It's been a long time since we stayed at the campground but it was my first Disney "home"!
I recall having fun renting bicycles and just riding around and through all the different loops. We loved heading over to Pioneer Hall, grabbing drinks from Davy Crocketts', snagging a couple of rockers on the porch and then just chilling and people watching.
Hoop de Doo is always lots of fun!!!

That is going back a while. The train was only operational on our very first trip to Disney World and, alas, we did not take the time to ride it during the trip.
I also remember swimming in Bay Lake at the campground - sounds really strange to even think of it now!! I also got to enjoy River Country while it was in operation - seemed so much more convenient than getting to the current water parks.
How about taking the boat over to Discovery Island and walking the pathways there?

Great memories here. Some of you people must be pretty old!
I, too, remember the steam trains that circled the campground. They were fun to ride, but you could actually get somewhere quicker by walking.
We swam at River Country.
There were peacocks in the trees and walking through the campsites (don't wear red shorts!)
We always spent at least one evening at the campfire and movie, burning marshmallows to a crisp and getting hugs from Chip & Dale (yes, adults too).
We spent hours rockin' in the rocking chairs on the porch.
Loved the decorated campsites with Disney themes. Especially good at Halloween and Christmas.

I forgot about the peacocks until you mentioned them!!
We also liked to walk over to the horse barn to see the animals there.
Taking a carriage at Fort Wilderness is fun as well!

Ah, yes. I seem to recall some guy wearing red shorts being chased around up near Pioneer Hall, the nasty critters pecking at his legs while he tried to be very Disney-like by resisting the urge to kick the.....stuff......out of them !
Peacocks are no longer found at Fort Wilderness. I understand that Disney evicted them. I wonder if WDW suggested that they relocate to Universal ??
