Default January or February 2018: which week?

I am planning a trip for a group of 8 or 9 people, looking at early 2018. The plan is to check in on a Sunday, stay 6 nights, and check out on Saturday. I want to avoid the marathon and MLK weeks due to the crowds. Would going 1/7-1/13, sandwiched between the marathon and MLK, be ok crowd-wise or should we consider later January or early February instead? We won't be doing any park time on Sunday or Saturday. Thanks!

There doesn't seem to be any truly uncrowded times at Disney World any more - just less crowded times. Since the Marathon in 2018 is on the 7th of January, I would expect that many of those folks will remain for much of that week to vacation. I might go later in January or very early February. Keep in mind that weather is quite variable at this time of the year and you could have pleasant weather and/or quite chilly weather.

Yeah, those Marathon folks come early too. Ran into some a few years back. But, was too bad, except the day of the race.

Keep in mind that Mardi Gras is Feb. 13 next year and lots of people from Louisiana descend upon disney. The Mardi Gras crowd will likely roll in around Saturday, Feb. 10 and stay the week. I also believe the following weekend is President's Day weekend. The last time we did MG with Pres day at the tail end it was super crowded most of the trip! If you choose Feb. I would go the very first week.

We went January 29, 2017 through February 4. It's our go to week whenever we go. This year the crowds were virtually nonexistent, 0 to 15 minute wait times in line. Weather was warm enough to swim. Absolutely perfect time to go!

We thought we'd be planning a trip in January. However, because of DVC availability, it looks more like February. Is the weekend of Mardi Gras really going to be bad? I work every other weekend and that will be my weekend off. We're hoping to spend the week prior to that there and then leave late that weekend. Just curious. TIA!

January 2018 will be our third trip checking in on the Sunday of Marathon weekend and we've not had a problem with crowds at all. If your looking for pool time you may want to push back a couple of weeks, both are trips were jeans and layers.

We did the last week of January in 2017. Crowds were moderate and managable and the weather was perfect!
