    Default Illuminations Reflections of Earth...

Days are numbered... It isn't if this is being replaced, but when... Work has begun on the new show... But the new components are anyone's guess... Rumored to include drones, lasers, fireworks, water screens... And possibly saying goodbye to the torches...

I do love Reflections of Earth and would be sad to see it go... But it has run for a very long time, and replacements are inevitable... Just hope the replacement is just as good, or better, than Illuminations... At least the RoE music will live on in my collection...

Rumor currently: an interim show will debut until the new official show is ready...
Son of Jor-El.. Kneel before Zod...

TRICIA JONES: I heard that you were going to propose to Brandi Svenning at some theme park. When are men going to learn that women want ROMANCE, not Mr. Toad's Wild Ride...

BRODIE: Hey, now, be fair. EVERYONE wants Mr. Toad's Wild Ride.

Guess I'd better see it in October as well if it hasn't been retired by then. I love the music...

What's the point of an interim show? Why not run Illuminations until the new show is ready?

I thought the same thing. I can understand a bit of down time so they can switch out the old show for the new one, but why not just run Illuminations until then? It's a great show, but it is getting a bit "long in the tooth". Drones would be cool though...

Not even a rumored date for this rumor?! Wouldn't be related to the fact that they are only offering the Frozen Dessert party packages (which includes a viewing spot for Illuminations) out through then end of August??

It sounds like there will be a lot of construction/destruction in and on the lake itself, so the 'interim' show may not use the lake as much, if at all. I expect mist lighting and such to be part of the new show - much like Rivers of Light - so there will need to be the apparatus installed for the mist screens, as well as the electrical and projectors for the displays.

I will definitely miss Illuminations, but will not 'bash' any new show until after I see it....

The music is epic to me... Classic.... I can listen to the full 1 hour Illuminations loop, which includes the preshow music around the lagoon 30 minutes before show time... Then the show, then the Tapestry of Nations/Dreams music... That was before Disney decided night time fireworks shows and parades must feature Disney stars tween pop music...

Marketing... to say LOOK NEW SHOW, COME TO EPCOT!!!

This also doesn't mean an interim show is happening... A credible source said that was the plan, and even recently was still in the works... Plans change... We'll see

From what I understand, no... Rumored date for new show would be for the 50th so we are looking at 2020/2021... But I also heard sometime in 2019.... We'll have to wait for the announcement...

    Cool

Illuminations is my all time favorite nighttime entertainment at WDW and I will sorely miss it. But it's been around for a very long time and needs to change.

For me, the elements that make the show so powerful are:
    1) the way the "show" begins, long before the fireworks start, with the torch lighting and the pre-show music.
    2) the music. I too, have the entire hour-long music loop (preshow, ROE, Tapestry of Nations/Dreams post-show) on my playlist. For me, the music is the heart of the show with the fireworks being merely an enhancement to the music. It's the music that sets the stage, taps into a number of different emotions and sends you off into the night joyously dancing.
    3) the inclusivity of the event. All of World Showcase is involved; it can be experienced anywhere around the lagoon. You don't go to a theater, but instead the show creates a community of everyone wherever they are in WS.

My hope is that they will maintain some of these key elements with any replacement. I'd love for a new show to include some of the existing music as well as elements of the best parade ever - Tapestry of Nations/Dreams. I'm thinking drones acting as puppeteers for the giant puppets from that parade. And I'll be disappointed if the torches go away.

What sets Illuminations apart from other Disney nighttime entertainment is that it's NOT a series of water screen projections of Disney animated characters, but a more sophistacated, abstract show that uses music and light to set a mood, tap into our emotions and tell a story.

I hope the replacement does that as well. But I fear Disney will decide that current audiences can't handle abstract or sophistacated and we'll get yet another mediocre projection based Disney clip show. I so want to be wrong on this.

I agree that Illuminations needs to be updated and hope the new nighttime show will be just as powerful. With Wishes gone and Illuminations leaving and no nighttime parade at MK, it is bittersweet for us. We went to WDW for many years with my mother in law and meeting at WDW was a highlight for us and the girls. Now that grandma is no longer alive, losing these traditions are sad because they were shared with her and give us special memories of the good times we had with her. I enjoy some of the changes at WDW but have been disappointed in the direction of nighttime productions and parades. Especially no nighttime parade at MK.

I can't say Illuminations was one of my favorites, but it was for many people that I took there. I agree that it was very captivating and moving. I feel like the new show in AK is very lackluster and doesn't move me the same. Even though Illuminations has been running for a long time, I am afraid its replacement will be like the show at AK. I would rather keep Illuminations.

Interim show originally was supposed to debut this year... And still may... The interim show is still in the plans, just not sure when they are looking to debut it...

You never know for sure, but it seems they are much more limited with what they can do at the Animal Kingdom than what they can do at EPCOT. I don't think they get involved with any high level of fireworks at AK due to the animals living there. I have to think there will still be fireworks in the replacement show at EPCOT, and for us - the lack of fireworks is the biggest difference at Rivers Of Light.
