Oh wow! That is an interesting development ... I wonder how that will work what will be available via Open Table vs Disney.

Several of the third-party operated restaurants have been on Open Table for a while now (much of Disney Springs) and there haven't been any reports of shortages out of either system.

Could be interesting though as a few of these locations are likely more popular than what has previously been available.

Could also be a new planning strategy to make sure you check both systems.

The few articles I've read have suggested that Open Table reservations will be available at something like 30 days out. This shouldn't cause problems with those who are booking through Disney. You will still have plenty of time to book before Open Table could shut you out of these locations.

One thing I read that I did have some concerns about is that it appears Open Table will not require a credit card hold or any type of cancellation fee. Would be easy for guests to hoard multiple reservations "just incase". Open Table could always fix this if it becomes an issue. As of now with the limited restaurants participating in Open Table it probably won't be a problem, but if all of Disney's 's restaurants eventually follow then I can see it becoming an issue.

These nine restaurants generally always have availability. The exception being Kona for breakfast. In fact, I just checked and all 9 of them have availability for dinner tonight - the Friday before Christmas. I doubt that this will have much effect on availability through Disney - at least for this set of places. If it does turn out that Open Table won't get openings until the 30 day mark, I don't see it have much impact to the average guest. But it could make it easier for locals and fill a few more seats for Disney.

The places at Disney Springs that have been using Open Table are all non - Disney owned restaurants.

I had lunch at Kona yesterday and booked it on the fly while at Disney World yesterday about 2 hours before my scheduled reservation. When we arrived (about 20 minutes early), we were seated immediately and I was surprised how many empty tables there were particularly since we are going into the Christmas weekend. The tables did fill up a bit more before we left the restaurant.
