Default Early Morning Magic - another upsell

This was mentioned in the Disney After Dark thread, but deserves its own.

Check out google for details, but for another ridiculous amount of money (something like $70pp) you get into Fantasyland from 7:45 - 10 for access to Pan, Pooh, Mine Train, and continental breakfast at Pinocchios.

I wouldn't do this and bless those who want to - my biggest concern is that if this is the day you rope drop MK you are now hitting Fantasyland with a bunch of people already filling the queues.

What isn't for sale yet? Actually, I don't want to ask because I shudder to think.

Ha. We could go back to the days when you had to stick a quarter in the slot to open the stall! Well, with modern technology I suppose you'd just tap your magic band....

You took my line ... I was gonna say the TP is free so far !! I'm sure the free ice water will have a surcharge for the ice soon. Maybe we will have to rent the seats on the rides and at the shows ,,,, it's getting old fast !!

Again, like I have said elsewhere, so what? So what if they charge for this event or, for that matter, the evening event? As of right now, NOTHING is being taken away from the guest. All they did is add a hard ticketed event to their scheduled day. If you want to pay for it, do so. If the Cost/Benefit Analysis shows to you not to be worth it, then don't. It's rather easy. If somebody wants to pay to get in early or stay late, that's fine.

We have seen you post this a few times. My response would be, be careful throwing around the "so what, if you don't like it don't go." At some point, as a few others have discovered in the past couple of weeks, at some point they will make a change that negatively impacts you and your vacation style. It may be an increase in pricing, something taken away or reduced or maybe even changes in DVC if you are a member. Right now, they are systematically going through everything and squeezing every single penny out of guests that they possibly can and it looks like they will continue to do so until they crash.

For a hypothetical example, what if they decided to make two days a week exclusive and Wednesday and Saturday were special hard ticket days for the entire day. They guaranteed that on those two days only so many people would be allowed in and your wait time would be 15 minutes or less or something to that effect. What if they set the ticket prices for those days at $500 each. I might decide to try it, love it and go visit on those days and do the other parks on the days in between. I might love every minute of it and end up spending $5000 or $6000 on tickets alone while at the same time, you bought a week long package but were blocked out of the parks on those two days unless you ponied up for the hard tickets. Soak that in for a minute because it is something they just may consider doing.

Yes, they may. But that isn't the discussion. What IS the discussion is the fee they are charging for this event. You can either pay it or not. They aren't stealing anything. You don't have to do it, vacation like you normally do and that's that. If somebody else, wants to spend the extra money to get in the park at 7 PM and be there until 2 AM, so be it. If they do start to whittle away at what they are offering and start to charge for everything, that is a different story, but NOWHERE in what they have proposed is ANYTHING been taken away from ANYBODY. Most of this seems to be a more a factor of "no fair!". Well, life isn't fair. You can't afford the hard ticket event or you just don't want to pay for this hard ticket event, then don't. Again, nothing is being taken away. You can still go to the park, get your FPs, and enjoy the day the best you can. And they are only squeezing money from you if you choose to pay it. Again, they aren't forcing anybody to pay for anything. You can still pay for your vacation and do it like you always do and never pay the extra charge for any hard ticket items.

Here is where you are incorrect. They are in fact taking something away from guests and putting something in place with a new fee. They are in fact impacting the way many of us visit the parks and the value we get out of them. Here is how: They are closing the park at 7:00PM for a special hard ticket whereas, normally they would be open until at least 10:00PM and if occupancy levels were high, they would also normally extend the park hours until 11 or 12. Now those park hours are gone unless you want to buy an additional ticket.

Before you point out that this is about an early morning special ticket, it is still the same thing. Earlier in the morning, later in the evening, it doesn't matter. Hours during the day are hours during the day that you could potentially be in the park and now they want to charge you for it on top of entrance tickets you already have to buy. That is a money grab.

So my point is, this not only affects my vacation but it also affects yours but you haven't realized it yet. Wait until you go and you find out parks are closing at 7 for a hard ticket and you just spent all day in a busy park with 90 minute wait times and then get back to us on your satisfaction level.

