Default Valentine's Day Presents: Do you give them?

I don't. I mean, my husband gives me flowers and sometimes candy every year. I give him a kiss in return, often a card as well. I don't give my kids gifts...I think that's strange. And I don't give my husband a gift. He has never expected one and doesn't consider it a gift exchange occasion.

Do you give gifts for valentine's day? If so, just to your romantic partner or to kids, grandkids, etc.?

It depends. Some years we exchange gifts (hubby and I), some years we don't. DH hates to shop for gifts so last year I bought a bracelet I had been wanting. Told DH not to worry about it that I had already bought my gift "from him", and his gift from me was that he didn't have to go shopping for me. Worked well for us!

I usually surprise my kids Valentine's day morning with their favorite candy bar and beef jerkey at their spot at the table.

On occasion my husband has gotten our girls flowers. I HATE getting flowers. I know that's uncommon, but there are no sentiments in flowers for me. That being said, we do occasionally exchange gifts. However, we rarely surprise one another. Usually, if we want something, we'll shop for it ourselves and then jokingly say, "Hey, look what you got me!"

Again, not every year, but usually we'll do a dinner and/or a movie, but almost NEVER on Valentine's itself. I prefer to avoid the crowds so we generally celebrate these type holidays a day or two before the official day. For example, for Mother's Day, we tend to do the meal the Friday or Saturday before.

In the past my husband would get my flowers, and I would give him a small gift. Usually a DVD or something, but recently we decided to stop that as we buy whatever throughout the year (same with birthdays, Christmas, Father's Day/Mother's Day-although we do buy something for our son to "give" to us-he's 3). We will go out to a nice dinner, either before or after the Valentine's Day rush. As a kid, my dad would always give my sister and me a small flower arrangement and my parents would give us a book or candy. We have decided to do the same with my son-minus the flowers. This year he is getting a card and a small Valentine's Day Lego thing that I found on Amazon for really cheap.

My husband and I used to exchange movies for Valentine's day. We stopped a few years ago. Part of the gift was that we'd watch the movie with undivided attention. Now I try to make a nicer than normal dinner (especially if it is a weekend.)

We don't get my son a Valentine's gift (even though my parents used to get us small chocolate things.) If I am feeling creative or crafty I will make him a heart-shaped sandwich for lunch.

This year we have a Cub Scout meeting on Valentine's day, and I will be spending the meeting teaching the boys how to test their heart rates. At least we will be talking about the heart that night

We used to but with 3 toddlers and the bills those come with we have opted not to...but I did state that I expect something small from the kids for me & my mom (chocolate covered strawberries/flowers/homemade or bought card)
