    Default parking question..

My understanding is that now you cannot self park at the Contemporary or any other resorts and walk to the monorail, and head to the parks without paying...is that correct? For the past 20 years ,I have always self parked and gone on the monorail for a joyride ,then got off wherever I desired..I believe that last April, I had to either valet at the resort or pay to park at the lot, which I refuse to do..any information would be appreciated..9 days until check-in!!!
"Ive been to WDW more times in real life than I have posts on here!!!!"Not sure, but has to be over 100 times since 1971..absolutely my favorite place on Earth....

There is a 3 hour limit on self parking at the resorts and it is to be used for dining/shopping at the resort. it's not meant to park all day and go to the parks. It used to be a lot more lax but parking has become a problem at the resorts for the guests staying there and they've started to crack down at busier times. If you're staying onsite you can park at the TTC or any park lot for free.

You can park for free at the resort in which you are staying. IF you are staying in a Disney resort, parking at any of the parks is also 'free' (you are paying for it in the cost of your room)

IF you are wanting to park at a resort you are not staying at, then use Disney transportation to get you around to the parks, or other resorts, that is against the policies of the resorts. Parking at the resorts is for guests of that resort or those dining or shopping at those resorts and has a time limitation (3 hours)

Too many people were taking advantage of parking at the resorts for no cost and using Disney transportation to get them around to the detriment of those actually paying to stay at those resorts. This is also why Disney Springs has no direct to/from park transportation anymore.

Disney Springs does have direct buses to/from the parks but ONLY after 4pm. This is a new thing.

There is service from the parks to DS after 4P but is one way only, no return to the parks.

    From Disney:
    Getting to Disney Springs

    • Bus service from Disney Resort hotels begins 45 minutes before opening until 1:00 AM.
    • Return service to Disney Resort hotels ends at 2:00 AM.
    • One-way bus service from the 4 Disney theme parks operates daily from 4:00 PM until 11:00 PM or 2 hours after theme parks close, whichever is earlier.

If you're at Disney now, you'll also see a tightening of the rules, since Easter is such a busy time, and parking is at a premium.

It certainly isn't a new policy at Disney that the resort lots are for guests staying at the resort, or for guests dining/shopping at the resort. It's been that way for years. Those lots are not for people to park free and have more convenient access to a park like MK. There's just not enough room for that at any of the resorts!

Yes it can get crowded. We have had trouble finding parking even while we stayed at POP. Some of that was the 2 space parkers, but still, it is overbuilt.