Do folks get this upset when other businesses (you know ... those places that are run intending to make money) raise their prices and change their offerings?

Disney is not HIDING these changes. They are right up-front about it.

So... you "pay to play" or you don't. If you don't like it.... don't go. Seems simple.

I think it's really all about price point. If Disney were charging only $20.00 for this early morning access, I bet nobody would be complaining about it. I'm guessing Disney has done some market research to see what the market will pay for it. It's too much for me to consider it to be a good value. I think it's too high, but I guess we'll see how many of these admissions they'll sell.

They already priced us out of the Halloween Party which we used to attend every time we could, but when the price kept going up and up (when it crossed the $200.00 barrier for the four of us), we just chose not to attend it anymore, and it offered much more than just a breakfast with extra time in the park.

We would not likely do either the morning up-sell or the evening hard ticket event. I don't think we would find it worth the money, although I don't have an issue with what they're charging.

However, it is a valid point that if a park closes early for a hard ticket event, it does impact your plans if you typically stay late in the parks. You're getting a shorter day for your ticket price.

Now, I have to qualify this by saying that we do 10 day stays and it's pretty easy for us to choose another park that's open later for any particular day. We also stay on property, so we can take advantage of any EMH that are available.

But, on a shorter stay for someone staying off property, this could have a significant impact. Especially if the events are frequent. I don't think it's reasonable to just say "Get over it" or accuse someone of having a fairness tantrum. If a change significantly impacts their vacation style, then they have the right to evaluate whether it diminishes the value for them.

Depends on what it is, but you bet they do. Check out what people think of DirecTV, Dish, Comcast, etc, when the inevitable price increases (often including the migration of channels from lower packages or creation of newer add-on packages, equipment requirements, etc) and service changes come. Pretty much anytime the perceived value of anything declines, people are going to be upset about it. It certainly doesn't bother me whether people are upset with it or not. I don't agree with the claims that Disney is still a great value, mostly because I don't see the comparisons provided to be relevant, but I always read them to see if I can be convinced. I would not tell them they are not allowed to try, but some people here get really upset that anybody might voice a negative view of Disney at all (for some reason).

Ultimately, this is about the perceived value of the ticket. While there must be many out there who think Disney could charge 200x more and still be a value, there are quite obviously people who do not agree. If you consider the current prices to be an acceptable value, you have to consider that anytime they reduce the hours that will reduce the value of your ticket (even if you still find that reduced value to be good for you). If you feel that the on-property premium (seems there most definitely is a premium paid to be on-property compared to similar accomodations off-site) is worth it because of EMH, then any tinkering they do to that (such as letting outside people buy their way into it) reduces the value of it. Whether or not that diminished value still is worth the time and money for you as an individual is up to you, but there is no question that the value is diminished.

Yet, the parks remain as crowded as ever.
I've said this before, people are voting with their wallets, and Disney is winning the election.

Those of us who disagree aren't having much effect on their bottom line.

But they did take away from the guest. The days these events are going on resort and general public can not go in early. Less EMH for resort guests. Possibly less hours for the general guest. Hard ticket night events means less EMEH and earlier closing times for the regular guest. It takes away from the amount of time my $125 and up admission is good for. Regular admission hours are shrinking and prices have gone up. It does affect the guest.

Coming from the guy that has two threads lately complaining about cuts/changes that affected DVC. I had took the high road and wasn't going to go there and even stayed out of your threads but since you like to follow up my posts with such comments......there you go.

As for the question about people getting this upset when other businesses change offerings or raise prices, the answer is a resounding yes. Pretty much for everything. Us Corvette guys have been pretty bent out of shape with Chevrolet the past few years. They sold out and started offering options on our Z06's that had never, NEVER been on a Z06 before.....Targa tops, convertible, automatic, etc. The Z06 has always been and should be only a race ready, light weight, high horsepower, go fast machine....but no, now they are catering to the guys that can't even check the oil just so they can say they have a Z06......even though they have no idea what it is or represents.
