Disneyland Resort Internally Announces Plans to Re-Open Disney California Adventure

The Disneyland Resort has internally announced plans to re-open Disney California Adventure park under significantly modified/reduced operations:

Currently planned to begin mid-March, {Disney California Adventure park} will debut an all-new, limited-time ticketed experience, focused on our world-famous food and beverage offerings from around the resort, the latest merchandise and unique, carefully crafted entertainment experiences…all to be offered multiple days a week. With limited capacity and enhanced health and safety measures in place, Guests once again will get to step into a magical Disney environment — an environment that will provide memorable and fun experiences our Guests are craving.

It was also stated in the announcement that the re-opening of Buena Vista Street brought ~ 1,000 Cast Member back to work.

First - it's great that 1000 cast members get back to work. I'm very happy about that.

Second - This just shows the idiocy of the COVID rules. Essentially we can operate a food festival but not a "theme park". Either it's safe or it's not safe.

If there had been a shred of consistency about any of this from day one or at least close to day one - it might be easier for people to swallow. But this arbitrary enforce this rule here, don't enforce it there, politicians can dine and do things you can't do etc. is driving Americans like me crazy.

Look, if it's safe enough to open as a food fest, it's safe enough to open with rides under the same precautions and limited capacity.

This is the way.

I'm hypothesizing that the layout is easier for them to operate with new kiosks and the socially distanced entertainment. I think Disneyland park might be a bit more cramped to try to set up the kiosks and spread out the entertainment. All of their "festivals" have been at California Adventure, so they probably also had essentially some blueprints done for how to lay things out.

It is also rumoured (but not yet announced) that it will be the full park as the hard ticket and when that occurs Main Street USA will re-open to operate as the new extension of Downtown Disney.

I wouldn't blame it all on politicians. It's been interesting as a fan of multiple college teams (we've been a lot of places) to see how rules have been enforced. For example, in Utah, they're allowing fans in to Utah Jazz games on a limited basis, and have held other indoor events, but BYU isn't allowing any fans in to college basketball games at the Marriott Center, and they have one of the largest indoor arenas in the country.

Here at Virginia Tech, they're allowing some fans in, but yet we're still under the statewide rule that prohibits groups of larger than 10 people, but religious meetings (which are known spreaders) are exempt?

I agree, either it's dangerous or it isn't. But I think a lot of the decisions made are made more based on optics than science.

I forgot to quote John's post in my last reply. My "I hear ya" was in response to his post.

As Cast Members begin to receive their return to work dates, more details have been internally announced regarding the hard ticket event.

The event will include Food and Beverage operation of the existing locations in Buena Vista Street, Cars Land, Pacific Wharf, Pixar Pier and Grizzly Peak. It is not clear if Hollywoodland will be operating or not, the first half of the land was operating as part of Buena Vista Street previously so it is not clear if it is being included in that description or if it will not be part of this event.

In addition to the existing food and beverage locations, Six "Marketplace" locations will be opened along the 'parade route'.


Further details on the entertainment have not been announced at this time.
