC on it??? Funny, they stopped printing DVC on the key cards last year... My October room key didn't have DVC on it, and many others I know didn't have DVC printed on it... Weird LOL...

Glad you got to visit the lounge... it really is nothing special... Just another lounge to relax in... The place has been dead any time I visited up there..

TRICIA JONES: I heard that you were going to propose to Brandi Svenning at some theme park. When are men going to learn that women want ROMANCE, not Mr. Toad's Wild Ride...

BRODIE: Hey, now, be fair. EVERYONE wants Mr. Toad's Wild Ride.

My resort key had DVC printed on it. So did many others as they asked to see the card key for access.
As for "nothing special" I thought the view was beautiful. That's really what I was interested in.

Thanks Julie! We go in 38 days and I am banking on being able to go up....but trying to manage my expectations so I am not disappointed either.

Your news is very good! And having it not be crowded will be a welcome respite I am sure.

Thanks so much. I will post my experience when we return too!
