    Default Toll Roads

Can you still pay cash at toll booths from MCO to Disney and all other tolls booths in the area?

Depending on where you are going, some roads are cashless. Since I only go through the sunpass lanes, I'm not sure which roads don't have cash options on your route are cashless. Hopefully, someone will come along soon to answer your specific question.

In the past, I've gotten a disposable Sunpass scanner and set up a Sunpass account so I wouldn't have to worry about cashless tolls.

What is a disposable Sunpass and where do I get one? I have a transponder here in Mass. but it doesn't work in FL.

Note that more and more FL roads are accepting EZ Pass. I was in Florida over the Christmas holidays with my own car from MA (equipped with EZ Pass) and I only went through 2 tollbooths that didn't take EZ Pass--both were cashless and I received a bill in the mail about a month later.

When I'm in a rental, I just rely on the rental company to bill me. One time I tried to pay cash and my rental company still billed me, so I determined it wasn't worth it.

I believe you can get at temporary Sunpass at Publix.

I purchased one from a vending machine at the Florida Welcome Centre and the other I ordered directly from SunPass.com. They only cost $5 and are only good in one vehicle. Really easy to set up and add money to. There is also the SunPass app that you can use to track almost real time usage.

This is true. We used to have both our Massachusetts and Florida transponders in our cars but we removed the Massachusetts ones not too long ago as I feared being charged by both systems.

We also live in the northeast and use EZ Pass for all our travels through PA, NJ, NY, etc. I didn't realize that EZ Pass might actually be working its way all the way to Florida finally. That would be awesome.

For years, though, we've had our own Sunpass account and transponder (got it through the Sunpass web site), and we basically use it exactly the same way we do EZ Pass. It's just when we get our rental car, we open the iPad, log into the Sunpass site, register the rental car - and we are good to go for the trip.

But I also know folks who use the disposable ones.

I think the main roads between the Orlando Airport and Disney are still cash-able. But we've been to south Florida and the Tampa area where they have some cashless roads. I'll have to look closer at where they're accepting EZ Pass. That would be ideal. Thanks for that info!

You can usually find them in the vending machines at the first rest stop inside the Florida State line on major freeways. Seriously. It is easy to set up payment on your smart phone with a credit card.

There is a federal regulation rolling out where all toll road systems have to be able to work on the same system. If you have a newer sunpass or EZ pass, it will work at most toll roads now. There are still a few that haven't been upgraded yet but should be soon. The easiest fix though, is to put the license plate number for the car you are driving on your sunpass or ezpass account and it will find your account and charge it when it scans the license plate in when you drive through if the sunpass or ezpass doesn't pick up or work. You can put rental car license plates on your account temporarily. We do this every time we go somewhere and either our sunpass scans or they link to our account using the license plate number. I have never been billed by a toll company or rental car company afterwards since all tolls were paid from my account.

I would suggest avoiding I4 at all costs if possible. I like using 417 from the airport and yes, you can use cash on 417 (and also 528)
