    Default MDE Mobile App Issue

Wasn't sure where to post this, but here it goes. I have an Android phone running the My Disney Experience App, which is working fine incidentally, but now when I open the app, for a couple seconds, a screen opens and says something to the effect of "the app needs to be updated and will quit working on 9/29." The screen only stays open a couple seconds so I can't read it entirely. When I go to the Play Store to see about reloading the app, it says that "Your device isn't compatible with this version".

Has anyone else seen this or had any similar experience? We are only a couple weeks away from a 2-week stay and we really like using the app during our visits. Any suggestions? Thanks for any help

Unfortunately since I have an iPhone I'm not much of a help but I did find this on the GooglPlay website. The update was issued Sept 22 for Android 5.0 and up. In the small print I found this which may offer some help

Reaching way back in the back of my brain for this, so I'm not 100% sure. I read somewhere that it may not be compatible with certain Galaxy Note phones.

Disney updated the app this past week. The new version requires Android 5.0.0 or later. Many phones and tablets are still using 4.2.2. That is what the message is trying to tell you, although it's very poorly worded, and like you said, doesn't stay around long enough to actually read it fully.

Unfortunately, many phones and tablets don't have the ability to "officially" be updated to Android 5 (or 6). I have a tablet that's on that list. I could root it and install 5 or 6, but I'd run the risk of losing everything in the process. For me, I just won't be using the app on my tablet anymore. Still have it on my phone, so I'm ok there. And I can still access MDE via the browser on my tablet. Not as simple as the app, but it works.

Once a phone/tablet goes out of support, one of the best places to turn is xda-developers dot com. I've got an old LG Optimus G phone I can put Marshmallow on (and looks like they are working on Nougat too. I usually go this route as soon as I get the phone/tablet , bloat removal and a more secure (updated) OS are the driving forces.

Might be a bit much for most, but it allows me to hand down my old phones to the little ones and they can still load new apps from the app store, etc. I noticed that my iPhone 4 is pretty much a paper weight these days though, no updates and most apps require a newer OS than I can get on it.
