Default ‘Ohana review! Five stars from a first-timer

My husband and I are at ‘Ohana last night. It was my third dinner there but his first (we had breakfast there on a trip a few years ago and he was sad there is no Stirch at dinner!). We had 6:55 ADR but even after checking in early we still weren’t called until 7:15. We just killed time with a Lapu Lapu!

Our table was a window side two top overlooking the Volcano pool and a view of the Castle! I was thrilled and Husband was impressed, he said it reminded him of our cruise as we would often sit next to the window on our honeymoon and look out at the sea. We started with our bread and salad and ordered some drinks - a beer for me and a Walk the Plank for him. Our server was Cousin Edward and he was very good all evening. We nibbled at the salad and bread as I knew they were sucker bets and saved ourselves for the main event.

The platter of veggies, noodles, dumplings and wings came next and we served ourselves. The platter was piled high and we enjoyed everything on it. Chicken skewers cane next, we grill chicken thighs at home so we liked this but I know many prefer white meat. It was juicy and well seasoned. Then we waited and waited for more meat. The other tables around us hadn’t been visited with steak and shrimp yet, either. It wasn’t busy in there and the grill was churning out skewers, we were a little confused. Cousin Wd came by to ask if we needed more of anything and we asked for the steak and shrimp. He was surprised we hadn’t gotten any yet and quickly brought us some himself. The steak was cooked perfectly for our liking, medium, and the shrimp was ok. I don’t like peeling shrimp so that’s why it’s not high on my list.

All that was left after that was dessert, and well, where could that ever go wrong??! It was so good as always and my husband wanted to drink the rest of the caramel sauce out of the cup!

We settled up but weren’t ready to leave the resort yet. Husband needed to walk around a little to digest, lol! So we wandered down to the beach and got lucky with a great spot to watch Happily ever After. What a great show!! I haven’t seen it yet in the park, and it was so good even from the beach! It was a wonderful way to end our dinner and some lovely Disney magic on a non-Disney trip.

I had been excited for Husband to try this dinner and talked it up. A lot. I’m really happy he enjoyed it so much and now he gets why his coworkers at the show he’s doing down here this week were so jealous he was going without them. A five star review from a guy who is growing to appreciate Disney and is still skeptical. I think I have brought him around with this one. Tomorrow we hit Cali Grill, so if that doesn’t seal the deal, I don’t know what will.

Great review !! We will be there at the end of June but that is not soon enough !! Reading over your words made me hungry and jealous of your table location. We were there last September and sat near the window, enough so, to see the fireworks over the castle ....

'Ohana is always a first night restaurant for our family. We even have booked it twice for our trip later this month. We might not be able fit onto the plane on the flight home (haha).

We’re going for the first time in August. We couldn’t get a table when we went last time so I am REALLY excited about this.

More so after reading this review!

Thanks for the review. I am also a very big fan of dinner at 'OHana. We went there for dinner a few years ago on a day that we were spending at Magic Kingdom. My kids were young, so I was torn about doing the Character Breakfast vs. Dinner. I am so happy we chose the dinner. The food was so good. The dessert is truly one of the best I've at at Disney World. And the kids LOVED the coconut broom races. It was something different than just meeting characters. It is also a very lovely resort to walk around at night, when you want to "walk off" some of your dinner!

How Asian is the meal? I do not like Asian Cuisine and my daughter is also not fond of it. My son can be hit or miss. From what I have seen regarding this establishment is that it looks very Asian. I don't want to go to a place and play the food costs that Disney charges for a meal I won't enjoy. Thanks!

Do you like meat? Chicken, steak, shrimp, sticky wings (the only real "Asian" about them might be the sesame seeds!!), salad, bread pudding? OK, maybe the pot stickers might be considered 'Asian,' and possibly the noodles, but that would be a stretch....

The meats are grilled/smoked on an open fire and are NOT teriyaki seasoned. Just a smoky goodness.

You should have PLENTY to eat that would satisfy your cravings and little that does not.

Well, the meat I think I can make it past the marinades. The appetizers were more of the concern since except for my wife who is Jewish and grew up with Christmas Day being a full Chinese meal, my family is not a fan of Chinese/Asian cuisine. I am not a fan of wasting food so I would hate to have them bring the appetizers to our table and nothing in it be eaten. And since we are paying a premium to eat there, I want to make sure we aren't getting ourselves into a situation where we are either not going to eat the food or force it down to "get our money's worth" and not enjoy it. It is basically getting a better idea the way it is made so we aren't surprised when it is plated in front of us.

I don't think it tastes much like Asian food at all. There are similarities, of course, but not what I'd ever compare to Asian food .... it's just a mix of things Pacific Islander ... . I feel as though you will be fine ...
