How to Explain Talking vs non-talking Characters to a Curious Child?
I've been tutoring a young girl and we got to talking about Disney world. She asked me why the Characters talk during performances and why Mickey talks when you meet him, but none of the other characters do. I can't even remember what I said, but I was able to move on and change the subject. I hadn't really thought about this dilemma before, since I only have one child who is still very young. The same little girl also asked me if Santa checks in with me about her behavior during tutoring, and that one was easy, of course he does

My son is 3, so I haven't had that question. However, I've heard of some people just saying it's magic. That Disney magic is very real and special.

I've always liked the explanation along the lines of "they are saving their voice for the big shows/films".
It's likely relatable to something they have already heard if a parent/adult has ever lost their voice or needed to "save their voice" for a big presentation/speech.
